Remy made his way to his desk and dropped into the chair. Reaching into the bottom drawer, he pulled out the bottle of bourbon and removed the cork. He reached for a glass, but hesitated. This was going to take morre than the glass, he decided.

Leaning back, he put the bottle to his mouth and took a long draught. The liquor burned on its’ way down his throat, but it was good burn. The kind to take the edge off. . .

He replaced the cork, set the bottle on the desk, leaned back and closed his eyes. . .

The door rang.

It was Commander Wells, as she answered through the door.

“Entrer>’

She entered after she was allowed through.

“Captain, I apologize for any difficulty regarding the last mission. My mission orders have changed and I am no longer assigned to your vessel. Just one word of caution… try not to get involved with Admiral Irene Frederic.”

“As far as I am concerned, Commander, de mis-SHON was a success. We got what we went fo’. De II Drive worked, albeit wit’ some bugs, but dat is why it is experimental, no? As for de admiral, I’ll take you’ warning under advisement.”

“It was a pleasure, ‘Elena, au revoir.”

After Wells had left, the Bridge called. =/\= Bridge to the Captain. A call for you from an Admiral Otto of Starfleet Engineering. =/\=

“With a sigh, Remy placed the bottle back in the drawer. =^=Patch it trough.”

When the screen lit up with the visage of the Admiral, Remy smiled. “Adm. Otto, what can I do fo’ you?”

“Ah yes, due apologizes for the damage to your ship, Captain. I am assigning Lieutenant Ford Prefect, the inventor of the drive, to your ship. He is, of course, not to activate the drive without your expressed permission and will serve under whoever is your Chief Engineer is. Of course, he’ll be studying how to safely extract the drive during his spare time, and performing regular Engineering tasks as a regular Engineer part of your ship. Bare mind, he’s unusual, though…”

OOC: I would think carefully Captain. Pairing the guy who made the drive and is unusual with Mikel Petrov. Gasoline on a fire. LOL!

IC:Jus’ what I need on dis ship, Admiral. As if I don’ ‘ave enough unusual characters aboard already. . . .” Again, Remy released a sigh.

“Unusual in what way, sir?”

“He’s what you’d call an unstable genius. Weird, eccentric, and carries a blasted towel everywhere. He’s somehow managed to get his towel as an exception to regular Starfleet regulations. But, he did invent the blasted drive after all… only a person with that kind of … unique mind could come up with such a different way to travel space.”

“I s’pose ‘e should fit right in, den. I canno’ guarantee ‘e won’ be trown out an airlock. Mr. Petrov is very. . . . particular who is runnine ‘round ‘is engine room.”

Remy shook his head, just imagining how long it will take before Petrov threatens to kill the man.

“Sir, will Lt. Prefect be joinine us on de nect mis-SHON, or will we ‘ave down time while he tries to remove de II drive?”

“He will be permanently assigned to your ship until the drive is removed. As for your R&R, Captain, I have not seen any new mission orders for your ship yet. I suspect it would be after all your experimental equipment is removed and all the data is collected however.”

IC: “‘opefully, it won’ take too long to remove. Even if it did come in ‘andy at times, per my report, I would prefer not to ‘ave it onboard. If someone should discover its’ abilities to warp reality, an’ de fact it is on my ship, de Wolverine could become a target an’ get some unwarranted attrac-SHON.”

“Ah, yes, that weird side effect. Mr. Prefect informed me that is part of the equation of the Improbably Theory of Travel. He says that normalcy is always restored, otherwise as strange as this sounds, you end up back from your original point that you left,” said Admiral Otto, “Also, there is no manual control for the drive, it must be controlled by EDDIE, the AI, in order to perform the complex and absurd mathematical calculations required. So the only way for the drive to activate is if someone manages to convince EDDIE to start the drive. Fortunately, our best experts here have worked with Starfleet Security to install the highest levels of encryption and security features to EDDIE. That AI has a bit of odd personality quirk, but apparently it is also a result of the mathematical constructs required to calculate for the drive’s operation.
Behaviorally, EDDIE would like nothing more to please anyone and everyone… but Mr. Prefect managed to code that EDDIE is the most happiest to follow the chain of command, and follow the extensive security authorizations required before activating and/or even responding to any requests. I don’t know how exactly he managed it, but EDDIE will behave based on the last authorized orders. Commander Wells informed via a report that the control was past to you, your first officer, your Chief Engineer and Mr. Prefect… and that activation requires at least three individuals to agree.”
