The camp was not an overnight camp but looked to be not just a base camp for the archaeological team but the location for one for some time - perhaps a staging area for past and present teams. For a camp it was chosen well - it was on a small plateau or at least flat area surrounded by outcrops and nearby hills. The drop off, however, mostly went downward; the camp was toward the upper regions of a broad rise to which the shuttle and the camp was mostly near the peak.

The survey of the camp area showed that as one went farther out from the campsite the rockier it became. At one point there looked to be a small ‘junkyard’ of discarded or broken items from the various visitors prior to their arrival. While still small it evidently showed years of accumulated discards. Cel would see, at one point, a small green stain on the side of an outcropping noting the potential winding path of the Vulcan captain. Walking that back Cel would come to a drop off where a steep, if winding and dangerous looking cliff face was that wound down to disappear in the mists below.
- Wookiee

Cel finished his survey of the area and returned to the wounded Vulcan. “Here are some blankets.” He turned to one of his security detail.

T’Lae looked almost like a demon of old - if an attractive one - in the thickening mists and red glow of the heater. S’kath took a blanket and covered the Vulcan Captain with efficient motions. “When he is stabilized we should move him into a tent. Perhaps a cot could be improvised as a stretcher to ease the strain of carrying him,” he suggested.

“Ensign, stay with them and get a fire started to keep them warm. Treat them as best as you can.”

OCC: Who is still down here besides me?

-Cel

OCC:Bumping for gm.

With the help of the doctor the Vulcan was stabilized in his vitals. His blood pressure was low from blood loss and he was carrying a temperature. Given the seriousness of the wound the pain would be substantial if he were not unconscious. Here and there his cheek twitched as though feeling the pain or something else.
- Wookiee

Cel stood up and walked to the perimeter of the camp to where the Vulcans appeared from the mists. He stood for a moment and tried to peer into the mists.

‘Who is the hunter and who is the hunted?’ Cel asked Squared as they looked out.

‘The Vulcans are lying.’ Squared replied sharpy.

‘Yes, but about what?’ Cel knelt down to examine the ground, looking for any clues or any tracks other than humanoid.

-Cel

The ground was unfortunately rocky at this elevation and what vegetation there was grew out from the rock. Fine pebbles and the like littered the path but Cel could tell that the path had been trodden often. This was evidently a well worn and used base camp. Nothing showed up as ‘alien’ for tracks. As he looked a half dozen guppy sized mostly transparent fish like creatures became visible as though by magic, hung in place not far from his nose, then turned, fading from view. A slight tickle of a breeze or was it a fin brushed his ear.

Behind there was movement as those there emerged with a cot to bring the injured Vulcan indoors.
- Wookiee

Cel took a step back as he observed the movement of the fish like creatures. He pulled out his tricorder and set it to scan for distortions in the air current or displacements of air or water vapor. Trying to get an idea of the movement of the creatures.

-Cel

Scans were skitchy. It was like the creatures were part of the mists and made up of the same thing. There was a slight electrochemical difference, however, that was residual where they were and, for a short distance, showed their path before it seemed to dissolve into the very mists. But they did have a clue in looking for those electrochemical changes and density displacements.
Wookiee

Cel tried to adjust his tricorder for the eletrochemical and density displacements.

“NE Who, keep up a perimeter and make sure the vulcans are taken care of, I am going to check something out here. Also, start getting everyone ready to board the shuttle for departure.” Cel ordered to the nearest Ensign.

“aye sir” NE Who replied

Cel then started to follow the creature into the mists.

-Cel

The doctor tended the wounded Vulcan while the other two did what the doctor ordered, per se .. some talk about loose straps to keep the Vulcan stable while they used the cot as a stretcher to take to the shuttle, other talk about blood loss and shock and no telling when he may come around.

Meanwhile, Cel followed a skittishly inconsistent path. What fine tuning he was able to make always seemed to need further adjustments which again were inconsistent as some adjustments had him going back to a previous setting. The path followed down deeper into the mists. Now and again Cel was able to ‘see’ a shifting in the current and a flash of one or more of the small critters. While this helped him to get a better bead on them they did annoyingly disappear from his scans for a time too. The best that Cel was able to do at least in this time was to predict a second or two before they appeared again and a second or two after they disappeared - only with the latter the image faded rather like witnessing a transporter in action.
Wookiee
OOC: NOT implying transporter tech but just the visual metaphor ..

“Curious” He said quietly as he watched the flying fish like creatures disappear. He set his tricorder to continuous record and then followed the path down into the mists. He was slow though, as he listened for anything extraordinary, to include any animal sounds. He knew that something or someone down here had possibly attacked that Vulcan, but he had nothing to go on other than a hunch that it was still down here, and those fish like creatures were his only clue, if it was one.

He continued down the path, listening and keeping any eye on his tricorder.

-Cel

The unfortunate part was that the ‘fish’ did not follow prescribed paths and, after a brief period of roughly following the descending pathway that the two Vulcans had climbed, they veered off to the left. That left Cel with the choice to continue following or to give up the chase. The choice was perhaps not easy, as the ‘off trail’ had rocky outcroppings to navigate, loose stone and some of the curious fauna to negotiate. It would be not unlike, at this point, easy bouldering, but a step up from following the beaten path.
- Wookiee

Cel looked around, trying to determine if he could keep following the path that the vulcans climbed up. He wanted to get an idea of what caused the injuries to the Vulcan captain.

-Cel

Note that the Vulcans came up by the beaten path as it were. The injured Vulcan came up more from climbing from another direction.

If the camp was in the center of the compass, the shuttle landed East of the camp and the path that the two Vulcans went came from the West. The injured Vulcan came more from the North side of the camp climbing a steep-ish face. You would be traveling somewhat SW if you kept following the aerial fish.
- Wookiee

OOC: Bump ..

As much as he wanted to follow the fish out of curiosity. Cel decided to head back north and investigate where the Vulcans came from. He came back up from the path and moved to check in with the medic prior to heading off.

“Doctor, how are the Vulcans?” He asked as he approached the doctor.

-Cel

The injured Vulcan was still unconscious but with rudimentary (well, rudimentary compared to a sickbay) care and a replicated blood transfusion in progress and his wound partially regenerated, his vitals were stabilizing. “Stable now but I can’t tell you how long he’ll be out for. He will live.” The other two Vulcans looked on impassively.
- Wookiee

OCC: Sorry, can I get a recap. I’ve lost track of what I am supposed to be doing here.

Thanks,

Christopher

Hi Chris .. a recap .. the shuttle set down not far from a camp of scientists/archaeologists that was empty when they got there. It did show some signs of tampering. Not long after you arrived there two Vulcan archaeologists arrived from where they were exploring farther down in the mists. That was followed up with a third Vulcan, this one wearing Starfleet insignia and who was noticeably injured. The team helped with his injuries and are watching him to ensure he remains stable. Your initial objective was to find out what happened to the archaeologists who had not made regular contact with their operating base offworld. The secondary objective was to try to find out what happened to the crew of the Pythagoras who had seemingly abandoned ship while in orbit. Your options at the moment are ..
- take the shuttle back up to the Wolverine where the Vulcan can be better attended to
- perhaps bring the other two Vulcans up to find out more
- debrief and get new orders
