The following announcement appeared on all terminals…

=^=Ladies and gentlemen of the Wolverine, it’s been far far too long since I’ve thrown a party. That, however, is about to change. Holodeck 3 at 1800 hours is open to all for the formal meet and greet. There has been far too many shake-ups in the crew and we need to get to know each other as a good family does. Uniforms are discouraged. Come meet your new family.

Commander Alita Claire=^=

At 1800 on the dot, Alita entered the event space for about the 100th time that day and glanced around again. She had chosen a rambling bar situation. It was large and full of many standard bar accoutrement. There was your standard long bar against one wall. It held many types of alcohol for many different federation species and could certainly drive a crowd to distraction, that was her intent for the night. There was a space set with many old style arcade type games surprisingly found on many planets throughout federation space. There were darts and even horseshoes out on a veranda. The food was definitely under control and she had it set on the other end of the event space. She had left the middle of the space basically open for dancing, mingling, or whatever anybody else decided to get up to. The music would be handled by whomever decided to throw coins in the old style jukebox she was able to replicate. She would have to talk to Uncle Kord, or did her brother have the damn jukebox? She really needed to bring that thing aboard ship. Sighing she toured the space one more time and decided it was as good as it was going to get.

In the casual attire requested T’Pris entered Holodevk 3 in a comfortable pant suit combo with her ebony hair pulled back into a relaxed pony tail instead of its regular chignon at the nape of her neck.

Her eyes roamed over the bar scene and noted it was of the usual human decor, very different of a Vulcan establishment of the same venue. She noted Commander Claire standing in the middle of the room, surveying it.

“Good evening, Commander. I am Dr. T’Pris, Civilian Consultant. I must thank you and your crew for my welcome. The Wolverine is a fine ship, smaller than the ones I served on in the past but I must say it seems to have been instrumental in the perception of closeness I sense among the crew.” She said as she walked to where the Commander was standing.

Alita had been looking over her shoulder when The other woman entered. No matter how hard he tried, Diaz was bound to spill something and this time at least it was before the party proper started. Turning she smiled at T’Pris.

“Oh, you’re so very welcome. I love to do this a few times a year just so we can all catch up and see each other in our not working situation as it were. There’s been so much going on lately that I think we all just need some time to get to know each other again. I think of this ship is a family and I’d like to keep that atmosphere until it’s not a good idea anymore. As long as I’m here, I hope it will always be a good idea. Make yourself to welcome and enjoy everything we have to offer.”

“Thank you,” T’Pris said as she surveyed the bar and food area. Noting a few things that might be to her taste.

Dradvia preferred to be around people than aline, but she wasn’t overly social. This wasn’t optional and it said no uniforms. So she put in a pair of flowing loose pants, and a long loose tunic of some shimmering material. It hid her figure, but was a pretty outfit. She pulled her hair half back, something simple, and let her hair drape so it half hid her ja’risia.

She didn’t want to go though, to socialize with all those strangers, but it was expected. As she was getting ready to leave she remembered what Sisnil said. So she stopped at his door and pressed the chime.

When he answered she rushed out nervously. “ThereisasocialgatheringthatIhavetogotobutdon’twanttogoalone. Willyougowithme?”

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

Sisnil blinked. As soon as he opened the door, he was hit with a barrage of words by a nervous looking Dradvia.

“Come inside.” He said. He let the door shut, stopped by his closet, then stepped into the bathroom. When he came out, he looked downright roguish, wearing a long-sleeved shirt with a brown vest overtop made of some kind of faux animal skin, long black pants that were fitting but not skin tight, and athletic shoes. He’d also run something through his hair.

“Let’s go,” he said when he was ready, and walked down the hall with her. “Where are we going?”

Dradvia blinked. Whoa. What was she thinking? “The holosuite. The XO put this together.” She got on the lift. After a moment, “Thank you.” She really was uncomfortable going to these things. At least she knew Sisnil. She knew Dr. Tessan but he was her boss.

Before they walked in she spoke again. “You look nice, Sisnil. Thank you for doing this.” He could almost feel her stomach churning. Dradvia looked around. She headed in the very opposite direction of the bar. Why was it some universal norm that gatherings needed alcohol?

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

Sisnil’s hand brushed gently against hers. Just barely a touch. And then there was a wash of calm over her. The touch wasn’t necessary, but Sisnil found it helped sometimes. “Of course.” He said, shrugging. “You asked.”

DC came to the party. It was not 18:00 but somewhat after that; real time and party time were two different creatures in at least two separate universes. She had a floral summer dress, sleeveless, slipper like shoes with a matching pattern on them, her middle length auburn hair free. She had read the invitation and was delighted to be out of uniform socially amongst others of the crew. While she was still getting to know people and feeling just a tick off the shy portion of the shy meter, DC was used to being around people and a gathering didn’t daunt her at all. While she wasn’t quite in with the local grapevine yet, Cash certainly was, and had told of the different alcohol’s being served there - it was hard imagining a Ferengi with a passion for alcohol and a bottle collection - but he also had mentioned, when he wasn’t inviting her to get drunk with him, that there were games including horseshoes. Seriously? The atmosphere did look to be a catch all for people to meet as many of the comfort place boxes as possible; she would have thought something more medieval would have been fun. But this wasn’t her party and no time to be the party critic; she had not even drank anything yet!

She did still feel like the new kid on the block. The invitation implied there had been a lot of crew changes recently. Maybe that was a good thing. It put many of them on equal footing. It was always hard to be the ‘one’ new kid on the block, but when there were more then it was either something like a drink around the table camaraderie, or like a fifth grade dance with the boys on one side of the room and the girls on the other and everyone too shy to cross that line. She recognized the XO at once; she was hard not to miss. Dradvia and Sisnil; the former she had seen in sickbay. The latter she had heard about but not seen; it was hard to be a ‘civilian’ on a ship and not stand out and here there were two and that prompted the ‘talk’ squared. While civilians at the DI or even on the Matrix were commonplace it was like a cat at the dog pound when it came to Starfleet. Glancing around she didn’t see any of her other team beyond T’Pris there yet. She was a little disappointed in that. Some familiar faces was always nice.

She headed straight over to Dradvia and Sisnil. “Hello,” she said. As she sort of knew Dradvia from her visits there for her treatments, she didn’t know her well but thought that her ja’risia was stunning on her. That was something she had to look up after a visit there. Sisnil, shorter than she and nervous looking, had red hair enough that would make him stand out in a crowd. Quietly she envied that color of hair, though not quite the pale complexion that often accompanied it. Her people was usually pale enough. She had never known a nervous telepath. Not thinking whether this might make him even more nervous she shot out her hand. “Hi. I’m DC. One of the resident egg heads.”
- Darklis, CSO

Alita saw the small gathering forming and grabbed a tray of hors d’oeuvres. She made her way over and smiled broadly.

“Welcome, I’m glad to see you’ve made it early. I think I have a little something here for everyone. Please, help yourself if you’re hungry. I know our bar looks like a big old tiny scary alcoholic thing but, I have many sparkly waters and fruit juices from all over known space. Maybe if you get me drunk enough I’ll tell you about interdimensional packing next time we meet.”

  • Alita, XO/MO

David strolled in, wearing a midnight blue light jacket over his grey Starfleet Academy college shirt, and raised a hand in greeting as he saw the congregated group. “Sisnil, Commander,” he smiled at the two he actually knew already. “Lt. Castle, it’s good to finally meet you - welcome aboard.” He glanced over at the other two. “Dr. T’pris, likewise. And I don’t believe I’ve met you yet, Ensign?”

Commander David Morris
Commanding Officer

T’Pris nodded to the new arrivals as she wandered over to the bar and helped herself to a juice before she headed over to the food table and picked up a plate which she began to fill with some fruits, vegetables, crackers and cheese.
