Dr. García, now properly settled into her office, was ready for her first task. She sat at her desk, with her freshly brewed coffee. Pulled up on the console in front of her was ‘The List’. Every officer onboard who was overdue an appointment, physical, or phycological exam. In the absence of a dedicated ship counselor, ‘The List’ was quite long. No matter, Rosa would have that fixed soon.

First name she would cross off was one Lieutenant Alice Spencer, the Chief Science Officer. So, with a tap on her badge she requested

=^= Lieutenant Spencer, please report to sickbay for medical examination. =^=

She took another sip of coffee as she waited for the response.

Alice looked up from her microscope and blew a lock of hair out of her face. It was not a bad time for the call but did anyone get yearly checkups? Maybe the security folks but not science. Science tended to only come when an experiment went awry. Standing up from her console, she tapped her comm badge. =/\=On my way Dr. Garcia=/\=

Five minutes later, Alice walked into sickbay. Looking around the room, she scanned the space for the person that called out to her. The Wolverine was not a huge ship so when Alice found a new face it was probably Dr. Garcia.

Rosa was rather hard to miss in sickbay. Her older-style effeminate uniform was short enough to show off her prosthetic leg. She wore her long hair with tasteful streaks of grey tied back in a stylish bun. One could see her sparkling eyes, quite literally sparkling in the case of her cybernetic one.

“Ah,” she said, catching sight of Alice, “Yes, you must be Lieutenant Spencer.”

“Yes I am,” she smiled back at the doctor.

Rosa walked over, PaDD in hand. “It says here you are overdue for your yearly physical. So please, have a seat and we can get started.” She gestured toward a few empty biobeds.

CMO/CNS|

Alice walked over to the bed and hopped on. “I’m glad to see someone else appreciates looking like a woman,” she nodded to the woman’s outfit. “Why some women in Starfleet choose to walk around looking like the male officers continues to shock me. I mean if you are security I get it. Brawling around in a dress is never the best look for anyone but I have never seen the reason I need to dress like a man for someone to take me seriously.” Alice was in no way a feminist. In fact, she was simply a woman that loved being a woman. It was clear by the way she wore make-up that was minimal but accentuated her light blue eyes and mass of blonde curls that hung loose around her face to just below her shoulders. Alice wore a smile that was friendly and excited to be here rather than apprehensive.

Alice was about 5‘4” so her feet, clad in the knee high-regulation boots, dangled over the side of the bed. Craning her head to the side slightly, she looked at Dr. Garcia. “A year,” she asked almost in disbelief? “I am quite sure it hasn’t been that long…has it,” she let out a small chuckle. Alice didn’t doubt the doctor was correct but had it been that long.

“Well, you are on my list for annual checkups. It’s all automated now so you’ll have to take it up with the computer.” Rosa responded with a little laugh. Afterward she began with a basic scan with her handheld medical tricorder.

“You look well, I’ve seen a lot worse. How are you feeling though, anything I should no about?”

[OOC: Feel free to insert anything significant / surprising I might find as part of the tricorder reading.]

[OOC: Hope you find this fun. If not let me know and I fix my post. ~ Kate]

“Nope,” Alice stated tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. In doing so, however, a strange red mark was visible on her neck. Upon closer inspection, it would be apparent that there was not just one but a series of them that started just below her ear bone and seemed to move back around towards the back of her neck. The irritation on Spencer’s skin did not seem to hurt or irritate her however it was very peculiar in its shape. It was a perfect circle with a smaller perfect circle in the middle of it. They were spaced the same as they moved from her earbone backward. They were far too symmetrical to be man-made but ,nonetheless, they were there and it was up to the doc to guess what it might be.

“Okay…” Rosa said casually, shifting her scan to focus on the area, “How long have these been here?”

She said, gesturing on her own face which marks she was referring to. She continued on with a more focused scan. It would tell about any bacteria, virus, or fungus, just to be on the safe side.

“What,” Alice stated looking at Garcia and seeing her scan her neck. Looking down at her wrist, Alice noticed a red welt and let out a laugh knowing what the woman must have been looking at. “Oh…oh that,” she felt her cheeks get a bit red. “It’s a sucker mark from Harry. Pulling up her sleeve she showed another one on her forearm.

“I have an octopus in the science labs. When I am ignoring him, Harry tends to get annoyed. If he whacks me with his tentacle I get one of these spots but it goes away usually in a few minutes. It doesn’t hurt…just looks odd.” The scans would confirm what Alice was saying. The “spots” indeed looked like a small suction cup mark and would fade within a quarter of an hour.

“Ahh, then nothing to worry about,” Dr. García replied with a smile and a nod, “It is not the oddest animal I ever shared a ship with… When I first came into Star Fleet our pet policy was, I’d say it was almost irresponsible. My first Captain had a pet pigmy tigress” she said, laughing.

“Yes, yes, animals like that are like children, they need attention, stimulation, but I’m sure you know that…”

CMO/CNS|

“So true,” Alice let out a small chuckle. “Henry is less of a pet and more of,” she let her voice trail slightly. The last thing she wanted to call the octopus was a specimen. It would make most people think it was two steps from the dissection table. “Henry is like the lab mascot,” she settled on. “Octopi are highly intelligent. My background is evolutionary biology and chemistry. I have been working on studying Henry’s ability to camouflage himself. My hope is to find applications for cloaking things to match the backgrounds of environments. It’s a hell of a lot easier to study things when the thing doesn’t know it’s being watched “

“I could see that, yes,” Rosa said with a nod, noting the scans and observations on Alice’s file. And since she was here anyway, Dr.García wasn’t opposed to sneaking a little bit of a counseling check in as well.

“So besides your mascot,” she said, “Would you say you have many other friends onboard? Or are you often wrapped up in work?”

|Dr. García,
CMO/CNS|

“It depends. At times things get busy in the labs. When I am busy I don’t mind it but space can be boring. There are long periods of time when nothing is happening and then short periods where you wonder if you are going to live,” she let out a laugh. As a science person, Alice was not usually part of saving the day but it could be nerve-wracking waiting to see it the brilliant tactical maneuver was going to work. “The ship is also on the smaller side so it is like a small town and not a floating city.”

Alice Spencer

“I see, I know what you mean,” Rosa said, nodding along. “I grew up in a small town, well it was small when I was younger, you know how that is. Anyways I know it can be hard especially for a young lady such as yourself.” Dr.Garcia paused and offered a friendly smile.

“Just know that I am here, as a counselor sure, but even if you just need someone to do something with during the slower times. That is if you don’t mind handing around an old doctor.” She laughed at herself for a moment. Maybe it’s because she had just arrived and already was taking a liking to Alice. But it was important, especially on a small ship, to at least try to make friends.

Alice looked at Garcia as if contemplating something before stating. “How adventurous are you?” The smile on her face showed Alice was rather excited at whatever idea was going through her head. “And how soon are you off duty?” It had been a while since she hung out with anyone. It might be nice to get to know someone on the ship and make a friend.

Alice

Rosa smiled in return, intrigued by Alice’s offer. ‘Adventurous’ sounded fun. “Okay. Let me see… I should be done by 18:00. Don’t spoil it for me, but where should we meet?”
