As they approached one of the portals they would note that the metal frame and door were corroded and the latter buckled in places. It was not done by violence but something else. While it would not easily open and mechanics would be futile a ‘chunk’ of the metal had broken off showing itself to be brittle. The duo could ‘help’ this along where a section of the blast door would break off with some effort.

Beyond it was dark. Lights would show a rough but skillfully carved out chamber that still held crates which were amazingly held into place by fibrous straps; not being metal they were not corroded, though some of the crates being metallic showed signs of degeneration. These were all set up along the walls and rear of the chamber. Some few had broken out from the straps that had failed and floated about in the microgravity. Beyond was a door set within the rock that had been secure but a shifting in the asteroid had crumpled it leaving it ajar enough to pass through. To one side was a long transparent window to what was likely a control room. It was showing stress fractures in it but was not broken. No power sources were detected.

Beyond this door the passage branched - one to further interior and one to the right probably to the control room.

As he and Baker passed through the various places, Remy paid meticulous attention to what the were finding, logging every detail in his mind.

“Whoever ‘ad de idea to make dis place a base of opera-SHONS mus’ no’ ‘ave been de sharpest tool in de box. Between de atmosphere being caustic and de shifting tectonics, I’m surprised dey were able to get dis much of de base completed.”

Indeed. By the look of the corrosion what metals that the Dominion utilized for their ships, while tough on the one side, they looked more prone to being affected by the regions effects.

By all appearances the base looked like it was in the process of being abandoned. There wasn’t much in the way of ‘stores’ there and general inventory of what would normally be at a base was noticeably absent or minimal.

It did however look like they weren’t the first ones to have found this base. Here and there they would find cabinets opened and not closed, or crates broken into. A weapons locker had been jimmied and torched to open it and if there were any contents there when the Jem’hadar left they were now gone.

Remy tapped his comm badge and reported to the the ship.

=^=Boudreaux to de Wolverine. Ens. Baker an’ I ‘ave been explorine de cavern behind de Jem’hadar ship. We found an abandoned base, no’ in very good shape. De mystery is dat someone got ‘ere before us–signs of forced entry on a number of cabinets, broken into crates, weapon lockers. . . . no way o’ knowine if dey found anytine.=^=

Starfleet Intelligence USS Wolverine=^= Remy, can you and Baker perform some forensics of the areas that were disturbed? =^= Bryson asked. The Captain moved over to the Operations station and began running a scan of the area to see if there were any shuttle or warp signatures out of that area. =^= Also, if there’s any logs or data of the sort that you can find, bring it along and maybe we can figure out what they were looking for and if it was found =^=

After an extensive search they did find a computer center chamber but everything but the cabling had been torn out - either by the Jem’hadar or those afterward.

There were no signs of recent activity there - that base had been, by all appearances, deserted for years. However, that said, Alita had returned not long ago with a data crystal taken from the Jem’hadar ship jammed at the entrance of the cave complex.

As for the forensics .. what are you looking for?

OOC: The basics :) DNA & prints can go a long way in mapping out what someone may be looking for (what was forcibly moved vs naturally decayed), plus we would be able to see who else besides the Jem’hadar was in there at one point.

Empty, bare bones, Remy thought as he looked around the room. He looked at the readout on his helmet’s heads-up display. Oxygen level read 94%–pleenty left for a more thorough investigation.

With a sigh, , he pulled out his tricorder and began a more intensive search of the abandoned base. . . . .

Some cabinetry or doors were simply hanging open and empty. Here and there there was discarded small items kicked up in the microgravity of the asteroid.

Some cabinetry and doors had been forcibly opened. Each of those were empty.

One cabinet was yet secure. It was definitely one that they didn’t want anyone to casually get into. It looked like it had been beaten on, attempted to be drilled and phasered but had resisted entry. This was located in the rear of what looked to have once been a control room of sorts, certainly devoid of seating and the consoles and panels had been essentially plundered and skeletal.

Remy looked at the lone cabinet and assessed the various types of damage done to no avail.

When all else fails, go with the ol tried and true methods, he thought. Reaching into a pouch, he pulled out a handful of old style lock picks in pristine condition. This was his own personal set he had received at the age of 12. They had never failed him before and hoped this wouldn’t be the first time.

He blew them a kiss from inside his helmet and set to work. . . .
