USS Wolverine
Back Sim: Marines Assembling
Coming from his enlisted background and then a typical run as a squad and platoon leadership roles, Valoru was used to many different marines around him, from multiple types of teams. He had specialized in reconnaissance and armed support, but had of course trained and toured in all areas. It was only natural that coming to a smaller vessel with much smaller digs and membership would be an adjustment.
“You’re going down hill, Valoru,” his fellow lieutenants would chide. That or, “you’ll never get that cushy desk job.”
They knew better, as Valoru was a martial arts machine and would likely never truly settle for a desk job. Even though he had become an officer, he was still a marine. The term grunt was a complement he relished. And going to the Wolverine to personally manage a couple small fire teams was better than a larger squad or platoon lead, in his view.
Stopping off at Black Rock station was priority before he would meet up with the Wolverine. There he managed to meet a two of his fire team sergeants, and get some basic supplies and personnel reports delivered to him to study in advance of arrival.
“Do we at least have a full supply of gear, el tee?” asked Flannus.
Valoru’s head bobbed an affirmative, his Andorian antennae flowing with the movement as usual. “It’s a small ship, but they did carve out enough space for our required gear.” He handed the datapad over to the sergeant. “You didn’t get everything on your list, but close. They had most of it already.”
The other sergeant, named Or’khill, chimed in. “Yeah, I heard this was one of the better teams around.”
The Andorian nodded as he eyed both of them in turn. “Indeed. That’s why it’s a premier posting, if you ask me.” The old cliche best of the best rolled around in his head briefly. “And that’s why we’re here.” It wasn’t boasting - it was fact.
Val sipped his tea and looked at another padd. They weren’t 100% sure on their team makeup, as a lot of it would depend on how the current teams were doing on the Wolverine’s present mission. There was some dicy goings-on out there. But again, they had to remind themselves that that was why they were being called up to this posting. This ship would require a lot of them, but it would be extremely rewarding.
The trio would continue with an even mix of planning and cracking wise for the next while. They had a few hours before the warp sled would be ready for their departure, and they would use that time wisely, as every good marine was taught.
