Inside Remy’s quarters, the chime sounded.

It was late, 2336, and she didn’t know if he was sleeping or not, but this couldn’t wait. Ayla felt dazed and undoubtedly when the door opened, her expression would be the same. She had replayed the message over and over in her mind as she walked through the corridor. It had been a punch to the gut and it took all of her training to calm herself so that she could go do the one thing she was loathe too.

This was not going to go over well, unavoidable circumstances or not.

Remy had been sitting on the couch in his quarters. Wearing a t-shirt and shorts, he was going over reports that were overdue for his signature, hence the reason he was still awake at this hour.

Hearing the chime, he moved to the door, hoping it was Ayla coming for a midnight rendevouz. The door slid open and a grin broke out when he saw her standing there. He reached out and took Ayla’s hand, pulling her into his quarters.

“I am ‘appy to see you ‘ave changed you’ mind an’ decided to come for a sleepover.”

As he leaned in to kiss her, he stopped short as he sensed his lover’s apprehension and concern. “Cher? Is ever’tine alright?”
