“I’ll give you something for it.” She was afraid of that. Pushing the sessions too fast. With his paracortex healed, she could slow down a bit. He needed a vitamin infusion as well. She dialed the meds in one handed and then pressed it to his shoulder. “There. That will help. Go ahead and sleep. You can try something to eat later.” She sounded tired. “I’ll be here, it’s okay.”Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“I’m okay, Dee, promise…” He said, but as the pain meds started to work he dozed off. He slept for a couple hours, but Dee could tell he was dreaming. She’d seen it enough times. Tessan would be able to sense it, it was a nightmare.
~ Zoi
Dradvia stopped the research she was doing and took Sisnil’s hand. She bent close to him, so she could whisper right into his ear. “Sisnil, it’s Dee. You’re okay. You’re on the Wolverine and no one here is going to hurt you. I’m watching. I won’t let them. I know you can’t sense it, you feel alone, but you’re not. I won’t leave. I promise.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Her voice helped calm him. A short while later, he woke, seeming a little disoriented. “Dee?” He asked, voice soft, still sounding tired.
~ Zoi
Sisnil could hear a PaDD being set down before her hand set gently over his. “I’m right here. You slept for awhile.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil turned his hand and squeezed hers. “How are you? Have you slept?”
~ Zoi
“I’m alright.” She wanted to hug him, but she couldn’t. “No, not yet.” There was too much to do now.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Tealor smiled as he watch Dradvia do her work he had tried to reach Reya a few times to no avail. He decided to send her an encrypted message. He erected a privacy field
*Hi Reya,
It looks like you are busy as usual, listen I don’t want to beat around the bush, I have a parasite that is slowly killing me, I have attached the scans we have so far and will continue to update as I can. He looked serious, it’s not good as you can see. I know your going to get mad at me for doing this but I don’t want anything left unsaid..
He continued on for about twenty minutes, smiling laughing, and a few times crying.
Here is the other thing it’s a lot to ask, but there are a few people here that need me, two of them are special cases that will need you, if I’m not here.*
he went on for over an hour talking to the screen and then he closed the Padd, sighed and removed the privacy field.
Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S WolverineDradvia looked over as the field went down. “How are you feeling Dr. Tessan?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“Better actually, ” that was largely do to the fact that he was sensing everyone’s emotions, reading the surface thoughts of people nearby though not Dradvia’s and shielding Sisnil from thought intrusion, but he was not going to tell her that. “How about him?”
Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S Wolverine“I’m fine,” Sisnil said. He seemed a little more irritable than usual but he didn’t mention his dream. “Just want to be better.”
~ Zoi
Tealor smiled but before he said anything the computer chimed,”no cases related to current parasite confirmed in starfleet records”
Tealor sighed
Dradvia wanted to sigh but didn’t.
“You are better, and you’ll keep getting that way.” Both their vitals were stable at the moment. She hadn’t heard anything from her search yet, but that was okay. She kept trying to figure out where Tessan might have picked the parasite up at… “Computer run a level 1 medical scan of the ship. Are there any other signs of this parasite on the ship?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
The computer responded “there are no equivalent lifesigns on bord”
Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S WolverineWell that was good news at least.
She patted Sisnil’s hand. “Alright time fir some exercise. You still need some regeneration treatments, but the sooner you start using your muscles again, the better. Computer run EMH physical therapy module, Patient Sisnil Zoi.” The EMH shimmered to exsistance. “Please state…”
Dradvia interupyed him. “Run evaluation protocol for Sisnil Zoi.” The EMH nodded and walked over. Dradvia squeezed his hand. “I’ll be right here, I just need to check on Tessan quickly, alright?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Tealor looked over at Sisnil he was sure that he would take good care of Dradvia when he was gone. In a month or two he would burnout and die or lose his mind which was the same thing. “How’s it looking doctor?” he asked Dradvia as she walked over.
Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S Wolverine“His paracortex is healed. He’ll be exhausted for awhile from the accelerated healing. His telepathy should return soon. I’ve worked on his occipital lobe, but there isn’t anything more I can do there. The damage is too severe. Regeneration of his nervous system is going well. I’m starting him on a PT regimen with the EMH. The sooner he starts moving the faster his body will heal.”
Then Dradvia looked at Tessan’s readings. “For you, no change. I’ve put in a request to an infectious disease specialist and to the medical board on Betazed and Vulcan.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Tealor looked at her, she was so hopeful, something he needed right now. “I sent word to a friend back home, my counselor,” he said, “And trusted friend, she’s looking into a few things for me now” he noted “I’ve been noticing that it wants a constand draw on my telepathy if I try to close it down to much it gets angry. “The ice makes it feel so much better, why to try and scan while we apply some ice?” he asked
Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S WolverineDradvia kept an ear and eye out on Sisnil while she spoke to Tessan. Sisnil was liable to try and reprogram the EMH if it annoyed him. She nodded, Let’s do that. Kgnan get a fresh ice pack for Dr. Tessan while I set up the neural scanner.” Kgnan brought the icepack and Dradvia had the scanner set up. “You know the first and most certain way to kill a parasite is to starve it.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“I do understand that, though every time I try that I feel like it’s trying to yank out my spine. and mash my brain” he noted waiting for the cool relief of the ice pack.
Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S Wolverine“We’ll figure it out,” Dradvia told him. “I will reach out to the Vulcan Science Academy and the Deltan Medical Corp. I’ll also make a request for a prosthetics specialist to come for Sisnil, for his eyes.” Dradvia had never done neuro surgery and certainly not a prosthetic replacement, and Tessan should not be doing something so delicate right now.
They could hear strings of curses as Sisnil worked through the evaluation. They were lucky he was blind, or he probably would have tried something funny. When the eval was over, he was sore and grouchy.
~ Zoi
Dradvia came over and set her hand on Sisnil’s shoulder. “Would you like an anti-inflammatory for the soreness?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil nodded. He reached her her hand and gently set his over hers. He looked exhausted.
~ Zoi
Dradvia took his hand, using the other to prep the hypo and then pressing it to his arm. “It will be rough right now, but soon you’ll be your old self again.” While they sat she ran a scan to see how his paracortex activity was doing.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
The reason he hadn’t sensed anything was because the psilosynine was still being used to repair and recover but there was a lot of paracortex activity. It shouldn’t be long before he started having flashes of sensation. He squeezed her hand gently and nodded. “Tessan is okay?”
~ Zoi
The computer chimed there was an incoming priority message from Betazed.
Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S WolverineDradvia stepped into the medical office to accept the message. “This is Dr. Dradvia on the USS Wolverine.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
The rather pretty Vulcan woman with black hair and black irises filled the screen. “Hello Dr, I’m Commander Salen, I’m a close personal friend of Dr Tessan. I understand you have been looking for information related to his parasite, I was contacted by an Archeologist today. I have not reviewed it as it just hit my desk, but it sounds like it might be a good match, only. ” she paused far more emotional that most vulcans. “I am curious how an anchient Symbiot housed only in our anchient tempes on batazed managed to get on your ship and in his head.” she noted tapping a few things on a PaDD. “I’m sending you the data now. ” she paused and her deminor changed. “How is he Ensign?”
Species: Psivora leechis
Common Name: Psi Leech
Classification: Ancient Psionic Parasite
Status: Long-dormant species; rediscovered after 400+ years
Threat Level: High (during integration); Low (post-integration)Behavior & Lifecycle (Revised)
Phase I – Dormant Vector
Lies inactive in psionic relics, latent neural tissues, or deep-sleep telepathsActivation triggers:
Ancient psionic resonance (artifacts, ruins)
Unfiltered mind-meld with an infected host
Sudden, overwhelming telepathic traumaPhase II – Initiation (Weeks 1–3)
Begins low-level attachment to psionic centers (paracortex, limbic bridge)
Mimics neural frequencies to remain undetectable
Symptoms minimal: vivid dreams, slight headaches, emotional echoesPhase III – Chaotic Adaptation (Weeks 4–16)
This is the critical—and misleading—phase where hosts are often misdiagnosed as dying.
The parasite expands through the host’s psionic lattice, rewriting micro-connections between synaptic folds
Violent side effects due to neurological reshaping:
Seizure-like episodes
Sudden bursts of empathic overflow
Involuntary telekinesis or psionic feedback
Blackouts, migraines, emotional whiplash
Brain scans show wild psionic turbulence, similar to terminal psionic syndromeMisconception:
Medical personnel often believe the parasite is killing the host.
In reality, the Psi Leech is establishing a permanent neural symbiosis — a process it cannot rush, and that the host must physiologically survive.Phase IV – Integration (Months 5+)
Host and parasite fully bonded
Psionic signals stabilize at amplified strengthNew abilities may emerge:
Controlled telekinesis
Cross-species psionic translation
Precognitive insight (in rare cases)
Parasite becomes nearly impossible to remove without killing the host or destroying psionic functionKey Traits
Survival-Driven The parasite won’t intentionally kill its host. It needs the host.
Misdiagnosed Early symptoms mirror psionic degeneration or brain inflammation.
Hard to Detect Tricorders can’t see it unless calibrated for psionic turbulence and cortical resonance.
Unremovable Once bonded, attempting to remove it causes catastrophic psionic collapse.
Neutral Alignment The parasite is not evil — it’s a lifeform trying to survive in an alien nervous system.** Historical Notes: “The Fire Months”**
Among ancient Betazoids, those who survived infection were known as “Those Who Walked Through Fire.” They were revered, feared, and sometimes assassinated out of panic. One House (House Belarin) secretly passed a Psi Leech symbiont between members for generations — until they were wiped out. Some scholars believe the parasite was once cultivated intentionally to force psionic evolution, like a dangerous rite of passage.
Narrative Application:
A Starfleet officer is showing symptoms of neural decay — but psionic scans are inconclusive.
Medical recommends removal — but a Betazoid elder warns: “If you remove it now, you’ll kill them.”
The captain must decide: follow protocol, or trust the ancient warning.
Over time, the officer survives — and emerges stronger, changed, and forever bound to a force no one fully understands.Commander Reya Salen
Dradvia read over the information quickly. “I’m not sure how he contracted it. He’s been on board the ship. From what this looks like he’s in stage 2. When he gets upset, things go flying across the room. He can’t sleep, and he can’t stop using his telepathy. It’s excruciatingly painful if he tries. It tries to cut off his brain stem when he attempts it. He’s behavior is erratic, volatile at times.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Her face sagged some, “I.. I see” she said, she sounded defeated. “I, take care of him please, I” she looked like she was about to cry. “I don’t have many friends” she finished. “Can you keep me in formed of his progress, and tell him. ” she thought about it for very long moments. “Tell him, I’ll see him soon” she whispered.
Commander Reya Salen
“Of course. You can speak to him now if you would like. I think it would do him good to hear from a friend,” Dradvia offered. It wouldn’t be difficult to transfer the call to a PaDD and let Tessan have a privacy field.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
She looked at her knowing she was right. “We spoke earlier, I” she paused. “I’m not sure that now is the right time” she said, Dradvia could see pools of water forming in the woman’s eyes and a look of sadness beginning to break her already shattered composure. “Tell him i’ll call him later” she said. “Thank you Ensign” she said and then the call was ended.
