OOC: This is the equipment listed in the intelligence file sent over to you all. The Starfleet Admiral has nothing to do with the Romulans. Intelligence sources have listed the equipment as something that the Romulans are known to have. I hope that makes sense? Do let me know if you want further clarification!

“Hmmm,” DC said as though that were an intelligent response. “They have a tactical option when utilizing stealth to get in and disable a ship. Really, they don’t need that to do it. If they seriously can beam in to a ship they don’t need that to take out a ship. Any detonation would do it in a critical area. Or enough troops in a critical location. The question is how would they seriously just sidle up to us, beam in undetected and do that? I mean don’t we have safeguards against that sort of remote beaming in?”

She looked to Lovejoy. She was the engineer who would maintain said systems. “If it was that easy the Romulans would have done that long ago.”

“Agreed.” She replied. “However, the romulans might’ve already done so, like you had said they would’ve done that a long time ago. But with the safeguard in place no one can beam on and off ship without the safeguard is down. That’s really the only way.” She added next.

“Was it down?” T’Pris asked.

“What would it take to bypass that?” Darklis asked as a follow up question to Lovejoy. She glanced to Cash and T’Pris. “I know the level of computer firewalls that are in place and they can’t simply be switched off from outside without raising a hellish amount of alarms. Someone would have to have done that from the inside.”
“A spy?” Cash said. “Well paid I hope.” DC gave him a ‘look’. “Just saying,” he replied to it. “They’d need serious security levels to do it though.”
“Unless it came from the transporter controls?” Darklis asked, looking at the others. “Would they need to disable the system to beam someone out as well? Or just in from outside? Does transporter control administer that?”

T’Pris waited to hear the answer as this was outside of her expertise, she had no idea how this would work.

“Well as the Chief engineer. I would say by bypassing the whole thing would make it difficult like one of you guys have said, they must need a high security clearance to make it switch off. It won’t be shut down all that easily. Like you have stated. So the only way they would’ve taken it down would’ve been using someone high security clearance.” She stated.

DC tried to recall what she knew of protocols relating to computer use. Her eyes narrowed in thought as she worked out those ideas. “Even that is difficult.” Did she say guys when Cash is the only guy there? Seriously? “The computer is aware of our location on the ship. If I had the XO’s clearance and used it on Deck 5 the computer would flag it in knowing that the XO is actually on the bridge. Or, alternately, if they used clearance of someone not rostered and not registered on board, again, it would flag it and, depending on protocols and what was being asked, could outright deny the access or state it as pending.” Taking a breath she said, “Which leaves collusion or collaboration. An inside job as my father would say.”

“Hmm okay.” T’Pris said as she considered that. “Someone that knows how to circumvent it then.”

“Which, as you have said, the Romulans are good at doing.” Her middle fingernail tapped on the table. “In playing detective would it be easy or hard to narrow down who might be compromised in that crew with an investigation?”
Cash reached out and halted her tapping. “Aren’t we getting ahead of ourselves? In any situation you follow the latinum. Or the girls. Or the skeletons in the closet. Rule of Acquisition .. one of the unnumbered ones. If they don’t want to make the deal, bribe it or go around it. We have the theory but we are hardly in a position to get the information about another crew to that detail.”
“You really know how to ruin a girl’s fun,” DC said. “But you are probably right. We should be happy with making a probable hypothesis for how it may have happened. The who is in the realm of security.” She was about to tap again then stopped when she caught Cash’s eye. “What about the rest of you? Is there any other suppositions? These technologies were obviously made for a sneaky purpose as they are covert rather than overt.”
