It had been a week since the successful operation on Glid V. Once he had finished the required debriefings, he had been called into Vice Admiral Bellinger’s office.

“Commander. Have a seat.” the attractive Intelligence officer said politely when Jason came through the doors. Taking a seat as directed, Reilly looked at her over steepled fingers and said “Morning, Kate. How’s everything?” The Admiral looked at him sternly and said “Right now, it’s Admiral Bellinger. Got it, Commander?”, an undertone of rebuke in her voice. Reilly waved off the unspoken chastisement and said “Sure, sure. So… Admiral… what’s shaking?” and flashed his smile. Shaking her head, she said “I really don’t like you.” and then chuckled, at which Reilly did as well. “Oh, I know. You freakin’ love me, Admiral.” and the two laughed for a moment.

After the laughs faded, the Admiral looked at Reilly and said “Unfortunately, Jason… I’m afraid I didn’t call you here for joviality. You… you have orders.” and the statement hung in the air like a bad odor. Reilly looked at her, a small glimpse of a confused look on his face. “Orders? What? Why? I’m killing it here! Nine successful ops in eleven months. Hell, I even bagged that gun runner you didn’t even have a file on! Why would I get orders? And to where?” The Admiral didn’t say anything, just slid a PaDD across the desk. Reilly leaned forward and grabbed, keyed up the last entry. His eyes moved quickly over the words on the screen and then he looked at the Admiral. “USS Wolverine? Ship duty? Really? What the hell am I supposed to there?!” Admiral Bellinger said “Keep reading.” and Reilly took a breath and kept going. Getting to the meat of the document, his actually looked a little surprised. “Exec? Really?” and the Admiral said “Really. Honestly, you didn’t think you had been pulled out of the Diplomatic Corps and back to Intel because we missed you, did you?” and she smiled. “Still stunned a bit, Reilly said “Well… I just… I just figured you needed -” and Bellinger cut him off. “You were brought back to make sure you could still handle yourself. And the Wolverine had been… well… busy… for a bit. But she is ready for you now, and you are ready for her. You’ll be serving under Captain Remy Boudreaux. I know him. Good man, very Cajun. Bit unorthodox. But so are you, so it should be a good fit.”

Reilly looked at the PaDD and then at Bellinger. “Well… guess I gotta go pack.” and he stood up. The Admiral stood as well and held out her hand. “Good luck, Jason.” Reilly smiled as he shook the offered hand and said “Never needed it before.” and turned and walked out of the office, PaDD in hand.

It was a week later that the shuttle carrying the newly assigned Executive Officer arrived at Risa. Docking with the ship, Reilly stepped out of the shuttle carrying a black bag slung over one shoulder and a brown soft sided bag in his left hand. Looking around, he grinned slightly and looked at the Ensign who had flown him here. “Make sure my gear gets taken to my quarters, will you Dan?” and the Ensign nodded. “Sure thing, Commander.” Reilly nodded and then said “Once that’s done, take a few days. Risa is pretty spectacular.” The Ensign smiled and said “A;ready put in for a week’s leave.” and then he ducked back inside. Reilly turned and walked over to the Security Ensign on duty. “Heya, Ensign. Commander Reilly comma Jason. New XO.” and the young Vulcan snapped to attention. “Sir. Welcome to the Wolverine. I will make sure your belongings are taken to your quarters, Sir.” and Reilly nodded. He had memorized the deck plans on the trip to Risa, and as such was fairly confident he could find his way. Walking out of the docking bay and to the turbolift, he said =/\= Deck six. =/\= and the lift went into motion. A scant few moments later, the lift stopped and the doors opened. Reilly looked around, git his bearings, and made his way to the XO’s quarters.

Reilly, Incoming XO

Bryson spotted the new XO walking towards the quarters as he exited the room with the last of his belongings. “Commander Reilly, I’m Commander Bryson Erin.” He said, extending his hand for a shake.

“I believe the Captain is in his Ready Room awaiting your arrival.” Bryson added.

Reilly dropped his bag to the floor and took the offered hand in a firm but comfortable grip. “A pleasure, Commander.” and he looked at the door and then back at Erin. “Hope I’m not treading on anyone’s toes or kicking someone out into the cold?” he asked with a small grin.

Reilly, XO

Bryson shook his head and laughed. “The choice was mine, and I feel good about it too.” Commander Erin swung the bag around to his shoulder and retrieved a PaDD from his pocket. “While I can’t divulge too much about our past mission, I’m sure you’ll find some of this non classified info useful.” With that said, Bryson gave a slight nod and headed to the turbolift, and then to his quarters.

Reilly watched the man leave and looked at the door and frowned. he then tapped his comm badge =/\= Computer. Send a crew to clean the XO’s quarters immediately. Any personal effects found are to be sent to Commander Bryson’s quarters. =/\= A chirp was all that indicated the order had been received. Reilly picked up his bag and made his way down the hall.
