“Sonic shower hmm? I’ll have to try that. But does it really shut your mind off? K’Mar taught me a little bit of meditation on Black Rock and it works, for the most part. But when it doesn’t, I end up cooking or drinking. Anything but sleeping.” she explained thinking back to that crazy day on Black Rock.

Ayla was a bit embarrassed, but she nodded. “I find the pulses soothing, and often I really am tired, but I would have nightmares that would wake me up. And more than once I found myself nodded off while sitting on the floor in the shower. Remy was really sweet about it when it happened, but I’ll be glad to have that little quirk out of the way. I can meditate, and I do regularly as an empath, but the PTSD would intervene at the most inopportune times.”

“You’re welcome to meditate with me at times, if you’d like,” Ayla offered.

Alita was a little uncomfortable with the fact that blocks could be put up and memories could just be submerged. Perhaps that was a very Human way of looking at things.

“I might do that or, just get up and cook a three course meal and realize I have no-one to share it with.”

As Alita heard herself speaking, she thought she may sound more depressed than she actually was.

“Oh it’s really not all that bad. Maybe I should convince Remy to let me take over the galley a few days a week.” she said with a genuine laugh.

Sharise grinned. “Resources are so spare on this ship, but I’m sure it would be welcome. What do you like to cook?” she asked as she moved her drying curls off her face. She was having a lovely time and was glad she and Alita had connected. Aside from their connection through Remy, they seemed to be on the same wavelength and that was such a nice feeling. “Just be sure to invite me. I do love food,” she added with a chuckle.

Alita grinned. It was nice to have someone that she could just talk with without being too concerned about saying the wrong thing.

“Oh I like to cook just about anything I can get a recipe for or anything I think might sound good. I enjoy cooking things I know the crew likes in case I forget a birthday or someone needs comforting. But, personally, I am obsessed with finding the perfect peach pie recipe. Bre never wrote her’s down and it was one of the things that comforted her as she got older I guess. I never did understand what she was sick from and I’m certainly not going to go asking her half Vulcan son.”

“Why not? Would he not be willing to discuss what happened?” Ayla asked. She didn’t know the whole background there, so it was hard to say what the dynamics of the situation were.

Alita paused and licked the last of the orange glaze off of her fingers, smiled, and laughed a bit.

“I remember the first time I met K’Mar. I was just the acting COS at the time, my quarters were a disaster, and in he strolls for an intake interview, sits down as polite as you please, and tries everything I put in front of him.”

Ayla chuckled. It seemed to fit what she knew of K’Mar.

Alita grew quiet lost in thought for a few seconds.

“If I ever find that damned recipe, he’ll probably be the first to know.”

“I don’t doubt it. And you’re welcome to test things out of me, so long as it’s suitable for a vegetarian. BUt I certainly am happy to eat sweets,” she said with a wink. She had enjoyed the scones Alita had brought.

Alita was glad to know the eating preferences of at least one of her friends. Guessing wrong had gotten her in trouble at the academy once or twice.

“Vegetarian… Hmmm… I’ll keep that in mind. Don’t get me wrong about Sovol. I know him to be a very honorable man but I just think some of this family stuff could be a little taxing. I try not to get too crazy with it all but it’s like discovering a prat of your life you never knew existed. Maybe if we get the chance to speak in person someday, subspace can be so impersonal you know?” she said.
