Wells showed up 5 minutes later. “My apologizes, I was delayed by a conversation I was having with the Captain on some personal matters. To what can I assist you with?” asked Wells.

Alita may have lost her body for the moment but, in her opinion, it seemed Wells’ intelligence had escaped her.

She stood tall and looked the woman in the eyes.

“The Science Officer said you, or the CE, could probably help us put things to right. I want out of this body and I think it needs to be more of a priority than everybody’s making it. So I require your assistance.” she stated.

“Ah, you must be Lt. Claire. Yes, I have consulted with the Chief Engineer on your situation and we have come up with a potential viable solution but I’m afraid it can’t be implemented until the Captain finishes discussing with the alien trader. Sufficient to say, we don’t have enough power to use the transporter and the computing resources required to unscramble your patterns into their respective parts. I’m afraid, Lieutenant, I can’t go into much details than that as the device we intend to use is rather classified,” said Wells.

Alita got the strong sense that Wells was telling the truth but she still didn’t trust the woman completely.

“And how much longer do you think this negotiation is going to take? I believe the longer we are in this state, the harder it will be for any device to return us to normal.” she explained.

Ahearn walked into the lab, preoccupied with samples in his hand and not seeing the two figures as he made his way to the biological containment unit. Placing the samples in the unit, he began generating a holographic model and then saw the two and jumped in surprise. “Good lord!” he exclaimed and then calmed a bit. “What are you two doing in here?” and then he looked at Alita. “Who in the nine hells are you?”
