Alita entered her quarters and sat in her favorite chair. She just sat there for a few minutes letting everything and all of her thoughts settle around her. Liza her mother’s caretaker had thought her to just settle with her feelings for a bit to calm herself. Liza had always told her that she let life get to her too much without taking a breath. After a bit of that, she checked everybody’s relevant schedules and finally figured out a time for what the captain had requested.

=^=Thienna, Baker, my schedule shows you free at 1400 today. Request your presence for rifle drills and equipment cleaning at 1400 holodeck 3. Let me know if this is a problem. Make it not a problem please.=^=

Aleta’s voice had the air of friendly authority. It wasn’t an order but it was something that you shouldn’t challenge unless it was absolutely necessary. The time between now and then was just enough time for her to actually make a good meal for them. Something she enjoyed doing and a Time killer that would put her thoughts in order.

Baker was reading when he got the call. He had changed into his day clothes, a beige wrap and black work out pants, and had settled in with a copy of Dune as a Klingon opera played behind him. The music was cut off abruptly with the COS’s summons, to which he quickly responded. =/\= Heard. Will report at 1400 for drills. Baker out.=/\= Baker ended the call and went up to get dressed into his gold and black uniform. First phaser drills with Black, and now a rifle drill with Thienna. Alita runs a tight ship on the Wolverine, baker thought, reminding himself just how new he was to the crew. Once he was dressed and ready, he saw he still had time before 1400. “Computer, resume playing.” he said and the symphonic tones of the opera once again filled his quarters.

He was still humming along to the tune when he arrived at Holodeck 3, hitting the door chime to announce his arrival and await entry.

-Petty Officer Baker, Tac/Spec.

The holodeck opened on to an old school gunsmithing shop. It smelled of oil and a warm day. Naturally, there was the small obligatory what one might have called craft services table at one side but that was to be expected with anything Alitadid, she did with style. She was at one end of the shop with a workbench laid out in front of her when he entered.

“Hello, I hope you have come ready to work. I’ve decided we’re going to do this old school. You can’t really depend on machines to do what your eyes and your hands can do a lot better. Besides, you never know when a skill is going to come in handy and you need to keep it refreshed. So go ahead and grab some lunch and we’ll get started as soon as Cal gets here.”

Baker looked around the holodeck workshop and gave a little chuckle. “Well, Ma’am,” he said taking in the antique setting, “You certainly have a flare for the dramatic.” He looked to the spread of food she had laid out for them and opened his eyes, “And a deft hand at cooking I see?” He went over and started at the food as they both waited for Cal.

-Baker, Tac/Spec

“Today I was able to combine two of my favorite hobbies and do some work for the ship. Cooking has always been something that brought me peace. So, I made the bread and most of the desserts. Sandwich meat is sandwich meat and well, I didn’t make that. Holodeck programming has been something I’ve been doing for quite some time and that’s what this is, my latest program”

A few moments later Cel arrived at the holodeck and took a look around. He nodded his approval and approached Alita and Baker.

“Good Afternoon Commander, Petty Officer.” Cel greeted as he approached them. “Historical scenery, Good call.” he smiled as he looked around. He then saw the food.

“Did you make this in your quarters?” he asked Alita.

-Cel

“Of course I made it in my quarters Cel. No need to fall on ceremony here, first names are fine. No, I’m not giving you any more packing tips on how I keep all the flour and everything straight. Those are proprietary Cheron Native packing tips for the extra dimensional qualities and you know my uncle would be very upset if I spilled the family secrets right? Dig into lunch and we’ll get started on the rifle drills in about a half hour.”

Alita herself piled a plate high with salad and cut a few slabs of warm bread from the large loaf, funny how it stayed warm that way. She then buttered the bread and made herself at home at one of the small tables she had erected.

Basil took Alita’s example and helped himself before sitting down at her table to eat. “So,” he said as he finished some of the bread, “Rifle drills? Has something inspired you today, Alita? Or is this just routine for your command?”

-Basil, Tac/Spec

“Suggestion, inspiration, a little bit of everything. I like to make certain that security runs like a well-oiled machine as it were. You just never know when something’s going to come up and on the wolverine everything always comes up.”

Alina finished her sandwich and unwrapped one of the containers of brownies she had brought. There was no peach pie today because peaches were thousands of light years away. Glancing at one of the weapons racks she realized that it looked very bare. Today was only rifle drills but hand-to-hand would be next week.
