Boudreaux (Intel)

Baker furrowed his brow at the voice on the comm before giving a shrug to Black. “And they say I’ve got an accent.” The scot said readied for transport. “With Wr. Boudreaux on the ship, I think we should have someone remain here incase we need help. Sound good Ensign?” At Black’s ascent, Baker was beamed aboard the ship.

Baker never liked the environmental suits. Never comfortable and limited his vision. Still, when they were needed, they served their purpose. When he materialized on the ship, he saw a man he took to be Boudreaux at the controls. He walked over and activated his comm speaker in the suit. =/\=Mr. Boudreaux, I presume?=/\= Baker said, his accent slurring his S’s in SH’s. =/\=Have you managed to get anything off the logs? perhaps an explanation as to why this ship is here?=/\=

Petty Officer Baker, Tac/Spec

“Oui, Petty Officer Baker. I apologize for de informal introduc-SHON, but time is of de essence. I prefer to get de Gambit out of dis corrosive atmosphere, as soon as possible, an’ I’m sure Brys—Capt. Erin feels de same ‘bout ‘is shuttle.”

The evidence shows that the corrosive nature took years to cause that. Any effects to the Gambit would be minimal in this time frame. At least in theory.

The bridge was dark and required lighting to see and get around. As it was it was a standard, decentralized design with the command area in the center, three tubular individual consoles standing from the deck. Aft was a door just to the left of a larger set of tubular consoles with a dark full wall sized display behind. The rest of the bridge was filled out by a third similar larger console set up and forward viewscreen and near the rear an access hatch. To complete the picture there was a quite dead, somewhat desiccated but otherwise intact Jem’hadar soldier floating in the null gravity of the ship. Unfortunately there were no seats; evidently they felt they were unnecessary. One thing they did note was that the metal surfaces looked pitted, old - certainly older than they were, a visible reminder of the corrosion from this part of space. The more ceramic or glassy display portions were, to this point, relatively unaffected though who knew what the metal components underlying it would show.

There was no power to the bridge so any accessing of, well, anything would need to have external power and a prayer that the connections held from there to their data stores.

Remy removed the backpack from his shoulders, pulled out a power cell and began connecting it to the console he was at. “Wit’ de shape dis ship was in, I figured we’d need dis.”

“Wit’ dis corro-SHON, we may ‘ave to try a number of de consoles, before we fin’ one we can connect to.” He reached into the backpack once again and pulled out another power cell. Tossing it to Baker, he added, ‘“ave a go. . . . “

Boudreaux (Intel)

Baker caught the cell and moved over to try some of the consoles. No luck. Eventually he met back up with Boudreaux at an aft console to try.

The best that they were able to do was, after checking multiple consoles, was a single one located at the aft of the bridge. It took some jury rigging as well for each; the tech was not so plug and play on their vessels with starfleet tech. However, it came to life, showering that area of the bridge in an eerie green glow, before the console began flickering then shorted out with a silent sputter.

Another location may render better results ..
Wookiee

As the lights sputtered out, Baker let out an exasperated sigh. “No good.” He said turning to Boudreaux, “We might try down in engineering. It’s possible that the ship would be more receptive there, possibly as a fail-safe. Jem’Hadar were known to be overly pragmatic. It’s possible that, in an instance like this, the ship would only allow essential systems to be restarted, or at least, restarted in a specific order.” Baker was admittedly grasping at straws, but it was the best he had.

Petty Officer Baker, Tac/Spec.

“I don’ tink we are goine to ‘ave any luck ‘ere. Lt. Claire came down wit’ me an’ transported to engineerine.

=^=Alita, dis is Remy. Are you ‘avine any luck down dere. Everytine is corroded all t’ell on de bridge. Petty Officer Bake an’ I are on our way to you.=^=.

OOC: As per the captain’s orders , Alita came down with Remy on the Gambit and beamed to the engine room to try the same thing Remy and Baker were trying from the bridge.)

Boudreaux (Intel)

Alita stubbed her toe for about the third time and let out an exasperated growl half in Cajun and half and who know what language at the moment. Sparks were flying and so was her temper. She had forgotten the frustration of earlier, bridge things were out of her mind at the moment the mission was what mattered. She had also left a message for a meeting with the captain at his earliest convenience.

=^=I have lots of sparkly things shattering and showering all around me. There’s lots of pretty green sparkly lights and stuff. I’m making heads and tails but they don’t quite match yet. Be great to see you gentleman down here soon.=^=

  • Alita, MO/COS

The showering and sparks were only all the more enhanced what with there being no lights apart from what Alita had with her, lighting up the darkness in showers of green and red, though only some of them coming from the tubular display. Most seemed to enjoy being thrown out from the back of the tube near the display where it had eroded. There was evidently some success on her screen in that there was swirling characters mixed in with an annoying third of the display being muddied static. Somewhere in the guts there was a release of plasma that was reacting to the metal and optical connections within. It would dawn on Alita that that could only last so long before the plasma eroded further and a meltdown of the one actual operating display would occur.
- Wookiee

Alita frowned and swore under her breath as she began to work faster.

=^=Mr Boudreaux and company, if you want to lay eyes on the situation I suggest you haul it down here asap. We’re about to experience a first class meltdown.=^=

Alita began attempting to repair the badly damaged display as quickly as possible, Sparks not withstanding.

  • Alita, MO/COS

While computers were computers, different ones, especially Jem’hadar ones were not as intuitive in this need for speed. Slowly she was losing the race, however, here and there things she was doing was noticeably bringing some order to the chaos even as the rear of the console tube was becoming bubbly and hot. Alita was sure that if she didn’t have a suit on that the smell would have been noticeably bad.

=^=Already on de way, cher,=^= Remt replied.

No sooner had the comm ended when Remy’s hands forced the doors to the engineering section open. He stepped into the section with Baker close on his heels.

“Save what you can, ‘Lita. I ‘ave an idea.” Remy began pulling covers off of consoles and started rummaging through them, looking for hard drives of where information was stored. Perhaps if they couldn’t get it here on the ship because of the corrosion, maybe ops and engineering could extract the info while in a better environment and with the Wolverine’s equipment.

Remy’s thought looked to be viable option. Jem’hadar design from captured ships showed a centralized core with decentralized computer nodes that acted as a backup should the primary fail or was cut off. Tricorder readings would show there was one dangerously close to the meltdown where Alita was working from, sparks and plasma slag seeping down to its location.

“Mr. Baker, pull out anytine dat looks like a drive an’ stack it in a pile. We’ll beam it over to de Gambit an’ you’ shuttle.”

OOC: Bit of confusion here. Is this the same planet that Celador is following the around on with the injured Vulcan’s?

Boudreaux (Intel)

OOC: This is a separate location within a grouping of asteroids. It’s not the Myst world that the other group is on.

Baker saw what Boudreaux was doing and gave a swift nod before pulling covers off consoles. He was no engineer but had of course been trained in the basics, and so was grabbing anything that looked remotely important and piling it with what Boudreaux was assembling. As he was doing so, he looked up to Alita to see if she required any assistance. =/\= Anything I can do for you, Lt. Commander?=/\= He asked over the comm as he continued disassembling the ship. He didn’t know who Boudreaux was, but he seemed to be an authority on things. Still, Baker was a little wary of him, and always had the tendency to close ranks when dealing with strangers.

-Petty Officer Baker, Tac/Spec

Getting to the defined ‘one’ - what looked to be a single crystalline dodecahedron with optical cabling at each corner juncture - was going to be tricky and risky. On the upside it appeared that the unit was intact and showed no signs of degradation perhaps because it wasn’t of an alloy origin but crystalline in nature.

Alita nodded, she understood exactly where this was going and thought it was a pretty good plan.

=^=Tear the ship apart. We can assemble everything we need back on the wolverine. We’ve got much better equipment. Next time we do anything like this remind me to pull out an old piece of tech my uncle gave me. I hate Eva suits.=^=

Alita began pulling tools from a pack she had on her back and tearing one of the consoles apart being careful not to disassemble the wrong things. Before long she had helped amass quite a pile in the middle of the room.

  • Alita, MO/COS

Alita’s pile was helping in that it was giving them more room to work to get at what they needed to get at which would need someone to be elbows deep in the console and decking while there was flaring and bubbling and plasma leaks.
- Wookiee

Alita stepped back and looked at the pile they had created and then looked at where they might be needing to go.

“All right gentleman, if it’s a tight space you need to get into then it’s pretty obvious I’m the smallest out of the three of us. So I guess I should wiggle my way in there right?”

  • Alita

Remy looked from Baker to Alita and nodded. “You win, ‘Lita,” he added.

“Notine personal, Monsieur Baker, but I’m sure Lt. Cmdr. Claire ‘as a much more enjoyable wiggle to watch dan you do, no?”

Boudreaux (Intel)

Basil gave Boudreaux an odd look at his comment before moving on. He wondered if there was history between Alita and Boudreaux or if this was he treated all female crew members. No time to worry about it now, however, and Lt. Commander Claire was right, she would be the best to fit in.

It was going to be hot even through the suit. It would do well for Boudreaux and Baker to perform some interference to try to mitigate Alita having any splatter damage from the plasma and bubbling and flaring ..

.. Alita would need to get in there shoulder deep and reach and disengage it blindly by feel alone. Nothing that couldn’t be done .. but tricky.
- Wookiee

Alita assessed the situation several times before deciding on what could be considered loosely a plan of action.

“Okay, this is going to be kind of like noodling for catfish with plasma yeah, great. All right I’m going to try this now.”

With that said Alita slowly made her way towards the object in question.

  • Alita, MO/COS

Alita could feel the heat through the suit and she could hear the suit’s environmental control working to keep up. The flickering brightness of the flares and sparks didn’t help with its lurid green color in the relative darkness of the room.

Her hand made contact with it, the various optical cabling attached to it feeling thin through the glove of the suit. Each one would need to be disengaged from the crystalline unit. After fiddling with the first it appeared that it was seated by a pressure screw - that each one could be removed by exerting a small pressure in and then a quarter turn to the left.
- Wookiee

Alita began working slowly and carefully. She tried not to think about the heat or the ridiculous green light. 1/4 turn after another she worked until hopefully she would unseat the thing and be able to retrieve it and get the hell out of there.

  • Alita, MO/COS

Alita was able to fish out what she thought was all of them with only a couple of close calls - one where a stray gloop of plasma was ejected and scored across her visor - partially melting the plate but not all through. Still the suit did register a micro fracture and slow loss of oxygen, the message scrolling across her display with a countdown of oxygen remaining. Her first tug didn’t yield success, though she did find one more cable that was attached amongst the mess of them already detached.

As Alita continued to work, Basil did his best to assist with interference as she worked to get the necessary equipment free.

Petty Officer Baker, Tac/Spec

That was a job. While gravity was null there in effect so that any ejecta that occurred tended to go in any direction. Baker had to keep himself clear as well as things off Alita .. something that became greater an effort as more of the conduit corroded away.

OOC: Hey, guys! Sorry for the absence. Was finishing up the latest script of my comic coming out next year and needed to step away to focus on that. But should be back now!
OOC: Well how cool is that!!

Remy’s humor belied his true concern for Alita. He stood near her feet, ready to pull her out of the crawlspace in case of an emergency. His gaze kept going from Alita to the components they had collected in a pile. There had to be some useful information in there somewhere. That’s why he wanted to get it back to the Wolverine, let engineering, science, and ops go over it all in a more conducive environment.

There was also the issue of the cavern behind the Jem’Hadar ship that needed investigating . . .

Boudreaux (Intel)

At last the unit came free into Alita’s hand …
Wookiee

“Hell yeah, that is how we do it on the Wolverine!”

With that done Alita slid down wanting to get as far away from that situation as possible. She knew that her suit was registering a microfacture and blinked a few times to be certain she was reading correctly.

“Boudreaux, Baker, I need to get the hell out of here. My suit is registering a microfracture and I’m losing oxygen. So let’s go. Get these components and I think we’re done.”
