Finishing up with the file she was on, she closed it out and turned off her terminal. Ayla moved over to join him and simply sat in the other chair and gazed at him. “So… where are we at? Any more moments?” she asked with concern, though her tone was still a bit light.

Lt. Sharise, CNS

“Moments?” He asked, “Are you referring to the incident in the mess hall?” He asked calmly.

“Naturally,” Ayla replied. “Tell me where you’re at right now.” He was an enigma, but not an impossible one to figure out. Still, there was something there that she fel compelled to explore. It wasn’t just because she was curious but because it felt like a piece of the puzzle she was missing.

He shrugged. “I don’t know. I will admit, I am feeling kind of lost. When I was in prison I accepted what I had done and I knew that I would spend my life there. But when I was freed I was happy at first, but now, without my wife or my career, I feel like I am completly starting over, except that I am no longer 18 and care free.” He said honestly, while trying to hide those emotions he described.

Ayla nodded. “Well, for all intents and purposes, you are. But you have your experiences. It’s not a brand new start like you once had, but it’s a start. Sometimes, that’s all you need.” She considered him for a moment. “When you feel that restriction, like you can’t really start again, what emotion comes up?”
