The aft starboard door to the bridge swished open allowing FSA agent Mado onto the bridge. Not far behind him was security ensign McGarvey. Glancing around for a moment he noticed that Remy was absent, perhaps within his ready room. He also took notice of Commander Wells. Making his mark, he called out to the XO. They hadn’t formally met, but he reviewed enough of the senior officer profiles to know the XO’s name, “Excuse my interruption Cmdr. Erin. I have an urgent matter to discuss with Cmdr. Wells.” Mado knew that he hadn’t asked for permission last time he entered the bridge, but unlike the Captain, he still had no insight into the XO’s demeanor. Playing dumb for a moment, he continued, “I believe she is on the bridge, permission to enter and if possible have a word with the Cmdr.?”

The white haired man remained by the doorway as he awaited a response.

LT. Mado (FSA)

“By all means, Lieutenant.” The Commander said, paying little attention to the FSA. “Now that medical has had a chance to check on everyone, lets begin a course into the underspace.” He called out to the Helm Officer.

“Let’s move to the Conference Room, Lieutenant,” replied Commander Wells, as she got up.

Commander Wells and Lt. Mado made for the Conference Room. “I felt that I did not want to disturb the Bridge’s operation with our conversation,” remarked Wells, “You have something you wish to talk to me about, Lieutenant? I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name.”

The agent responded dryly, “I am Lieutenant Andreas Mado. I am with the FSA. I have been dispatched to this vessel to safeguard the laws and principles of the Federation government.” Mado paused to take in the commander’s reaction.

After a moment he continued, “EDDIE has informed me that you may be behind the recent use of an experimental drive aboard this ship?”

Lt. Mado (FSA)

“Yes. It is an experimental engine designed by Starfleet Engineering that was brought on-board for this mission in the event that all other methods of propulsion systems brought on this vessel failed. We were to travel to the Delta Quadrant and have a means to return safely back to Alpha Quadrant. Among the other systems brought on board was a holographic external imaging system, an experimental Transwarp drive and an experimental Slipstream drive.”

The agent listened intently. “So the mission to investigate the underspace meant quite literally to enter the underspace. May I ask if these items were provided under the authority of Admiral Janeway? Also, would it be possible to obtain information on safety and efficacy tests relating to the equipment?”

LT. Mado (FSA)

“Not the entire authority of Admiral Janeway, Lieutenant, but she managed to convince several members of the Admiralty that threat by the Vaadwaur was real and could not ignore the potential for an invasion or direct attack on Federation worlds. As for the the safety and efficacy tests, I can provide all of the details for the various drives except the highly experimental drive we just used. It’s considered top secret, and I am not sure if you have the proper clearance,” said Wells.

“I’m certain I don’t. Please send whatever information you are permitted to share. I’ll need it for my report.” The agent moved towards the door, but turned back before exiting, “Was anyone outside of Starfleet consulted on this matter… anyone within the Federation Government?”

“Sufficient to say, the experimental drive is a new form of travel that can be used as a means to return to the Alpha Quadrant if all other avenues of experimental drives are unavailable. As for whether anyone was consulted about the Vaadwaur threat, the President and the members of the Federation Security Council were informed as well as the Department of Temporal Investigations,” said Wells, “Was that all, Lieutenant? I believe the ship is about to enter the Underspace, and I do not think I should linger off the Bridge too long for the safety of the ship and its crew.”

Mado’s eye twitched. The entire Federation Government was involved in this fiasco. Resigning himself for the moment, he gestured towards the door, “Of course Commander. We all have our jobs to do… mine just happens to be at the inconvenience of yours.” Making way for the commander to pass, he made one final comment, “Please don’t forget about those test reports.”

LT. Mado (FSA)

“You should be able to access the test reports on all the other drives except the highly classified one, Lieutenant, but be advised that both Federation Security and Starfleet Security do not wish to make public knowledge how advanced we are on Transwarp technology or Slipstream technology. You should also be able to view our usage of both the transwarp coils and slipstream drives as we made our way to the Delta Quadrant using those methods of travel,” said Wells.
