Peter sat on his floor cross legged. He was meditating, calming himself after a restless nights sleep. “So many people that I’ve failed over the years. So many mistakes. So much pain.”, he tried to re-center himself. Tried to find balance but today he was finding it especially hard. Today was his psych evaluation and today was a day that these memories wouldn’t be left alone, it was like his mind, knowing that the past would be brought forward, was helping by catapaulting the saddest and most painful memories forward. Memories that normally he would leave alone. Memories that he buried because that’s what he has always done with the past, “Experience, learn, leave. Let the past be your tutor and nothing more.” that was how he learned to deal with it long ago.

He stood, his over 6 foot frame stood strong, his body in so many ways seemed stronger than his mind today. Well disciplined, strong, he made sure to keep his body ready for every eventuality that he could concieve of in his mind. Then he tested it in the holodeck. If he couldn’t pass his own test then he did it again and again until he accomplished it. He didn’t believe in no win situations. That’s why he knew he had failed to prepare. As he splashed his face with water he thought, “If I had gone into that prepared…” he stopped the thought, he couldn’t change things. He could only move forward.

He dressed in silence. Then headed to the counselor’s office for the meeting that he was least looking forward to… his psych eval. He reached the door and chimed to be let in.

A moment later, the door slipped open and there stood a tall woman with dark curls and a leaf-shaped forehead ridge. “Hello, Ensign; right on time,” she said with a melodically accented voice. “I have something in mind rather than the usual chat in my tiny, tiny office, if you’re game?” she asked, her hazel eyes curious and her deamnour open.

McGarvey’s surprise if any wouldn’t have shown on his face. He took in the Counselor’s appearance and countenance.

“Of course, what did you have in mind, Lieutenant?” He asked with a genuine curiosity and a tiny amount of reticence. He had been preparing his mind and will for one kind of meeting but now Sharise wanted to change the plan; he was ill at ease but unwilling to not allow the change.

Stepping around him, the door shut and Sharise gestured with her head. “Come on, you’ll have to follow me in order to find out.”

Ayla walked to the turbolift at the end of the hall and pressed the call button. When it arrived, she gave Peter a smile before stepping in. “Deck Seven,” she called out. They were on Deck Six, so it was going to be a short trip. She was well aware of his discomfort, but was countering it with her ease. He might be expecting something he wouldn’t like, but she wanted him to know that didn’t have to be the case.
