ensign tonav walked his way through the halls of the wolverine. he had seen starships like this one before, neve did he think he would be called to inestigate romulans. suddenly his mind shook him awake he had been so lost in his thoughts that he barely missed the science labs. steping into the lab he made his way to lt castles office before knocking on the door.

Alas, in this design, there was no office for the CSO or really, much segregation for the science lab offices at all. Just one room, somewhat rectangular with what looked like regions where walls could come in or shift to form modular work areas. Surrounding much of the lab’s perimeter were narrow rows of plants. Much of it was floral and evidently from more than one world. The mixing scents were mild and non specific, but it did take away a lot of the strict ‘lab’ atmosphere. Several people milled about the lab, notably a pair of twin humans, probably the shortest Klingon Tonav had seen, and a Ferengi. A Vulcan woman in civilian garb was at one of the module areas as was a young human woman with tied back auburn hair bearing Lt pips. She was puzzling over something on a screen that was not easily visible to Tonav. A slim finger came down at one point and tapped at the screen embedded in the lab table.

As Tonav approached she looked up, blinking back what thought she had to study Tonav with a slight tip of her head. Glancing down then back up quickly she said, “Ensign Tonav? I heard you were aboard. How did you make out in medical?” Turning she slid off the stool she was on. Brushing her hands from imaginary dust she reached out her hand to shake hands but then stopped half way when she caught the sight of his ears. “

“I have been cleared for duty still have to do my pysch eval though. but being in the sciene labs reminds me of the ones back home on vulcan iv. much different research though.” he said “astrology and astrophysics are my strong points if you have any projects there or romulan tech as i have studied some”

“I’m surprised you didn’t do both at the same time as the doctor does double as the counselor,” Darklis said. She did express some surprise at his remark. “Truly? You have such a green thumb there in your labs?” She closed her eyes and shook her head just a touch back and forth. “Green thumb. Sorry, inadvertent pun.” Turning to one side she gestured to a nearby stool. “Please, sit. Let’s chat.”

She stepped back and slid back onto her stool. “Astrology. Astrophysics. Romulans. That is quite a mix. Tell me, how did those disciplines come together? The stars are pretty vast. What do you want to accomplish when stargazing?”

“its a long story my parents were starfleet however I was raised on vulcan iv by the ambassador so I learned from the best vulcan scientists.” “i also traveled to the romulan homeword on research assignments and to ensure peace between our homeworlds basically make sure they were not building planet distroying weapons” he said “but as for starfleet its what my parents wished for me to do”

Darklis listened. She wished she had learned from the ‘best’ or felt capable of this. Pushing that depressing thought aside she perked at his travels. He was very well traveled. “How did you ensure peace?” she asked “That seems more something an ambassador would do. Are you part of those corps?” she inquired, but then caught his last statement.

Something his parents wished him to do. That was a touchpoint for her, though if she had done that she’d be at home with the clan essentially being techno-gypsies. Which, in her estimation was kinda fun. She could do that, had learned it, and with her computer skills could enhance it. Her parents and extended family wanted her to do that for the betterment of the family. And it would have been right to do so. So why did she leave? Well, more than to be a black sheep anyway. “But is that what you wished to do?” she asked. With such a past it seemed Starfleet and astrophysics was a step down. A big step down.
