“Ensign, I see dat por-SHONs of you’ record ‘ave been redacted or ‘ave been classified. I spent most of my career in de Intel field, an’ I still ‘ave quite de ‘igh security clearance. I could spent my time making calls and’ fishine to get full access to you’ file, but I would radder ‘ear it straight from you as to what is in de blacked out sec-SHONS. You being straight wit’ me, right ‘ere, right now, will go a long way in knowine ‘ow much I can trust you. Many of de Wolverine’s ops are extremely covert, an’ de trust among de crew is very important?”

Boudreaux (CO)

“Of course, Captain.” He collected his thoughts and decided it best to be forthright with the Captain.

“First, sir. I have a history of intel, espionage, a few assinations, guerilla warfare ops, and several other mission categories that I ran before Star Fleet. Some of those are referenced in my file and some aren’t. Some because a few Admirals were kind to me and helped keep a cleaner record upon my entering Star Fleet, and several because they would have needed to or had a hard time dismissing Section 31 activity in those missions.” If the Captain wanted specifics to those missions he was more than happy to give them but he continued with his narrative.

REmy’s lip curled up in disgust at the mention of Section 31, yet he let McGarvey continue.

“I had always planned on joining Star Fleet because I believe in the cause of Star Fleet and the Federation and ultimately I think an entity like Star Fleet can do a much better job than just one man running solo missions. That said, I am not blind to the corruption or corruptibility of any structured system. Thus why not every Admiral is my friend.” He paused and gave a wry grin at that statement believing that this Captain would understand what he meant with such a statement.

The captain simply nodded, knowing full well what the man meant.

“I had been moving up the ranks in Star Fleet successfully and had taken a new position on the Ark Angel when I received a comunique that my fiance had been abducted by a man that I thought I had killed. He was trying to leverage her for political power on her home planet and get revenge on me. Upon hearing the news, I left my post, I did submit a Leave of Absense request and my understanding is that my CO did approve it, however, some of the higher up brass were not so kind. I assembled a unit of people I could trust and ran an op on my own to retrieve her, by appearance we had been successful. I was en route back to her home planet when we recieved a comm from him expressing his deepest distress that we had taken his guest from his care as she needed a daily antidote in order to stay alive.” Wraith a man that rarely struggled with his emotions paused for a long moment.

“Less than five minutes later, Catherine was dead. My choices that followed that day were not kind and I must confess that I have a few fewer friends some because they died in the missions that followed, and some because they saw a side of me that they hadn’t encountered before, they thought they knew what heartless was but they had never seen Wraith lose all sense of ethics. I held nothing back in my pursuit of the Baron.” He thought briefly of his Bajoran ally Gale who had requested that he never contact him again after asking him to heal the Baron just so he could further torture him.

Remy could completely understand what McGarvey may have been feeling. He had felt himself on that brink when he thought that he had lost Ayla. “De tragic loss of a loved one can drive us us to become something better. . . .or much worse.”

“I wandered for a few years after this incident, alone. I had all but lost my mind in that time frame. Finally, thanks to a very kind family and some very dumb criminals I remembered who I was and why I had dedicated my life to training, I contacted Star Fleet and after a short and quiet Court Martial where all charges were dropped, my file basically sealed, and I was demoted back to Ensign, they then placed me on your ship, Captain.” As he finished his condensed version of his file he sat open to any questions the Captain may have.

“Believe it o’ no’, ensign, your career is no’ so different from my own. Our background skills are very similar, an I too, ‘ave suffered almos’ de same kind of los’ I loved de woman as much as my own sister. She was de wife of my best friend. She an’ her son were murdered. . . . .”

“Sometimes we do ‘ave to make de ‘ard choices, even if dey end up beine de wrong ones in ‘indsight. I am a strong believer in second chances. In fact, it was someone dat gave me a second chance dat put me in de posi-SHON I am in today. I would like to believe you were sent to us for dat second chance, Ens. McGarvey. I appreciate you’ candidacy, an’ believe you’ skills an’ experiences will be an asset to de Wolerine. Welcome aboard.”

Remy stood from behind his desk and stuck out right hand.
