Giving Armand his full attention once again, he asked, “What makes you tink he was murdered?”
“Remy, you know this as well as I do. Every night, he locked that shop up like a fortress, traps and wards all over the place. If he wanted to, he could even keep you out, but he trusted you, so that wasn’t an issue. Tika and I know the way in, because he trusted us, too. But there weren’t many others that I’m aware aware. Someone was able to break in and surprise him. About the only way I know someone could have done that was with. . . . ” Armand lowered his voice to a whisper and leaned in closer, “. . . magic!”

Remy leaned back and laughed at the seriousness is his friends tone. “Magic? Really? You know magic is just karma favorine de lucky, right?”
Ayla frowned slightly. She didn’t know the program and its settling well enough to know if ‘magic’ was a real thing here, so she wasn’t going to comment on that part. But there was another area she had a question about. “You said there weren’t too many others… that you knew about. What about the ones you do know about, or what about the possibility that there was someone you didn’t know about?” They had to rule out certain things, but she suspected they would need to go over there and look about themselves.

The bartender turned back to Ayla. “There are a couple of others that he dealt with. A couple of smugglers that moved merchandise for him. I met them once or twice. Portier. seemed to be on good terms with them, their conversations were genial. But, they haven’t been in town for, maybe, at least a month? There were others, but none of them I knew by name. . . sorry I can’t help more.”
She nodded. “Anything at this point could be useful.”
Remy was quiet for a few moments while he took in the information. Finally he reached under the table and began caressing Ayla’s thigh. “What do you say, cher. You up fo’ a nocturnal b & e?”

She leaned in towards him and smirked. “I thought you’d never ask.” Ayla was joking a bit, but in the context of this program and the increasing (and rather delightful) tension between them, it was all a part of the character she was happy to play.
Rising gracefully, Ayla bowed her head to Armand. “Thank you for your hospitality, but it looks like we should investigate more.”
Knowing Remy would be right there with her, Ayla moved through the place and out the door, not looking back at anyone directly, but looking through her peripheral vision for anyone overly interested in their departure.

Remy watched Ayla walk out through the establishments front door, while surreptitiously watching the inns patrons.
A moment later, he followed her into the street. By this time it was dusk, but there was still plenty of light for a stroll to Prtier’s shop.
He held out his arm for Ayla as they began walking down the street. “No one seemed to pay amy atten-SHON as we left Armand’s, but I am puutine money on de fact dat someone ‘as eyes on Portier’s shop, so keep you’ eyes peeled when we get near.”
