<snip>“At least dere, we ‘ave sometine in common. Investiga-SHON and interroga-SHON, dat is. Most of my career was spent in Intel..”
He was silent for a few moments more, now contemplating if having Mado on board was going to be more hassle than its worth. “Very well, Lt., It appears we are stuck wit’ each odder for de time beine. Let us try to make de best of it. Your DH is Lt. Claire. She is my Chief of Security an’ you will report directly to ‘er, no?”
“We were no’ expectine you, so check in wit’ de quartermaster to assign a cabin for you, check in wit’ medical, an’ Counselor Sharise. After dat, you should be good to go for duty.”
“One more tine, Lt. I do expect loyalty from my crew. I am ‘opine dat will no’ cause a conflict wit’ you’ loyalty to Federa-SHON security?”
Boudreaux (CO)
The agent gave nod, “Understood Captain… I don’t see any reason why there would be.” The slender man rose from his chair clutching his satchel. “It seems I have quite a few individuals to check in with.” As he headed towards the door he considered thanking the Captain for his hospitality. Pausing for a moment he almost did so, but held back, ‘better not ruffle too many feathers…yet.’ With that thought he departed to find the ship’s quartermaster.
Lt. Mado (FSA)
OOC: Will get onto all the check-ins shortly. Thanks for the tough welcome!
OOC: Not a problem. :) –Terry
The door rang to the Ready Room.
“Enter,” Remy replied.
Commander Wells entered. “So, I observed a new officer, one I don’t recognize, Captain, and given we’re in the past, I found it unusual, so I thought to ask how did this officer come aboard?” asked Wells.
GM
The CO sat back down behind his desk and indicated for Wells to take the seat opposite. Reaching into the desk drawer, he pulled out the eer-present bottle of boubon and two glasses. He filled both of them and slid one across to Helena. He yed her momentarily debating on how much to explain.
“To ‘ell wit’ it,” he finally mumbled. “You are correct, Cmdr. Lt. Mado was no’ originally on de crew’s manifest when de mi-SHON began. Between Starfleet Command. Federa-SHON Security, and DTI, someone felt it was necessary to send Lt. Mado to our current time and posi-SHON.”
He downed half the bourbon in one swallow and swirled the rest of the liquid around inside the glass before continuing. He eyed Wells with a suspicious smirk.
“I am sure in you’ line of work, ‘Elena, you ‘ave dealt wit’ DTI, an’ sometine tells me dat I won’ be surprised to find out you are familiar with Adm. Irene Frederic, no?”
Boudreaux (CO)
Wells face went pale. She recomposed herself, took the glass of bourbon that the Captain offered and downed the entire glass.
“There is only one Irene Frederic I know, Captain, and I was unaware of her involvement in DTI. Sufficient to say, the last I saw the Irene Frederic I knew was back around 2014… And she wasn’t an Admiral, either. Captain, do you remember our conversation earlier where I discussed my past?”
GM
“Oui, I do, but Adm. Frederic is a mystery to me. I don’ ‘ow or which department of Starfleet she works for, with, in, or leads. She does seem to ‘ave some pull wit’ DTI, but I did no’ get the impre-SHON dat is who she worked for. An’ all of dis involves you ‘ow?”
OOC: I don’t have the post I wrote under WeBBSpace, so I’m going to have to make this up again. If this differs from what anyone has, please let me know. FYI, this is a slight spoiler for Warehouse 13…
IC:
“To recap, Captain, I was born on September 21st, 1866 as Helena George Wells. My brother is Charles Wells, and actually I am the author known as HG Wells. Since in 1866 was not as progressive in compared to 2016 or the 24th century, a female science fiction author was – relatively unheard of. My brother served as the photo of my authorship and in 1889, I met a man named Caturanga which was part of a secret organization. That secret organization is the reason my brother’s face still remains in the history books as the man you know as H.G. Wells.
“To understand what that secret organization does, I have to explain something about the universe. On Stardate 41263.1, the USS Enterprise-D captained by Jean-Luc Picard was thrown to the edge of the known universe. A place where thought manifests into reality, where our understanding of the universe is different from what we know to be true. Crew members experienced interactions with things they thought of, a childhood pet materializing out of thin air for example. This fundamental nature of the universe is actually present in our corner of the universe, but presents itself quite differently. Inanimate objects over time can be imbued with the same similar properties of this unknown quality of the universe. Sufficient to say, our understanding of this is quite limited – how and why it happens hasn’t been completely discovered. Even more so back in 1889… what I knew in 1889 was that endless wonders abound, and that objects that had certain metaphysical properties that seem to be able to affect reality – whether it was physical or emotional on a person or the environment – were what our organization called ‘artifacts.’
“The thing is, stories that mirrored in legend had some grain of truth in it, and things that seem absurd were more likely because certain objects were actually these artifacts that had, for lack of a better term, powers. It was the nature of our organization to collect and store these artifacts, and remove them from the general public to keep the general public safe from harm. At the time, my organization was called Warehouse 12.
“Yes, if you are wondering, that meant there were 11 different incarnations of the Warehouse before Warehouse 12. The first Warehouse was built by Alexander the Great, but only housed artifacts he collected during his life while on campaign. Unusual things that he found, as best I could determine when I was agent of Warehouse 12 and interested in the Warehouse’s history. Warehouse 2 which was built in Egypt after the death of Alexander the Great formed the secret organization which lead to its further iterations later. A governing body known as the Regents were formed that became in charge of the Warehouse. Every iteration of the Warehouse resided in whichever country was the leading power and moved each time a country’s power waned.
“In 1899, my daughter, Christina, was murdered. I became obsessed in using the Warehouse’s to my own personal gain in attempt to alter the past to save my daughter’s life. I managed to create a time machine that caused a person’s consciousness to time travel. I did manage to use the machine but failed to still stop the murder of my daughter. Saddened by my daughter’s death, I tracked down the men who killed my daughter and took my revenge. I requested to be Bronzed – a process within the Warehouse that uses an artifact to preserve a person indefinitely as a result of my daughter’s death and the fact I murdered men for revenge in 1900. Think of it as the Warehouse’s method of cryogenic stasis without the need of a constant power source.
“In 2010, I was debronzed. By then, a new Warehouse had been built in the United States of America, a superpower at the time. And at the time, Irene Frederic, she was known as the Caretaker of Warehouse 13 – a person who has a symbiotic connection with the Warehouse. Sufficient to say, for a period of time, I was an enemy of Warehouse 13 and later rejoined as an agent for a brief period of time. I retired from the organization in 2013, stayed in contact with agents of Warehouse 13 and returned inventing. In 2018, as the sleeper ships were being retired, I purchased one. I outfitted the sleeper ship with my version of the Bronzer and left Earth to explore the universe. My friends wanted me to stay but my heart of inventing and the call of possibilities and potentially waking up further in the future could not be ignored. I celebrated one last party with them before embarking on my own journey, leaving all that I knew behind, and severing my relationship with the Warehouse organization completely.
“I was found by a Starfleet vessel on a remote world and brought to the Department of Temporal Investigations where I spent 3 years studying about time and being re-integrated into society into the 24th century. I then spent the next 3 years at the Academy, and 3 years working my way up to the rank of Commander. I have not heard anything about my Warehouse 13 colleagues for a long time, and since their activities were highly clandestine, impossible to track down after 400 years. The one thing they tell you as an agent of Warehouse… all roads eventually lead back to the Warehouse. I was hoping that after 400 years, it would not hold true. I suppose the fact that Irene Frederic is still alive – proof that I am wrong.”
GM
Remy sat there, dumbfounded. His eyes almost appeared glassy and his jaw was slack. He finished off the bourbon in his glass, poured another and finished that in one large gulp.
“Dat is a very interestine story, Commander. You almost ‘ad me believine it,” Remy replied with a chuckle, “‘cept dat part ‘bout de Warehouses. . . . dat is . . . . you are serious, aren’t you?”
“Yes.”
The look on her face said she was, but he was trying to decide if she was crazy and believed her own outrageous story or if it was all true. The way thi mission was playing out, Remy was beginning to even doubt his own sanity.
Wells reached from her pocket and put on a pair of purple gloves. “Captain, do you recall that personal shield device I told you about?”
She revealed a small device attached to her hip. It was unusual, because it was far smaller than Remy expected. She opened the device, to reveal an ancient Egyptian coin inside and another ancient Greek coin as well as other 24th century components.
“This is an ancient Egyptian coin with the picture of the goddess of Isis. It was said that her magical abilities were so great, they could heal the sick and bring back the dead. This coin is one component of this personal shield device that allows me to be protected from infection. The other coin is an ancient Greek coin showing the Goddess Athena holding the symbols of her Aegis. I found the Egyptian coin during a trip to Egypt after hearing rumors that a shaman had the ability to heal anyone of any illness… while it worked, it came at the cost of the user of the coin. The Greek coin, I discovered after hearing a child and her mother who found the coin was involved in an automobile accident that had destroyed the car but they survived the accident completely unharmed. Both that I kept from my time as being an agent. These two coins add a layer of protection to this device… and also provide additional power.”
“Is our mission really to gadder informa-SHON on de Underspace? Is de Underspace supposed to be one of dese ‘artifacts’? Am I goine to need sometine stronger dan bourbon to make sense of all of dis?”
Boudreaux (CO)
“Computer, display image of Admiral Irene Frederic.”
It was the same woman that Wells knew.
“That is the same Mrs. Frederic I know. As far as I am aware, Admiral Frederic may be just keeping an eye on me. The mission, as you recall, was assigned by Admiral Janeway, who is taking the threat of a possible invasion of Vaadwaur seriously… that and she feels responsible,” said Wells, “Regardless, when Mrs. Frederic, I mean Admiral Frederic is involved, we should be careful.”
GM
GM
“Dis Adm. Frederic, she is a dangerous person? Or is it when she is involved in sometine, de amount of dangerous is amplified?”
Boudreaux (CO)
“I wouldn’t necessarily classify her as dangerous, Captain, but certainly dedicated to the Warehouse’s mission, which I assume after all this time, she hasn’t changed her position from that dedication,” said Wells, “Sufficient to say, being involved with Warehouse matters does put you in somewhat in the vicinity of danger. Either directly or indirectly.”
GM
Remy finally corked the bottle of bourbon and replaced it in his desk drawer. “I will keep dis informa-SHON in mind, commander, but you are correct. It was Jsneway dat sent us on dis mis-SHON, an’ I plan on achievine ‘er goals whether Adm. Frederic ‘as an ulterior motive or no’t. We are goine to get what we came for.”
