Zekk, fresh from settling into his room which involved counting, double counting and storing his… personal belongings which just so also happened to consist of 1 bar, 100 strips and 309 slips of latinum. Made his was to medical to have his examination. He hoped that like many starfleet medical professionals this one would be a feeemale who didn’t know Ferengi and could convince her too check his lobes. He entered the sick bay… it was small but so was the ship and scanned the room. “Hallo?”Petty Officer Zekk, Son of Quork
Operations Specialist/Helm
USS Wolverine“One moment please,” Rosa said, her back turned toward the door. From where Zekk was standing, the only thing he could see was her long, slightly grey hair flowing down the back of her Star Fleet uniform, a dress variant often worn by female nurses. A biobed hid the rest of her from the hips down at first. Then in a hurried yet graceful motion she turned, carefully swished past the biobed toward the door. This motion revealing all at once both her cybernetic eye and prosthetic leg.
She smiled pleasantly enough as she checked PaDD for a name, “And you must be Mr… Zekk, Son of Quork?”
|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|“That is correct Dorc-tor” Zekk agreed, eyeing the chief medical officer who had taken him by surprise. He wondered how much all the prosthetics would cost, and if it improved her efficiency. He did however learn at the academy three things Starfleet found value in females beyond caring for their male counterparts, never asking their age and never asking how much they would cost. “You may call me Zekk Dorc-tor, my family while proud of me being in starfleet do rather me not so liberally spread their name about.”

USS Wolverine“Very well, Mr.Zekk,” Rosa said, “Please have a seat and we can get started.”
She pointed out an available spot for him on an exam bed.
“Now, is there anything specific you need me to look into? Or are you generally doing well at the moment?”
|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|Zekk couldn’t help but wince slightly in pretend as he settled onto the exam bed, his various aches and pains making their presence known once again. His lobes, especially, throbbed uncomfortably, a constant reminder of the toll his years of service had taken on him… or so hed like everyone to think.
“Well, Dorc-tor,” Zekk began, forcing a strained smile despite the fake discomfort gnawing at him, “there are a few things I’d like you to check on. Firstly, my… lobes,” he hesitated, a flicker of pretend embarrassment crossing his features. “They’ve been feeling rather… tender lately. And perhaps you could take a look at my… joints too,” he added, gesturing vaguely toward his knees and elbows. “All those years of navigating the stars take their toll, you know? but mainly my lobes.”

USS Wolverine“Oh!” Rosa exclaimed, her eyes growing a little wide. “Then hold on for one moment please-“
She rushed over to the nearest replicator and produced for herself a pair of examine gloves and a mask. She slipped them on and soon was once again back beside Zekk,
“So, tenderness in the lobes, joint pain,” she narrated as she typed the information into his file, “Exactly how long has this been going on for?”
Dr. García began a basic medical scan while waiting for Zekk to answer.
|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|As Rosa rushed to prepare herself, Zekk maintained his facade of discomfort, trying to appear as convincing as possible. “Oh, it’s been bothering me for a while now,” he replied, his voice tinged with feigned concern. “I’d say… about a week or so. It’s been progressively getting worse, especially the lobes.” As Rosa began the scan, Zekk winced theatrically as if experiencing discomfort from the examination. “Yes, just there,” he muttered, pointing to his earlobes with a slight grimace. “And the joints… well, they’ve been giving me trouble for a few months. It comes and goes, but lately, it’s been more persistent.”
He kept up the act, hoping Rosa would buy into his ruse and provide him with the relief he sought. Meanwhile, his mind raced, concocting excuses for his supposed ailments, weaving a web of deception to justify his desire for a lobe massage. After all, in Ferengi culture, the health of one’s lobes was paramount, and any opportunity for their care was not to be missed.

USS Wolverine“I notice in your file, it does not mention a history of tympanic infections,” Rosa noted, “And sensitivity to even the scanning equipment, that is an unusual symptom. How often in the last few months have you received oo-mox? And from how many individuals?” She stood at the console, seemingly prepared to answer his answer directly into his notes.
|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|Zekk’s incredulity rang out in the room, his tone laced with disbelief. “DORKTOR!” he exclaimed, his voice tinged with astonishment. “How can you pose such a query to me? It’s akin to me inquiring of you HueMans about your procreation habits and tallying the count!” His mock injuries momentarily forgotten, he focused solely on the absurdity of the question, his Ferengi features contorted in a mixture of indignation and amusement.

USS WolverineRosa swished her hips to the side and raised her eyebrows at Zekk’s outburst of indignation,
“Excuse me, but I will have you know that if there were a human, experiencing an equivalent problem, I would be asking them about their ‘reproductive habits’. Because I’m your doctor, I need to know what could be causing your problem.”
She sighed, and she thought human men were sensitive.
“But that’s fine if you don’t want to tell me, I’ll just have to figure it out another way.” She pulled some equipment out of a nearby cabinet and set it on the table near the exam bed.Among the equipment Zekk would have noticed a needle in a sterile package, labeled ‘Warning: fluid extraction only’.
|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|Zekk’s beady Ferengi eyes widened in surrender. “Alright, alright, you win!” he conceded, a hint of begrudging admiration in his tone. He couldn’t help but reflect on his previous notion that Ferengi females were hazardous with sensitive equipment—a concept that now seemed less threatening than the current interrogation. “I confess, I’ve had no… uh… lobe interactions of any sort with a Feeemale since joining Starfleet,” he admitted reluctantly, his words laced with a mixture of embarrassment and relief. “Are you satisfied now, Dokter?” he asked, a wry grin creeping onto his face as he finally succeeded in warding off the impending medical examinations.

USS WolverineZekk could probably detect the slight smile under Rosa’s medical mask,
“Of course, that is all I needed to know,” she said, logging his response, a few other observations about the interaction for good measure. “You know it is nothing to be embarrassed about. Many of my patients have similar experiences. But you have to compare that to the value of being a Star Fleet officer. I guess it’s kind of a trade-off.”
She wasn’t sure if he’d be open to discussion at this point, but even if she could get him talking for a little bit, she could wrap up the physiological exam as well. And from what she knew of Ferengi it wasn’t difficult to get them to talk.
|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|Zekk felt a wave of relief wash over him as Rosa seemed satisfied with his response. Her calm demeanour and reassurance eased his earlier tension, and he couldn’t help but appreciate her understanding approach. “Thank you, Dokter,” he replied, his tone lighter now that the weight of the interrogation had lifted. He offered a small nod of gratitude before continuing, “It’s just… you know how it is for us Ferengi, always calculating risks and gains.” A faint chuckle escaped him as he leaned back slightly in his chair. “But you’re right, being a Starfleet officer does come with its own rewards.” He paused, considering her words thoughtfully before adding, “And I suppose avoiding a few uncomfortable medical exams is just one of them.” His grin widened as he glanced at Rosa, hoping to lighten the mood with a touch of Ferengi humor.

USS WolverineRosa pulled down her mask and smiled, “I suppose so. But that couldn’t be the only thing you were looking forward to when you joined Starfleet?”
Besides it being a standard psychological evaluation question, Rosa was a bit curious herself as to why.
|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|“My pursuit of profits led me down this path,” Zekk declared, his Ferengi pride evident in his tone. “I have the lobes for operations and piloting; I excel in those areas far more than managing checkbooks and contracts. Besides, I hail from a rather… traditional family. What better way to defy their expectations than by doing something… unconventional,” he mused with a shrug. “Starfleet may not yield immediate profits, but it offers opportunities for long-term gains. It’s all about playing the long game, expanding my network far beyond what any typical Ferengi could achieve,” he explained, a glint of ambition shining in his eyes as he contemplated the vast potential of his endeavors in the cosmos.

USS Wolverine“Unconventional, yes, but that’s not such a bad thing.”
Dr. García pulled out a PaDD, typed a few sentences out and with a swish saved the information. His medical report was finished, just a few more phycological question to get through. She was having a bit of fun, attempting to level with Zekk and adjust the questions to respond to his way of thinking. Though she did it in earnest, not as an attempt to patronize.
“And you have been taking advantage, networking, you mentioned? Have you met any interesting contacts so far?”
|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|Zekk paused, reflecting on his interactions with various crew members, but one stood out in his mind. “Chief Claire is a very interesting woman,” he remarked, his tone contemplative. “She… creates these things called beignets. They’re incredibly delicious, and the replicator simply doesn’t do them justice. I attempted to recreate them myself, using fried Greal worms, but alas, my culinary skills leave much to be desired. Acquiring things and piloting ships, now that’s where my talents truly lie,” he confessed with a self-deprecating chuckle, acknowledging his strengths and limitations with characteristic Ferengi candor.

USS Wolverine“Perhaps I will try some sometime… hers I mean.” Rosa said, “Meanwhile, Mr. Zekk, unless there is something else you require, then you are cleared for duty. Don’t hesitate to let me know if your joint pain flares up again, though. That could be a career-ender for a pilot. I promise no extractions will be necessary.”
|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|Zekk nodded graciously, his demeanor a blend of gratitude and adherence to tradition. “Thank you, Doktor. I shall endeavor to maintain my health, as is customary, and honor our agreement with payment.” With a deft movement, he retrieved one of his own version of the beignets, seemingly oblivious to or perhaps intentionally disregarding her offer to sample hers instead. “There’s no need for further words, Doktor. My Ferengi nature dictates that I settle my debts promptly.” Placing the food to the side, he bid his farewell without waiting for a response, his eagerness to depart evident.

Rosa smiled, nodding with approval as Mr. Zekk set down the pastry. Once he had departed, she let out a small laugh,
“Well, it’s not like Ferengi to overpay for services,” she commented out loud.
