Mwezi had to admit, he’d had a lot of fresh starts over the course of his years in Starfleet, but being transferred because a ship was being retired was new.At least this time he had his partners with him, he reflected, smiling at Kula taking a nap with a book over her face and Shilo excitedly chatting with the shuttle pilot about something or other related to piloting.
The shuttle slid into the Wolverine’s shuttlebay, and Mwezi quietly touched the second pip on his collar. He’d gone up and down the rank ladder a few times now. Maybe this time it’d even stick, he thought with a wry smile.
Shilo thanked the pilot for the ride and quickly grabbed their bags. Kula snorted adorably as she was woken, and the trio stepped out into their new home.

Once all their stuff was moved over into their new quarters, Mwezi straightened his uniform and quietly ambled down to the security office, tapping the chime to the door and waiting for the chief to call him in.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Mwezi
Security Officer USS Wolverine“Yeah, come in.” came a distinctly feminine voice from inside. The door slid open to reveal the office of the ship’s Security and Tactical Chief. The space was… well… ‘spartan’ may have been a bit too harsh of a descriptor; but it was fitting. The office was clean and packed almost anything that would indicate anything about it’s lone occupant; a human woman with fiery red hair that was currently in a tight braid that started at the back of her head and went down to between her shoulder blades. But it was when she looked up that it became apparent why the Personnel officer had told Mwezi “Don’t look her straight in the eyes. She’ll steal your soul or some s#!t.” when the Security office picked up their orders. The woman’s eye glowed bright, electric blue. Obviously cybernetic but unlike anything the Junior Lieutenant had seen before; the eyes locked onto Mwezi and the woman stood. She wasn’t as tall as Mwezi, but she was certainly taller than human average. The electric blue eyes stared at Mwezi for a moment and then she said “Lieutenant JG Mwezi? Lieutenant McCallister. Welcome to the Wolverine.
McCallister, CoS / CTO
Mwezi was, frankly, quite used to coming face-to-face with new and unusual things in the 24th century, and took in the bright blue cybernetic eyes, as well as the rest of the McCallister’s office and bearing, with the same quiet acceptance he took in everything else he discovered in this century. Although, he thought with amusement, it wasn’t really the 24th century anymore, it was the 25th.
“Lt. j.g. Mwezi, reporting for duty, Chief.” He saluted briefly, then stepped into the office. “I’m happy to be here. I’ve heard good things about the Wolverine.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Mwezi
Security Officer USS Wolverine“She’s a good ship for certain.” McCallister said. “Do take a seat. If you want anything form the replicator, help yourself.” She sat down herself and pulled up Mwezi’s file. “So… tell me about you, Lieutenant. I was informed that there were some… ‘eccentricities’ with your history.”
McCallister, CoS / CTO
Mwezi asked the replicator for a glass of water, and was about to sit when McCallister mentioned ‘eccentricities’. “I suppose there might be…” he looked at the floor for a moment. “How much are you aware of?” he asked, tapping the glass of water in what seemed almost to be a nervous tic. What he didn’t say outright, but was thinking, is what did her security clearance clear her to know?
Lieutenant Junior Grade Mwezi
Security Officer USS WolverineThe lenses and gears inside the cybernetic eyes moved and shifted even as the face they were in smiled. “Well… why don’t we start with ‘Im not from around here’ and go from there?”
McCallister, CoS / CTO
“Well, that one is simple enough to explain,” Mwezi shrugged. “My Mates and I fell through a… hole… in spacetime (I don’t really understand the science of it), and ended up transplanted from the year 2263 to the year 2396. Not just that, but we also traveled across timelines. Based on what I can tell from studying history, the main divergence point between the timeline I grew up in and this one is that in the year 2233, a Romulan mining ship called the Narada arrived from the future, and things followed from there. And apparently, it came from your timeline.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Mwezi
Security Officer USS WolverineRaven listened and nodded as Mwezi spoke. “Well that certainly accounts for the gaps in your record.” she said with a half-smile. “I try to keep as much distance between me and the D.T I. as possible, so let’s just do our best going forward to make any… difficulties… that may arise from your transplantation be addressed between the two of us as much as possible. Sound good to you?”
McCallister, CoS / CTO
“We have been in this timeline for nearly half a decade, so most ‘difficulties’ have been generally smoothed out, in regards to our integration into modern life. Starfleet was quite generous in allowing me to continue to serve. I enjoy being out here, exploring, and I may have gone mad with boredom if I’d been confined to Galdor,” he said with a wry chuckle. “But, I will keep that in mind if any further issues arise.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Mwezi
Security Officer USS Wolverine” Good.” McCallister said. “Now then… tell me what you are wanting out of this assignment. What are you expecting, and what most concerns you about it.”
McCallister, CoS / CTO
Mwezi considered the question. “Well, I transferred because my previous post was mothballed. So, something similar? I am not yet familiar with the nature of missions on the Wolverine, but I expect there will be a variety of duties - away team missions, guarding and patrolling corridors, protecting diplomats and department heads, etcetera.”
[[OOC; the writer can’t think of any concerns]]
Lieutenant Junior Grade Mwezi
Security Officer USS WolverineMcCalluster leaned back in her chair and took a breath. ” Well, I can see that some familiarization may be in order. You see Lieutenant, the Wolverine isn’t a typical ship. We take on missions that standard fleet vessels probably wouldn’t take part in. This is an Intel vessel, after all. So I would think less about preparing to guard diplomats, and more on how you might be able to support The rest of the crew as they gather said intelligence in a meaningful and efficient manner.” and then she smiled.
“At least that’s the spiel that I was given when I got orders for here a few weeks ago.” and she laughed.
McCallister, CoS / CTO
Mwezi leaned back in his chair a little, returning the laugh. “Well, a man can dream. Perhaps one of our covert missions will require us to host diplomats. One of my previous missions had me posing as a diplomat. Or, well, the bodyguard to one. Now that’s a fun story,” he sighed. “Although, considering it ended with a demotion, I don’t know how fun it was in the end.” He looked contemplative for a moment.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Mwezi
Security Officer USS Wolverine“Demotions are the tool of individuals who don’t know how to lead.” she replied. “Rarely are they truly warranted; and if you drill down to the root cause of circumstances that could lead to them, you’ll almost always find a failure on the part of that individual’s leadership.” and she smiled. “Long way of saying I believe that if you fail, them I have failed you first.” She leaned back in her chair again and said “So as I am unfamiliar with your species, is there anything I should know? Cultural or physical requirements? Holidays you can’t work? Any taboos that I need to try and avoid?”
McCallister, CoS / CTO
“There was a field promotion to the rank of first officer, and I was returned to a lower rank by Starfleet Intelligence due to being deemed a security risk. They do not trust me because I am from another timeline, and I expect because I do not have a background that can be properly investigated.”
“I am limited on some away-team missions - as you can see, I don’t exactly resemble most species in the Galaxy, so any mission that might require an away team to be inconspicuous is .. somewhat difficult,” Mwezi answered thoughtfully. “I will send you a list of holy days for the next year, they are based on Galdor’s calendar so do not line up with the standard date system. I do not have any taboos worth mentioning, but these earrings,” he lifted a hand to touch two small golden loops at the base of his right ear, then turned his head and indicated two silver loops at the base of his left ear, two holes where further loops used to be above them, “are of cultural significance.” There were half a dozen more smaller ear piercings which were not filled by earrings, having been emptied for his duty shift.

Raven nodded and said ” Wear what you like, Lieutenant. I tend to be pretty laid back with regards to appearance; as long as you don’t look like a complete slob.” and she chuckled. “As for the holy days, just let me when you won’t be available and we’ll work with you. And with regards to that, we have a small department here; but we do have two- now three- officers who will need time off. I expect you to support them as they will support you in filling in. You okay with that?”
