T’Pris nodded, gave a small smile as she sat up to follow the doctor to the CMO’s office. “That would be appreciated, thank you, Doctor.”

“Of course,” Dradvia said genially. She led the woman across Sickbay to a short hall and to the left. “That’s his office right there. Welcome aboard ma’am.” The young doctor disappeared back into the main bay.

“Thank you, Doctor, I appreciate the welcome.” T’Pris said as the younger woman slipped past her and disappeared around the corner. T’Pris hoped she would connect better with the CMO. He did seem friendly, though it wasn’t that Dr. Dradvia wasn’t friendly, she just hadn’t been able to find a way to connect with her she supposed. She reached up and rang the chime to the CMO’s office.

“Enter” cam a calm voice from within the room.

Talor looked up from the book he was reading. “Ah Comin Doctor” he said motioning to one of the two leather chairs in front of his desk. “Can I get you something to drink?” he queried as he moved to the replicator and made his 3rd cup of green tea for the day.

“If by the smell that is green tea, that would be sufficient, thank you.” T’Pris said as she moved over to one of the indicated chairs and made herself comfortable.”Just black, please.”

Smiling widely Tealor nodded in agreement and ordered a second tea. “Ah, another tea drinker excellent.” he said moving toward the seat next to hers, instead of the one behind his desk. Setting the tea down in front of her he relaxed back into his own chair and crossed his legs. “So Dr, tell me a little about yourself.” he said pulling up her service record and profile..

T’Pris took a moment and picked up her tea before she began to speak.
“I graduated from the Vulcan Science Academy before I joined Starfleet and majored in Astrometrics and Stellar Cartography. My one and only station then was the USS Valkyrie, and I was doing well I thought. Vulcans are big on planning one’s life out and following that path. Then mine took a turn on one of my last missions. We had come across an alien species on a Ferengi smuggler ship, I believe it was. According to the philosophy Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations, I tried to communicate with the creature as it was taking energy from our warp core and was putting the ship in danger. I got more than I bargained for, as the creature was so psychically strong that it burned out part of my para cortex. I was successfully in communication though and at the creature’s request we took it ‘home’. I received a commendation for that mission but it changed me. I was lost without my natural Vulcan control of emotion. So I resigned my commission and returned to Vulcan where I worked with healers to come to terms with my new ‘normal’. During that journey of discovery I became fascinated with emotion in any beings, including Vulcans, as we do have them. I returned to Starfleet and got my doctorate in Counseling, Psychobiology and the Neurosciences. I served again on a few ships but it wasn’t the same.” She shrugged. “I retired, returned to Earth and spent the remainder of my time in research studying the biological basis of behaviour and mental phenomena. It was why I was chosen for this mission.” T’Pris smiled wryly at the CMO, “Now you know most of my story, in Starfleet anyway.”

Taking a long sip of his tea he smiled and listed to her recount her experience. “Fascinating, you have had a lot in such a short amount of time. I imagine losing control of your emotions was , for lack of a better word, frightening. I know when I went to my peoples home world for the first time the whirlwind of thoughts and emotions had been very hard to take in.” he said as he crossed his legs. “How is your control now? “

“Frightening…yes, I can say now it was frightening but at the time I had no idea what it was I was experiencing. I was overwhelmed. Going back to Vulcan helped immensely. At first the Adepts at Gol were not sure how to help me but they assigned an Adept to me who with the use of meditation finally helped me to accept the emotions that I was feeling and to learn what to do to work through them. I think I was more like a small child at first, with emotion that I did not understand.

Now when I find myself experiencing an emotion that feels overwhelming I take the time to meditate, work through what the emotion is, why I am reacting that way and what would be the best way to respond.” She paused as she finished her tea and looked at the Doctor curiously.
“You were not raised on Betazed?”
