Sisnil closed his eyes and hugged her tight as he could. “How much longer will this last for you?”~ Zoi
Dradvia sniffed again and then drew in a shaky but deep breath. “Ummm…” She looked around for the chronometer trying to think. “The worst should be over in a couple hours, I think.” She’d had a very small dose. “I… usually feel dizzy and can’t eat the next day.”
“At least I think.” Shebwas warming up, the shivering slowing and she was able to relax more. “When… when I first rescued I went through detox. But we were all really hysterical and scared, so the doctors sedated us. Worried we would hurt ourselves. They didn’t realize we were addicted to those too. Every time they gave it to me, I was sick for days after. I took a really small dose. It doesn’t take much anymore.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil hugged her again. “I’ll be right next to you ‘till you’re better, okay?”
~ Zoi
Could he feel how those words rocked her precarious foundation. The one that stood poorly built and all alone, that already threatened to fall every other day? That everything shifted but became a little more steady. Did he know what he was doing?
She sighed, but it wasn’t sad. More happy and a bit frustrated. “I’m supposed to be taking care of you. How are you feeling?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“I’m fine,” Sisnil reassured her, “Even the headache is going away.”
~ Zoi
“Are you sure? Maybe… maybe I should take a scan,” she pushed up with her hands, but as soon as she did a wave of dizziness hit her and her stomach cramped in agony. She whimpered as she but her lip to stop from being sick again.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil hugged her to him. “Come on- I’d carry you, but I can’t,” he said softly, and tugged on her. “You’re going to lay down on a bed, okay?”
~ Zoi
Dradvia shook her head trying not move, but Sisnil was relentless. She let him pull her up, but she was too dizzy. She swayed and stumbled against him. “Maybe I should stay on the floor.” She moaned, “The walls are moving.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil stumbled and fell when she stumbled against him. She was going to fall too, so he hugged her to him so she’d fall on him. In his head, he cursed the fact he was still too weak.
~ Zoi
“Noooo…” She was going to land on him and hurt him. He was still recovering. She landed on his chest and grunted against the nausea. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” She pushed herself onto all fours to crawl towards where she thought her medkit was. If she hurt him… “Sisnil?” She looked at him, but the room was still spinning and she had to lay down. “Are you okay?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil grunted as she landed on him. She’d knocked the air out of him and he wasn’t quite able to speak as he tried to correct it. So instead he nodded vigorously and held up a finger like “yes, give me a second”.
~ Zoi
She whimpered but not from pain. She’d hurt him. “Let… let me… my kit.” Her stomach hurt so bad from moving, and she was cold and dizzy. Where had she left it?
There, right beside the bed. Her fingers touched it and then she breathed to focus as she opened it and took a scan. If her eyes would just focus.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
He was fine. He hadn’t hit his head, his brain had jerked, but it wasn’t even a mild concussion. Just a tiny bit of extra irritation along the tiny surgery sites. She’d just knocked the breath out of him and as he, at last, coughed, he started breathing normally again. “It’s okay, Dee, I’m fine.”
~ Zoi
“Are you sure?” She slipped back down to her side and just breathed through the stomach cramp. “You… you should get someone to come check you.” She groaned. “Let… let me leave first.” How was she going to do that?
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“No, you don’t need to leave. And you checked me, that’s good enough for me,” Sisnil said. “I’m okay, promise.”
~ Zoi
“Okay,” she put her head back down. “I’ll just stay here.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil moved over to her and curled up around her again. “Then so will I.”
~ Zoi
Drasvia sighed as his warmth chased away the chills again. “I’m dizzy.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“I wish I could help,” Sisnil said softly, hugging her gently.
~ Zoi
“You are.” Dradvia closed her eyes. She knew if she could sleep it would help, but she couldn’t. She probably needed water and food. She lost her last meal and was dehydrated. She didn’t bring any food or drinks back with her. She wouldn’t ask Sisnil to go get anything.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil couldn’t hear her right now, but he came to that conclusion on his own. “Aren’t you hungry or thirsty? I’m gonna get you something.” He patted her gently and pulled his covers over her. “Stay here.” Then he reached for his support frame and hauled himself up.
~ Zoi
Dradvia shook her head. Food would make her sick, maybe. She wanted him to stay. She didn’t want to be alone with the way she was feeling. He’d already covered her and gotten up. She started to get up to go for him, but she got dizzy again, her head beginning to throb with a dehydration headache. She laid back down and blinked, and he was already gone.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
It took longer than it should have, but eventually he was back, balancing a pitcher of water and a cup on a tray. He sat down, by letting himself plop on the floor with a little groan, then reached up and brought the tray down. There were some light foods as well. “Here. At least drink something.”
~ Zoi
He’d been gone so long. There were tears on her cheeks. Simon was curled up under the blanket with her, and she was shivering again. It was stupid and the adverse reaction talking, but she’d been scared while she was alone, and he’d been done so long.
When the door opened, she looked up at him. He was back, and tears started again. The water looked delicious, but her stomach didn’t like the look of the food.
“I… I don’t think I can sit up on my own.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil reached around her and supported her to help her sit up. He stayed next to her, rubbing her back. “Sorry it took so long,” he said softly.
~ Zoi
“It’s okay.” Her head rested on his shoulder as the room spun, her head throbbed, and her stomach rebelled. She held the cup in two hands, and sipped very slowly. “Thank you. You didn’t have to go.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“Yes, I did,” he said, keeping an arm around her. “You needed the water.” He’d tripped, that was what took so long. But he wasn’t willing to worry her, or admit he was still so weak he couldn’t make it to the galley alone without an incident.
~ Zoi
“Thank you.” She continued to sip the water slowly. She wanted to gulp it she was so thirsty, but she knew it would make her sick. “Did you get anything?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil shook his head. “I… Forgot,” he said sheepishly. “I was too focused on getting you that.”
~ Zoi
“We can share,” she didn’t need a whole pitcher for herself, and she wasn’t sure about the food. She knew it would be a bit before the water would help. She drank slowly and rested her head on his shoulder. “How are you feeling?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“I’m okay,” Sisnil said. “My vision hasn’t changed and my telepathy is still gone, my empathy is so weak I can only feel the strongest of emotions from you, who’s right next to me, but that’s about it.”
~ Zoi
Her breath hitched. Was it still to early? Had she done something wrong? Panic swelled strongly in her. She’d done something wrong! She reached for her med kit again, fumbling the tricorder.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil set a hand gently on her shoulder and squeezed. “It’s okay, Dee, relax. I’m sure I’m fine, I just probably need to wait, right? I mean, the surgery was less than 24 hours ago.”
~ Zoi
Oh. She sighed heavily. “Yes, it’s… it’s still early.” Not even 24 hours yet? She felt horrible. It seemed much longer. She nuzzled down against his shoulder.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
He lay down with her and hugged her tightly. “Your being sick must have you on edge. Or is it the meds?” He shrugged. “Just relax, okay?”
~ Zoi
“Both,” she said honestly. She hated the out of control feeling when her body refused to function and fell asleep, and then how pitiful and desperate it became for the next dose even after all this time. Being sick from it just made it worse. She let her hands bunch in his shirt and curled into him. “Don’t leave me alone?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“I won’t.” Sisnil rested his head in her and closed his eyes. “I’m right here, Dee.”
~ Zoi
Dradvia closed her eyes, but she didn’t sleep, even though she wished she could. She listened to his heart beat and counted their breaths. Finally the stillness and quiet and warmth helped her relax and the horrible sick feeling eased into numbness.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil rested quietly with her, drifting in and out of sleep as he gently rubbed her back. His heart beat and his breaths were slow and steady, and despite his weakness, he felt the same as ever, firm and strong. Eventually he mumbled sleepily, “How do you feel?”
~ Zoi
“Better,” she yawned and shifted just a little. She was thirsty now, but she didn’t want to move. “I’m so tired.” Could she fall asleep now? Were the effects wearing off? Or was it the sedative forcing her? Her breathing picked up. No, no she hadn’t had more, she was over reacting. “I’m scared,” she whispered.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil hugged her gently. “It’s okay. Tell me what’s wrong? I still can’t tell myself.”
~ Zoi
“I don’t know.” The words shuttered out on a shaky breath. “I think,” she licked her lips, “I think you’re right. I’m on edge because I’m sick.” She hated it because he would feel guilty.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil hugged her gently. “I’m here, okay? Please, don’t do that again.”
~ Zoi
“Okay.” She hated the feeling, she knew it would be like this, and she still felt it was worth it. Sisnil was right though, she shouldn’t have done it. “I’m sorry,” and she started to cry again.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“It’s okay, there’s no need to cry,” Sisnil said, hugging her again. “I love you.”
~ Zoi
“I love you too,” she was almost blubbering. She needed to do better. She wasn’t taking care of herself the way she should. She’d been so scared she was going to lose Sisnil, she couldn’t think of anything else. “I just needed you to get better, and I was stupid.” She curled into his chest, hugging him tightly, like he might disappear.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil smiled. “I understand it, but Dee, how can you keep making me better if you aren’t well?”
~ Zoi
“I can’t.” She knew it, and so did he. She should be yelled at. She should be taken off his case, off duty. She’d let herself be ruled by her emotions and had made a very bad decision. It all made perfect sense at the time, but she was wrong.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil hugged her again. “I can’t say I wouldn’t have done something similar.”
~ Zoi
It was sweet he said so, but she just couldn’t see her big bad pirate succumbing like this. He’d face his hellish monsters, laugh in their faces, and walk away as a bomb exploded around them.
She pulled the blanket closer and closed her eyes.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil wished it were that easy. It would make him happy to know she saw him that way, but his abilities were still offline, so to speak. He closed his eyes too and rested his head against her again. “It’s so quiet.”
~ Zoi
“Should, should we put music on? Would it help?” He said he felt her before. How did she do it? She closed her eyes and thought really hard about how much she loved him, how he made her feel, how much she wanted to make him better.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“It might, but you’re not getting up,” Sisnil said. He felt, for a moment, a little stab of love and he smiled. “Thank you, Dee.”
~ Zoi
“Computer play,” hmmmm… “20th century Earth rock music. Volume soft.” The computer trilled and music began to play quietly in the background. She snuggled against him. “I’d do anything for you.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil hugged her tightly. “And I for you,” he said softly, looking down at her.
~ Zoi
Dradvia tipped her head back to look up at him. She was lost in his fathomless black eyes. Hers filled with soft tears. She had the same look on her face as she had when she told him no one ever took care of her.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil hugged her again. “I’ll look out for you till the day I die, Dee, and nothing will change that.”
~ Zoi
It was like she had butterflies in her heart. She stretched up just a little and kissed his cheek. She tucked her head back down, trying desperately to hide the furious blush on her cheeks.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil couldn’t see her blush anyway. He set his head against her. “Feeling better yet?”
~ Zoi
“Yeah. I think,” she turned her head slightly, “if I stay still I feel okay. I know I should have more water, and try to eat, but I’m afraid if I get up I’ll get dizzy again.” She sighed against him. “I’m warmer.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil hugged her and sat up with her, holding her steady. “How is that?”
~ Zoi
She didn’t even have time to think, Sisnil just lifted her up like she was nothing. “Oh,” he could hear the flush in her voice. “I… I think your muscles are fine,” she blurted out.
Sisnil chuckled. “Well, it’s the nerve impulses that are messed up, not the muscles, right?” He said.
“Actually, your nerve impulses and muscle tissue are all healed. You’re just weak from the strain. Exercise will build your tone back up quickly.” Her fingers ansently traced over the muscles in his forearms.
A pleasant tingle followed her fingers and he smiled, leaning into her. “Then I’ll be back to normal in no time.”
There was a hint of laughter in her voice, “Well that’s the idea, Cap’n.”
She laid her head against him letting him steady her. “Oh… okay. The room spins if I open my eyes.” She sat there for a minute and then slowly opened her eyes, staring at her lap, until she was sure things would stay still. “Thank you.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil held onto her, resting his head on her shoulder. “Try to drink some, okay?”
~ Zoi
She picked up the cup and drank. This time she gulped it, her thirst having returned some. Then she sighed. “It’s empty.” She was going to have to get up to refill it. With the pitcher Sisnil brought. She just needed a minute to steady herself so she could.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil had set the tray on the floor. He reached over and grabbed the pitcher for her, then filled the cup. “There you go.” He also grabbed some plain crackers and set them closer to her.
~ Zoi
Dradvia watched with her head on his shoulder. Her eyes went wide, but she didn’t say anything. He’d picked up the pitcher and the cup and poured without dropping any, found the crackers without searching. Were his eyes already getting better, or was it just a good memory? She wouldn’t say anything, she didn’t want to get his hopes up, or hers for that matter. She’d wait until they did the next scan. She held the cup with both hands and sipped more slowly this time.
“Thank you,” She nibbled on the cracker like a squirrel, taking tiny bites. Her stomach was protesting its extreme emptiness, but she didn’t want to get sick again.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
He knew where he’d set them. His mind was analytical enough to remember the approximate distance. He sat with her while she ate. “Is that helping?”
~ Zoi
“Yes, as long as I go slowly.” She lifted her head just enough to look at him. “Thank you, Sisnil. I couldn’t have gotten to the mess on my own.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil smiled. “You do it for me,” he said. He took a cracker and ate it himself. “I’m just glad you’re feeling better.”
~ Zoi
“I am. Thank you.” She sipped the water and after she set it down she played nervously with her hands.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil didn’t have the skills to read body language. But he did notice her hands. “What are you doing?”
~ Zoi
“Oh,” she shrugged against him. “Just… I feel bad you are having to take care of me when you should be recovering.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
“It’s fine, Dee. I’m okay.” He shrugged, “Was it that intensive of a surgery?”
~ Zoi
Dradvia shook her head and regretted it. “No. If it was you would still be in Sickbay. But you’ve been through a lot medically in the last 2 weeks.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil smiled and hugged her again. “I’ll be okay. And you’re almost better. Then you can take care of me all you want.”
~ Zoi
Dradvia shrugged, “You can take care of yourself. You can probably leave the support frame if you are comfortable. Your PT results have been good.”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil smiled. “Good. Doesn’t mean I don’t still want you here.”
~ Zoi
“Sisnil?” She shouldn’t ask, she didn’t know why it mattered, but the question kept nagging at her.
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil looked at her. “What’s up, Dee?”
~ Zoi
Dradvia picked up her cup and traced the pad of her finger around and around the rim of the glass. She stared at the water and bit her lower lip. “Why did you leave Simon behind?”
Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer
Sisnil looked at Simon and then Dee. “I wanted you to have someone. I couldn’t leave you alone.”
~ Zoi
