Hopping up onto the biobed she lay back and relaxed, or tried to.

Engaging a scan in relation to her nervous system as compared to the original would show a yellow line hovering on a graph quite distinct from the ‘norm’. Comparing it to how it was once she was rescued and treated it was once a much greater deviation from the norm. It has come down quite a bit but it was still not right or in a ‘green’ zone of a normal range.

As she waited while Tealor read she took a couple of deep nervous breaths. As she lay she felt a tremor in a couple of her fingers on her left hand and she clenched her fist to try to get it to subside.

His face was rather stoic revealing little of what he was thinking as he read the summary report. There were a few moments where a sadness broke through the mask briefly, though it was unclear if it was related to her or something deeper from his own memory. Is eyes shift several times from the pad to the bio bed, he then checked a few things with his tricorder although the bed provided the information he needed, old habits seem to take over more often than not. “Thank you Lieutenant,” he said with a warm smile. “Looks like you are doing ok Medically you are cleared for duty. ” he said not wanting to air her personal business around the room. He waved his hand in a motion towards his office. “If you could join me in my office briefly I would like to have a brief conversation. ” he said waiting for her to come along side him. “I like to take a moment with each new member of the crew.”

Darklis’ brain did a double take and with it her lips nearly went with it in nearly saying ‘wait, what?’ She had expected to have a kind of ‘well we have to take you but you’re on probation big time’. Her head turned to the doctor, not sure what to say in response. But then the invitation to his office. ‘Ah, here is the ‘but’’ she thought, rising to a sitting position. Twisting and letting her legs side off the side of the bed she followed suit. Her boots on the deck felt loud. “Of course,” she said, mentally trying to fathom what was coming. Surely she had just gone through the physical portion. The counselor portion was yet to come and this was it. She was not going to be sent back home, not like this. She’d take a dull data entry spot in a backwater armpit of the Federation before doing that. She looked at the open door to the office and took the lead, moving resolutely toward it, but, curiously, looking around once she entered. What would an office like this be like? Photos? Pictures? Heirlooms? A set of holos for his snail collection? Or, with the way that he related to the ensign, was there a ‘casting couch’ there with notches in the arm of his conquests?

OOC: LOL Sorry for the occ but that was funny. Since I’m ooc just wanted to say how much I appreciate your posts I’m enjoying them.
OOC: Thanks! :)

IC:
Following her to the office she seemed confident enough he wondered how much of that was a mask on her part given her current situation. Stepping into his office he moved past her to the replicator and got himself a coffee.

Darklis looked about. A paltry set of photos and a couple of chairs. She made a face. Her father’s small bar fridge in his worskshop had more family clutter on it than this. It was .. a blank datapad. Letting out a light sigh she reined in her inner snoop and focused on the chairs.

He had not had much time to decorate his office much since he had spent most of his time getting to know the crew better. A rather naked room greeted them as they entered. A bookshelf behind him had a few pictures of him with various people which were likely family or close friends.

“I’m afraid I have not had much time to decorate, please Lieutenant have a seat. “ He said motioning to one of two cosey looking leather chairs. “ Can I get you something to drink?”

Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S Wolverine

“I’m good, thanks,” she said absently as she took the closest chair, sinking into it just enough to get that ‘that’s nice’ feel to it. “I ate not long ago. And please, call me DC. It is a little less alien to the lips of others and has a nice flow to it.” Her hand moved along the arm of the chair. It felt like leather but didn’t quite have the smell of the real thing. If it was the doctor would likely have a rap sheet to boot with that sort of thing being against the law for centuries. “You should take time out to do that,” Darklis said, leaning forward and squinting at the photos. “Where were you there?” she asked, pointing toward the top right photo.

He gave a nod in agreement , “DC it is then” he responded looking over to the picture. Why did people always seem to pick that picture, though it made sense it was the least generic photo Elara and he had just got done with their engagement party and were quite drunk. His smile remained but his black eyes generated a brief sadness the only showed for a moment. “That is Elara and I after our engagement party in Paris. She was an amazing woman” he noted thinking back on that night. After a few moments he shook off the thoughts and then turned around and took the other leather seat next to her.

Darklis caught the ‘was’ and the pensive look that was there and then gone again. “Paris,” she said. “I was there once. The Daystrom Institute had an office there.” Well, much more than an office. More like a facility that was a single geodesic tower above ground and a sprawling pyramid facility underground. She hadn’t gotten ‘out’ much. It was fall then. Golden leaves were dripping like a slow leak from the trees. The quiet burble of the Seine River was a peaceful interlude in the otherwise tempest going through her mind. She liked it there even if it was a short stay. A shudder ran through her as she recalled her departer three months later in the winter amidst a blowing storm and the icy needles of snow that pelted her face as she dashed to the shuttle. “Elara is a nice name.” Engagement party. That is why it looked spontaneous and alive. Not quite the student of the humanities but she had been around a lot of people and a lot of relationships and somewhere in there DC thought that there was something lost in the doctor. It was not something for her to burst into either. Not her place.

He smiled warmly at the mention of her name, the name sent an odd combination off warmth and love accompanied with tremendous grief that was certainly hard to mask and was overly complex to even explain. He gave her a confirming nod.

The smile was genuine but so was the bucket of emotion that it filled. She knew this was a professional meeting but wondered if he wouldn’t be better to just go into the holodeck, key up a mountainous region and have a good scream to get out what he seemed to need to get out. Or a good climb. Both activities could get things out of a person when the emotion was driving the actions. Were he one of her many cousins she’d not keep quiet. But he wasn’t and figured that whatever happened there that he had had sessions to deal with it, or at least drinking buddies. That was still a thing amongst the fleet? Drinking buddies? Poker nights. Combine them both into a bowling night and let loose. How did he let it out? For that matter, how did she?

She had not retrieved her stuff yet from some locker in some archive she was sure back on Earth. They rather impounded everything to do with the ship. Fortunately, Darklis had been proactive on everything being copied and stored. Hopefully she could access said replicator file for it to spew out the volumes of her life’s story, and that of her family, and friends, and tag-alongs. A fingertip tapped the end of the chair’s arm. It was rhythmic and didn’t suggest impatience - a tune perhaps? She had a million things that were swirling about in her mind like a twister but she let them be and let the twister wind its random path through her brain. She had learned to detach herself from it. Her father helped with that. It was one of the ‘life lessons’ that she had actually taken to heart. ‘Darklis,’ he said, ‘your life will be very busy wherever you go and whatever you do. You can only do so much. So do what you can and don’t worry about the rest. The rest will take care of itself.’ While she didn’t quite think the last was accurate, she did feel that in her position that the ‘rest’ she could eliminate by virtue of that charming thing called delegation. It wouldn’t decorate her cabin or do her taxes - well, maybe that - but work wise it would blow the dust off the list pretty quickly.
- Darklis, CSO

He smiled warmly at her, “So as far as medical goes, you have been keeping up with your treatments which have been going very well. As far as I’m concerned as long as you keep up with them there is no reason you can’t do your job while doing it. Your mostly healed” he noted verbally while he made some notes in his Pad.

She nodded. The treatments were mostly her laying down and trying to be still. Her exercises were based on eye hand foot coordination in the holodeck of negotiating certain trails and exercises along the way. It was suited to her and her competitive streak. At first they had frustrated her with her body failing her at times when her mind had been clear on what it was to do but the mind didn’t properly send the command along. To her, she thought, this event had sharpened her mind and making her drill out the actions she wanted to have happen rather than be a background automation. She would like to think that she had come away stronger, in that avenue at least. “I will, doctor,” she said, meaning it. She had her agenda to not go back in shame.

“Lets continue with the twice a week sessions and see how it goes. Just please if the tremors get worse or you feel you can’t manage your duties, be honest with yourself and me and excuse yourself. Does that seem reasonable?” he asked before switching the conversation towards mental health. He certainly new grief his had kept him focused on other people for a long time.

Darklis was in science, not security. Her mind was fine, as far as she was concerned. Granted others had other thoughts. The tremors were now uncommon and if she had issue at a console voice commands were as effective as touch screens. And, truth be told, she did still have her interface implant that she could utilize. Implanted after her incident it allowed her to use her eyes as command inputs to configured stations. That technology had been present since the early 21st century, shifting from gaming to medical application it had gone out of favor in the wake of voice command, AI interpolations and medical advances that made this more a curiosity. Did it help her work any faster? Not appreciably. “Would you like me to journal tremor activity?”

“That would be helpful at this point given that progress from here out may be harder to spot” he noted flipping the screen over on the desk in front of them. He decided he would change the subject, rip the band aid off so to speak. He leaned back in his chair and took a small sip of his tea. Studying her momentarily.

She thought he would say that. New doctor. New stuff. New needs to know what’s going on and what is ticking in this neurotic time bomb of her nervous system. She gave him an acknowledging nod, mentally thinking whether to write it out or dictate it in her personal log. Which, well, wouldn’t be that personal if he read it, now would it?”

“I’m going to clear up a few questions you may have and they are fairly common among my patients.” he noted looking her in the eyes. “I will not use my Telepathy on you without your consent, I grew up on earth and rather appreciate the concept of mental privacy. ” he said trying to reassure her that her mind was not subject to him but to her.

“A question for another time, Doctor, but my statistical mind is screaming for it to come out - what is the difference in minds between that on earth and on Betazed?” She smiled. “I’ll not ask for a 500 word essay on that. Perhaps something over tea. But please, carry on.”

Taelor chuckled a little at her statement. “I would love to talk through it, ” he noted. “Culturally I more human than Batazoid having grown up in San Francisco, but lets just say that your thoughts are never your own on a planet full of telepaths.” he said shaking his head. ” I would love to talk through it some time” he finally responded to her request. It had taken him years to get used to the brutal honesty and the violation he felt when he was having thoughts about things he would rather stay private.

“Or in a big family,” she said with a small smile and sigh.

“If you requested it I may consider it , however I have found that while it’s an easy path to identifying the problem, there is no short cut for the trust that is often needed to help resolve any issue there may be. ” he looked back to the picture of Elara and smiled inwardly his fingers traced the arm of the chair. “One of the many things I learned from her” he said turning the gaze of his black eyes back to DC. “If I’m stressed I may unintentionally get an emotional read but it is very rare. I would like to ask you a couple of questions if that’s ok with you?” he finished trying to asses how she was responding.

“Let’s just start conventionally then,” Darklis said. Where she came from privacy was a luxury that no one had and no one expected from day one. It had been a totally culture shock to not just experience privacy but that it was expected among the greater populus. And all the more surprising when she said she reveled in it yet did the very opposite. She more or less knew what was coming and shrugged both inwardly and outwardly. “Ask away.” It was what she was there for. As obligatory as it was, Darklis was a social creature who, again, while inside she wanted to claw her way into a cave in the mountainside, that cave wouldn’t have a door. It was a strange sensation to have and a mental battle to figure it out.

“Great” he said with a little excitement in his voice. He loved the process of working with new people and finding out what they liked to do. There was a line between that needed to maintained but a ship this small he would likely be friends with a good portion of his patients. “For the most part I like to meet my patients on a more level playing field that the old couch and chair methods. ” he said setting the stage for what he was about to ask. “When we can get together you can choose the environment so long as it facilitates conversation and casual enough that we can process what we are talking about and private enough that we can talk openly. ” he said leaning on the left arm of the chair and folding his legs. “It can be anything within reason, walking, hiking including the couch and chair. ” Tealor reached over to his desk and picked up the pad again. “What would you like to do for our first official session?” he asked

Dr Tealor Tessan

“You mean like a holodeck scenario?” She grinned wolfishly. “Bumper cars and ice cream. Can’t get to know people much better than that.”
- Darklis, CSO
OOC: Short post I know .. figured more narrative would come out after that ..
OOC: no worries some times short and sweet is need too :)
IC:
Tealor let out a very genuine laugh. “That sound like a blast,” he said tying off his laugh with a slower breath. “It has been a while since i have had Icecream and I can’t say when the last time a rammed a bumper car into a friend ” he noted.

She laughed with him. It was an easy laugh and she looked younger when she did. “It is. Get a football team’s worth of relatives into the mix and it’s utter mayhem with no concern for the others. What do they call that? A grand melee or some such medieval tournament term that is the last man standing?” She studied him. “What do you do for fun?” she asked. It was a direct question not particularly prefaced with any ‘if you don’t mind’. “I thought ice cream was a starfleet staple? Something as indispensable as latinum to a Ferengi.”

It was an interesting choice of interaction for sure, a little fun to ease the tension and some sweet food for the conversation. Tealor’s mind drifted back two when he was a boy. The first fair he had attended had been a 20th century carnival it had been the most fun he had ever had up to that point in life.

Technically Darklis could have mentioned any one of a half dozen things. This simply came to her mind as an immediate response to his question. She had done this with the Matrix crew; a carnival was her favorite holodeck program. Granted that too was borne out of her family association with carnivals and a place where she felt at home in. But hey, what ‘else’ would a large family with gypsy roots be associated with? That and restaurants. “Is there a time when you would like to do this?” She didn’t know if he had open booking at any time with a holodeck but thought that anything would be needed to be arranged, shy of her pulling out a deck of cards to tell his fortune.
- Darklis, CSO

He thought about it for a moment, they would need to book some holodeck time. “How does tomorrow around 13:00?” he suggested. “Would give a chance to have a lunch too.”
