It had only been a few hours since Mado arrived. Already he had spoken with the Captain, quartermaster, and the ship’s doctor. Now he found himself outside of the counselor’s office. It was an area he was less familiar with. In his time with the Federation Security Agency, medical and psychological evaluations were one in the same.

Before chiming he took one more quick look at the counselor’s public file. The counselor was a Napean, an empath. He raised an eyebrow. As an intelligence officer, empaths made him slightly uneasy. He scrolled a bit quicker to have a look at her service history. As his eyes scanned the page, something piqued his interest, possibly even more so than the counselor being an empath. Apparently, she had served Battle of Sector 001.

While battle veterans would be in no short supply during this era, the Battle of Sector 001 was particularly interesting. It planted a seed of uncertainty into everything that the Federation had built. Sure the Federation came out victorious, but things were never quite the same. Catching himself, Mado decided he had read enough. Clearing his PaDD, he slid the device back into his satchel and chimed on the counselor’s door.

As he did, he attempted to clear his mind.

“Enter,” came a melodic and unhurried voice.

Inside the tiny office- if one could call it an office since it was smaller than some of the ships small supply rooms-, Ayla sat near the door in one of two chairs with a padd in one hand and a mug of something citrusy in the other held against her chest.

At least with the smaller space, there was little room for clutter, so a desk on one side with her chair and a set of chairs on the opposite side of the room were all the furniture to be found. There was only a few feet between them, but she had managed to make the place not entirely utilitarian by the addition of a mirror ball. It sat in a wrought iron stand beside the desk and in the corner, and on the wall between the two chairs was a slightly abstract tapestry depicting a sunrise/sunset scene over water.

She gazed at Mado with hazel eyes and smiled. “Come on in Lieutenant. Have a seat, and tell me who you are and what I can do for you.”

Lt. Sharise, CNS

Mado returned to the smile as he awkwardly made his way into a seat. The room was a bit cramped. In Mado’s mind, it would be a perfect spot for an interrogation. Glancing at the tapestry, he responded, “Thank you for your hospitality.”

The empath regarded him simply and took a sip from her drink before setting aside. “I’d offer you something to drink, but alas, I brought it with me from the mess hall. The one downside to such a small ship is the lack of personal replicators. If the scent bothers you, just let me know.”

He looked back at the counselor, “I am Andreas Mado. I have just been assigned to this ship as an attache’ of the Federation government. I just met with the Captain and he thought it would be best to get me evaluated… following my travel here.”

Mado remained smiling, but as he finished speaking, his eyes started to return a blank stare. Perhaps the blank expression was a force of habit from his line of work… or perhaps the man had a screw loose.

Setting her padd to the side as well, Sharise gave him her undivided attention, her keen hazel eyes taking in details that others might consider inconsequential. “When you attaché, what does that mean? What will your role be here on the ship?”

Sharise, CNS

Mado explained in earnest, “It simply means I am here to observe the workings of the ship and crew. ” Fudging his interaction with the captain he continued, “The captain assures me that everything is in order, so I assume it will be a straightforward assignment.”

Looking over at the tapestry for another moment, he posed a question of his own, “How long have you served on the ship Counselor?”
