Auzria could not help but be thinking about her daughter, the young Trill woman who had just recently been assigned to the Challenger. A frown creased her lips, as she thought about the event that had estranged them, despite that being the last thing she had wanted.

Auzria knew she had been in the wrong, and should have consoled her daughter and accepted it, rather than having reacted in such a horrendous way. Now, over nine years since the incident, she still felt like it was yesterday, and that it could have never been mended. You are going to kill yourself if you keep letting your mind wander, Auzria. She hissed to herself, closing her eyes tightly as she brought up her vitiligo hands to rub them.

Upon opening them, the aging Trill knew she needed to find something better to do with her free time. Getting to her feet, she slipped her uniform back on, making sure everything was on correctly, before she pulled her curly hair back into a bun. Brushing off her shoulders, she made her way out of her quarters and headed towards the labs.

She was a scientist, she always had been. Perhaps it was time she got back into the groove of things. Upon arriving to the labs, she picked up one of the PaDDs, taking a seat at one of the desks, to go over some information. Maybe, if she was lucky, she could think up an experiment to conduct; make herself useful, rather than wallowing on things that were long within the past.

Crossing her legs, at the ankles, she rested the PaDD in front of her, partially listening to the world around her, in case a comm came or the doors slipped open. Tapping her fingers silently against the inner part of her thigh, she read over several different recently published articles, concerning various subjects of physical science.

Ahearn entered the labs not expecting to see anyone. He had a few things he wanted to attend to, but stopped short as he saw Voq sitting at one of the stations. “Oh. Hello, Ensign. I didn’t expect to see you in here. What brings you in?” he asked, he is Irish accent filling the lab.

“Hello, sir.” Auzria rose her head from her station, shifting her gaze to glance upon the CSO. “Simply looking through different science articles, seeing what is new and perhaps more interesting than the mundane: ‘We solved the issue with exhibit a!’” Voq shook her head, “What about you, Lieutenant?”

Ahearn motioned for her to be seated, and took a seat himself. “Just tidying up a few reports that are about to be late, nothing major.” and he cast a glance at the PaDD. “Find anything interesting?” he asked curiously.

“Do you need any help?” Voq asked, sitting back down, while keeping her attention focused on Ahearn. “Mm, not entirely. There have been a few more studies done on temporal sciences, such as chronitons and rips in the fabric of space; but much like you, nothing major.” Voq shook her head.

Ahearn thought for a moment and then said “What say we run an experiment? I’ve been itching to try and replicate the results of paper I read recently. Hang on a sec.” and he went into his office. Coming back with a PaDD, he scrolled through some files and then said “Ah. Here we go.” and handed the PaDD over.

“An experiment?” Her gaze seemed to grow alight at the idea of conducting an experiement, specifically regarding recent studies or theories that could be tested, or even proved. Excitedly, she thanked him and read over the PaDD, quickly.

The file on display was summary paper from a professor at the Vulcan Science Academy. In it, he postulated the possibility that matter being transported goes through another heretofore undiscovered dimension. “I was thinking… other dimensions and timelines have a specific chroniton reading. If we were to place an object into the transporter with a specific chroniton signature we could see how, if at all, the chroniton were modified or manipulated. What do you think?”

“You and the Professor might be right. The chrontion levels could be different upon the transportation itself or perhaps afterwards. Seeing as we are dealing with a subatomic particle, it might be possible that the chroniton itself could change in charge or anothe property of the particle.” She paused, contemplating this a bit. “It would probably be best to use a stable piece of matter. Something that will allow chronitons to actively pass through it, clearly, so tests would be clearer.. perhaps a metallic object would be best suited for the experiement?” Voq suggested, glancing at the Chief to see what his two cents on the paper were.

“Metal or crystalline mineral, yes. Each substance’s atomic framework is very easily replicated and changes to the structure are easy to detect. That way we can address any structural changes with regard to chroniton variances… will help keep the results from being seen as subjected to another force outside of the hypothesis.”

Ahearn, CSO

“Hmm.” Voq nodded, “Which would you prefer to use? Both would allow for the same results, based on structure. However, Metal is merely a much less complex crystalline structure.” She got back to her feet, as to retrieve the the material that the CSO would prefer to make use of.
