Dr Tessan, McAlister, Cel, Sisnil and Hilderbrand materialised to the conference room. Hilderbrand immediately moved over to the head of the table and waited patiently for the Chief Engineer to join them. He sat down and tapped on a console loading up the trace on the warp trail, he tapped and sent over the co-ordinates to the . He looked at the others.
“Well, it seems we know where they’re going. We’ve got the trail and I’ve sent the co-ordinates to the helm. We need a plan. I’d appreciate any thoughts you all may have.” Hilderbrand said, thinking away himself.GM Budgie
“Do you want my ideas, or will you shoot them down because I’m a ‘pirate’?” Sisnil asked Hilderbrand pointedly. “I know you don’t like a pirate opinion but I do have a lot of experience with this type of mission.”
~ Zoi
Hilderbrand frowned, he was not happy.
“I will take any suggestions right now. Even if they are from a pirate.” He almost spat the word.GM Budgie
“Identify the warp trail so the type of ship can be identified,” Sisnil started. “That’s… Science’s job, yeah? Have them project a course, figure out where they’re headed. Sounds like we’ve done that.”
He looked around at everyone present. “Make a way to disrupt their warp field, if we can catch them, then we use it and stop them.” He waved a hand, “Don’t tell me it can’t be done, I’ve seen it before, get Engineering on it, right now, jdnx’lit,” it was an orion-syndicate word meaning, essentially, ASAP.
Then, he grinned. “Once we’re within connection range, give me the computer system. I’ll have their ship disabled entirely and their information before they know what’s hit ‘em.” He looked at Hildebrand again, “Without a drop of bloodshed, we’ll have everything we need to save them. Maybe have them already, if they’re still on board.”
~ Zoi
Hilderbrand nodded it was a solid idea he still begrudged it coming from Sisnil though. He was about to reply when the hum of a transport occurred. Three officers suddenly appeared. Rodrigo Saravia, Nathan Marshal and Xander Burcham. Hilderbrand looked confused for a second until a com came through. =^=The two new Officers and enlisted marine were meant to meet you at the Starbase before you left, but we were stuck here so they’re joining you now. Good luck=^= Hilderbrand sighed slightly to himself and then smiled at the newcomers. He held out his hand as he introduced himself.
“Captain Horatio Lionel Von Stephens Hilderbrand III, pleased to meet you all. Although you’ve joined us at a tense time. We have a bit of a situation. Several of the crew have been captured. We’re just devising a plan to get them back.” Hilderbrand explained.GM Budgie
“Capitán, it’s good to meet you, however it would have been nice under different circumstances. Tell me, what do we know?” Rodrigo asked, his voice heavy and metallic as he spoke. The man took in the scene before him, his human eye and the ocular implant blending a mixture of visible light and the broader electromagnetic spectrum in his vision as he leaned on the table, looking towards Captain Hilderbrand.
Not the introduction to a ship that Rodrigo had invisioned to be honest, he figured he’d come aboard on a shuttle, take a little time to introduce himself to the Commander, go get a check in with Medical, let Engineering inspect his implants, that sort of thing. Jumping into the fray right off the bat was unexpected, yet not entirely unknown to the war veteran.
– Saravia, XO –
Hilderbrand sighed deeply. He was a man who looked like he had been through a lot in the last few hours. He rubbed his eyes before responding.
“Well, we were just heading over to the Ragnar to look into what happened there and half my detachment kidnapped several crew members, the Captain included. We don’t know why yet. Imperial Sabre have captured a Commodore. She’s the ranking Intelligence agent in the sector. Again, we don’t really know why but we were trying to find out. We were just about to follow the warp trail from the Romulan ship when you three beamed over.” Hilderbrand said feeding back what he knew trying to remain calm and professional, inside he was seething keen to exact revenge.GM Budgie
“And if we want those crew members back in one piece, I suggest prompt action,” urged Sisnil, looking at the new commander. “Captain Sisnil Zoi, Syndicate consultant. Unwittingly.” He said, a note of bitterness in his voice. “This discussion is pointless. We need to act. Now. The Syndicate does not waste time and the files I was asked to look into indicate this is a Syndicate abduction. Dradvia-” he stopped himself and took a breath, “Everyone that was taken is in grave and immediate danger.”
~ Zoi
If his ocular implant could impart emotion it would be the disappointment that was visible on his brow. He listened to both and exhaled slowly, turning to Sisnil, the man who seemed to be all action and said with his deep metallic voice, “Pleasure to meet you I’m sure.” Before turning to the Captain and saying “So we are heading to investigate and the only thing we have to go on is a warp trail, missing crew including a high ranking intelligence agent? Que marabilloso…”
He thought for a moment, turned to Sisnil, his voice imparting a sense of irritation at the man as he said, “Do you think we’re in some holo-novel? You want to act, tell me, what does that look like? Go in guns blazing? Try to infiltrate and sneak around? Give me a plan to work with rather than bluster about what we have to do. Of course they’re in immediate danger, no one is abducted to go to Risa.” He said, knowing his words would likely piss off the man but he hoped it would also stir him to be more useful than “lets go!”
–Saravia, XO
Sisnil huffed impatiently. “I already gave a plan, your royal tardiness.” He said, smashing his fist into the table, “and if you don’t hurry up, they’ll be a lot worse off than dead!”
~ Zoi
Hilderbrand raised an eyebrow at that. He felt that Sisnil had truly overstepped the mark. Personally he found Sisnil insufferable and completely ridged unwilling to work with others. He held his tongue though, he was now among superior Officers.
“Forgive me then, my hearing just isn’t the same in a pattern buffer and the sounds of being molecularly reconstructed is rather loud one might say.” He replied, understanding that he indeed had missed parts of the meeting, but being informed was something that Rodrigo enjoyed and just ‘going with a plan’ he knew nothing about, especially one from such a savory and upstanding character, rubbed him the wrong way. He turned to Hildebrand, “Where do we stand, Capitán?”
–Saravia, XO–
“Great, waste more time. I’m sure the mutilated corpses of your crewmates will thank you.” Sisnil hissed, snatching his PaDD. He’d already created a pathway into the main computer. A quick glance at a new personnel file and he hid the ever so slight trace of a grin. He stood, shoulder checking Saravia on the way out, muttering a crude Orion name-calling word under his breath as he did.
Then the real work began. The lucky thing for him was, everything was computer controlled these days. Including cybernetic body parts. With a few extra lines of code added to something strategically placed during his shoulder check, Saravia would soon be having some difficulties controlling his cybernetics. Nothing harmful, but it would delay him.
Using his pathways into the main computer, he locked out the bridge’s control systems, rerouting all control to his PaDD. He took his comm badge off and set it somewhere it should take a whole to find and hid himself away. Then pulled up helm controls and set the ship to warp in the direction of the warp trail.
~ Zoi
Sisnil’s commands worked and the computer was locked into his control. The engines began powering up, it was about to jump into warp when power went out across the ship completely. None of the commands work. The Wolverine was going nowhere fast.
GM Budgie
McCallister had been silent, listening to the childish back and forth from individuals who seemed more concerned with being in charge than for finding a solution. When the power went out, she cursed softly. She immediately ‘looked’ at the ship’s tactical systems. Everything was dark. The glowing blue eyes rolled in a fashion that indicated she was less than impressed with their progress so far. But, as she was a Tactical Officer and no one had included her in their pi$$ing contest (thankfully), she kept her thoughts to herself; focusing instead on trying to access the last tactical scans before the ship went dark.
The lights flickered, the room dark, then as soon as they were gone the emergency lights flickered on. The dim lighting more than an annoyance as Rodrigo turned to both Hildebrand and Sisnil rubbing the orbital area around his ocular implant as one might rub the socket around an eye. Looking to Hildebrand he said, “As the ranking officer and in the absence of the Captain I am assuming command of this vessel. You’re off the hook.” He turned to Sisnil and said, “It seems we have enough time for you to tell me the plan hmm?” He said as he pursed his lips a little before tapping his comm badge, =/\= Engineering why are my engines powering up, then down, and now my lights are flickering? I’ve been onboard for 45 seconds and already I’m filled with confidence.=/\=
–Saravia, XO–
This wasn’t Sisnil’s fault, so he chose to say nothing about his exploits. “That warp trail is getting cold. We need to follow the transport trail and from there, follow. The. Warp. Trail.” He said it like he was talking to the dumbest person alive. “Then find a way to disable the warp field, something that useless engineering department should be able to do if my one man can, and then give me the computer system so I can hack in and disable their systems.” He paused for a moment then gave Saravia a withering look. “Do I need to explain it again, or have you got it?”
~ Zoi
Rodrigo listened and saw the glare, brushing it off as he replied “Ah so your cunning and ingenious plan that you were far to reluctant to repeat is to follow standard operating procedure that is taught to the cadets in their first year of the command program. And to sprinkle in a little hacking for good measure. Am I to assume as well that you’ve already gotten into our computers? You seem so eager to have access and you don’t strike me as the sort to ask permission first.” He said turning to face Sisnil fully, his voice more metallic as he was more clear with his orders, “You want to go chasing them? Help the engineers find out why we lost power and of course, who gave the order to get under way, I’d like to have a word with them.” Rodrigo said, his mouth flat and his one remaining eye cold and trained on the pirate.
–Saravia, XO–
“If it’s so basic, then why are we having a discussion about it instead of DOING it?” Sisnil insisted. “I don’t demand permanent access, just so that I can do what I do best. That is why I am contained here, not that you would know in your aforementioned 45 seconds aboard.”
He gave Saravia a look like, Do you know ANYTHING? “I’m not an engineer, I only know the basics of actual mechanics. I’m a computer technician. I can shoot things and write code. Not go be a grease monkey. Make the guys who gave their entire lives for it do that.” He ignored the bit about who gave the order under the guise it simply wasn’t relevant.
~ Zoi
Rodrigo pointed upwards with a semi robotic finger and held it there as he said, “The lack of power might be why we’re not doing anything right now, and you’ll have to forgive me, when you introduce yourself as ‘Captain Sisnil Zoi, Syndicate consultant’ I don’t immediately think that you know the intricacies of hacking ships. Much like how you don’t know that in my youth I took up ballet.” He said as he lowered his hand and stared intently at Sisnil, lowering his voice and reducing his volume, as one might expect a disappointed father to do, “Every system on this ship is monitored by the computers. I don’t expect you to realign the coils, but getting belligerent with me doesn’t get the engines back online, and it doesn’t rescue the crew. Make yourself useful and either help with the diagnostics or sit down and be quiet while we grease monkeys do some real work.”
–Saravia, XO–
“You don’t understand what the Syndicate will do.” Sisnil said. “Excuse me for not explaining my entire life’s story with no time to lose.” He eyed the man up and down, “Does ballet help you do your job, or are you giving more irrelevant tashak pal?” He asked, using an Orion word for, well, what comes out of the rear end of a bull.
He sat down with his padd, irritated Saravia actually had a point. “I do my job, you do yours.” He said, and then, returning the controls to the ship with a few quick taps, he ran the ship’s diagnostic software telling it to print (in the programming sense) results to the PaDD.
~ Zoi
The diagnostic showed that the system was hit with a powerful emp just before warp. The kind that would be used by someone to rendered a ship inert for a prolonged period of time. Sisnil could postulate that this was a deliberate act to allow a ship time to escape.
“If the Syndicate is anything like the Dominion I have an idea, and time is of the utmost importance. As for the ballet? I’m absolutely feeding you a line. Never danced a day in my life. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to go roll up my sleeves. Let me know what you find hmm?” Rodrigo replied as he indeed rolled up his sleeves, revealing a primarily robotic left hand and an augmented right one. While he hadn’t been gifted any weaponry or such with his augmentation, he did have a few tricks like an older multi-functional tricorder, some basic engineering tools he would always have some ability to get work done.
–Saravia, XO–
GM Budgie=/\= Engineering, the ship was hit with an emp wave. Get that thing in shape, ASAP =/\= Sisnil said. He looked for any other hints, anything to get the ship moving faster.
~ Zoi
As Sisnil searched he came to a dead end. The engines were down and the warp core was out due to the emp. It was going to be a while before the ship was back up and running again. Sisnil would realise that someone must have let off that emp. But who? If he thought about it, the only suspects really were the marines that joined them from the Starbase.
GM Budgie
Tealor had been listening to the back and forth, he was a doctor not a strategist, his thoughts were more on his staff that had gone missing. The conduct of the officers in the room was something that would need to be discussed at a later time. He continued to listen in hopes that he would think of something
Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S Wolverine“Who all joined the ship at the starbase?” Sisnil asked, trying not to sound accusatory. No one would answer him if they thought he was going to turn around and accuse them of disabling the ship.
~ Zoi
“The Marines were the last ones aboard.” McCallister said flatly. “But if you are thinking internal sabotage, you should also consider a space mine. Most civilizations have or had those kinda things… drop it from your ship and it floats in a spot until a certain time or proximity. Seems a much less convoluted way to disable the ship than trying to smuggle an EMP field generator on board. Just a thought.” It was an old adage, but one she had seen proven time and time again. K.I.S.S. … keep it simple, stupid. The more convoluted a plan gets, the more ways it has to fail. But hey… Stranger things had certainly happened.
McCallister, Tactical Officer
