Bump it back on the boards

~Dr. T’Pris

OOC: Thanks .. back in the land of the not crazy ..
IC:

“Do you like flowers?” she asked. “Plants, as in having them around you?” She knew this was yet another quick change in topic, or, well, realized that as soon as she said it. Really, was she that scattered in mind to flit from one flower topic to another. Well, maybe she was. Okay, she was. Her family couldn’t keep to one topic with multiple discussions going on and people entering into others seemingly at a whim. “Yeah, I know .. I’m all over. Talk in my house was like driving a traffic circle. Rarely were you on one track too long.”
- Darklis

T’Pris blinked, the change of topic did surprise her for a moment but having served as a Counselor for a short time she was used to a certain amount of disjointedness in conversation.
“I enjoy plants, yes. While on Earth I had several in my apartment that I gave away before I left.”

~Dr. T’Pris

“Do you think we should have a bunch of flowers and plants here in the lab?” She shrugged. “Maybe some experimental. Maybe some to just .. brighten the place up. It looks so much like a .. a .. lab, you know?” DC looked intrigued. “What did you have?” she asked.
- Darklis

T’Pris blinked again and then looked around the lab critically. “We could certainly have a bank of plants around the perimeter I would think. I actually had a mixture of edible plants, I prefer fresh greens for salads, with some wild flowers mixed among them. Wild flowers are actually my favorite for decorative purposes.”

~Dr. T’Pris

Her eyes scanned the perimeter. “And in the middle of a couple of these islands,” she thought aloud. “Vulcan wildflowers?” she asked. “359 was always spotty on taking on Terran flowers in its modest terraforming days. Most don’t even look Terran anymore. You’d not recognize a daisy or rose now. They are quite different. Different colors. In the lowlands about the bogs and swamps there grow these flowers. Tall thin stalks, almost like flamingo legs with a burst of flower at the top. Think tulip but with spiky petals rising to the sky.” She smiled and looked over T’Pris’ shoulder at the memory. “They die at the end of each season, then with the next season there are two to four shoots that come from there to flower anew. Then again. It continues into a kind of bouquet of Tules. That’s what we call them on 359.” She smiled, wistfully. “But they don’t last. It only continues like that until the main stalk can’t hold the weight and it collapses.” Rather a parable on life, DC thought.
- Darklis

T’Pris arched a brow, “Fascinating. Well, we could add those to whatever mix we decide to use.” She suggested.

~Dr. T’Pris

“I wonder if there are any horticulturists in our group. I would think there must be who could help with this as well.” She looked around. Nobody she saw screamed plant person. “Wouldn’t it be something if it was the Klingon.” She herself could do plants. She grew up with them. Plants. Extracts. Potions. Remedies. Those were the stock and trade of her gypsy heritage. She grinned. “We’ll see what we get growing. Maybe I can make some love potions out of them like they did in my family history.” Well, her grandmother did it and mother said she didn’t but when she was little noticed her ‘brewing’ things on the old stove. And the ‘recipe’ book her grandmother showed her with old family ‘recipes’. They were scanned somewhere on file in her folder. Her scientific mind had disregarded that but always wondered if there was something to them. “You’d not be interested in a love potion?”
- Darklis

T’Pris’ eyebrow arched up in skepticism, “A love potion? Seriously? Did that ever really work?”

~Dr. T’Pris

Darklis leaned in conspiratorially. “If one wants it to work.” Her brows wagged up once quickly then she smiled. “In my opinion, it does boil down to chemistry between people, but then there are other times … ” her voice trailed off. It was never like in the holos of this rabid transformation of individuals to be inflamed with lust and neverending love for one another, but the stories she had heard and the couple she had seen. “My family has been dabbling in their pseudo-science for centuries, brewing potions and brews for anything from warts to healing to hair growth to yes love potions.”
- Darklis

T’Prus arched a brow, “I see.” She really didn’t know what else to say. Though that was not entirely true, her eyes narrowed as she thought. “Mind you, species have been using noxious substances for centuries in achieving desired states. Mine own included, in regards to achieving meditation and such.”

~Dr. T’Pris

Darklis had always been totally on the fence with regards to her family history and the mystical dabblings that that had undertaken through the years. On one side she was fascinated with it and her rational mind wanted to delve in to find the secrets of it, but, like a magic trick, knowing would just spoil it, so she had resisted peering too deeply into that caldron. On the other side she wanted to move away from that into more empirical sciences that did not have the snake oil salesman tag attached to it. That being said she found herself leaning in at what T’Pris said, a certain professional (?) fascination slipping in. “Oh? Do tell, what do they use? And what state?”
- Darklis

“Mostly natural roots that have a bit of a sedative effect, enough to relax the body and mind to allow for easier meditation.”

~Dr. T’Pris

“How are they prepared?” she asked, a touch disappointed at the vagueness of the answer. “Our family had more of a potion specialty but dabbled in smoke. Not a kind of smoking to inhale; that went out mostly with good sense.” Well, in the more urban centers. Go rural and you had a plethora of pipes sprouting up like so many personal chimneys. “I mean as a kind of burning or incense.”
- Darklis

T’Pris arched an eyebrow, “ It is still technically inhaled.” She said dryly. Was that humor? It might well be, but hard to tell with her straight face. “Cholla root was one. It has pain relieving and antibiotic properties when made into a paste but soporific properties if it is boiled, strained and ingested.”

~Dr. T’Pris

DC’s lips curled up into a smile. “Yes,” she said relating to her .. dry humor statement?

“Cholla root,” she said, mulling over what it did. It seemed a standard pharmaceutical. Honestly what more would one expect from Vulcans in practicality and functionality and certainly nothing that would let them ‘lose it’ in their emotions. “A very useful root. On Wolf there is a leaf of the Bruel bush. It is a prickly bush and bitter when boiled, but when burned and inhaled it is sweeter. Boiled down it makes a plaster to put over small wounds, drank as a soup is bitter but sooths the stomach, but inhaled is almost a psychedelic.”
