The Cajun accent was unmistakable as Remy stepped out of the skiff and dropped some raw meat in front of the gators. He pulled the large bag out of the small boat, hit a switch on his belt, and the holographic gators disappeared from the holodeck . . . .Santa Boudreaux (in classic Cajun style)
ALita was about to ask Draddok for a bit of his spirit of the season when Remy made his impressive entrance. By the time the gators disapeared she couldn’t hold back her laughter anymore.
“You never cease to amaze.” was all she could say.
- Alita
Ayla simply shook her head and laughed, though her face was etched in delight. She wasn’t sure many could understand just how sometimes astonishing Remy’s presence in her life truly was. He wasn’t at all the sort of person she used to be drawn to. He was definitely the complete opposite to Edward, her ex-husband.But that was sometimes the point. What had sufficed at some point in her life had become untenable. Through people like Lily and Remy she had found the adventure in life that had all but been traumatized out of her. Now she relished the excitement and the unknown that came with having Remy Boudreaux in her life- even if it sometimes drove her crazy. Today, it was endearing.
Remy winked and gave Alita a cock-eyed grin. “Dat is what I do, ‘Lita. I command and I amaze.”
“With gusto, too,” Sharise remarked with a wink. Would he be surprise and or delighted she was wearing the special necklace he had given her?
His smile broadened as he saw the emerald necklace around Ayla’s neck. “I was right. It does emphasize de green in you’ beautiful hazel eyes,” Remy replied.
Ayla simply beamed at him, glad he approved. After all, she had been concerned she’d never had opportunities to wear such an extravagant piece, but she had decide to hell with appropriateness and wear it when she damn well felt like it.
Ahearn looked up and grinned at the entrance. When the gators disappeared, he gave Boudreaux a round of applause. Lifting up a bottle and the glass for the Skipper, he raised it high and made a gesture asking if Boudreaux wanted some.
Ahearn, CSO
Spotting the Orion/Irishman out of the corner of his eye, Remy responded by waving Draddock over. “You really ‘ave to ask, mon ami? An’ for you’ loyal service to de Wolverine, I ‘ave somethine for you. It took some searchine, but I was finally able to track down dis gift for you.”
The CO stuck his head inside the big red back for a few minutes and rummaged around. Upon exiting he had in hand a small box wrapped with a ribbon. Handing it to CSO, he simply said, “Merry Christmas.”
When Ahearn removed the ribbon and opened the box, he would see a well-worn and ancient looking 12 oz. whiskey flask, emblazoned on the front was a family crest.

Ahearn looked ta the flask and then smiled broadly. “Aye, that ya did. Many thanks to you. And…” and he poured a hefty dose of the whiskey into the etched glass with Boudreaux’s name, “… a bit of the holiday spirit for ya, Captain. ” Trading the glass for the flask, Ahearn immediately picked up the open bottle and expertly filled the flask without spilling a drop. Capping it, he slid it into a back pocket and said loud enough for all to hear “Gonna have to keep a bit ‘o the water of life for myself, what with you degenerates congregating so.” and he laughed.

Alita walked up to Draddok and smiled.
“Well this degenerate cooked your dinner. How ‘bout some of that scary water for me?” she asked playfully.
Alita had been through quite a lot in the last year or so and was really looking forward to unwinding a bit.
- Alita
“I didn’t do any cooking, but I don’t mind if you share,” Sharise said with a grin.
As Alita approached, Remy reached into the large sack once again. Before Draddock could reply, he handed her a large, dusty, leather-bound book. Many of the pages were yellow with loose sheafs in danger of falling out onto the floor.
“Seeine as you now are aware of you’ Cajun ‘eritage, it is only right dat you learn to cook Cajun cuisine. Dis recipe book ‘as been in de family for genera-SHONS. It belonged to my Tantie Mattie an’ she asked dat I pass it along to you. Merry Christmas, ‘Lita.”
Boudreaux )CO)
Alita carefully skimmed through the book for a few seconds before looking up and grinning.
“Oh this is going to be so much fun, but I don’t know if I’ll be up to a Cajun Christmas any time soon but thank you, I love it.” she said with a smile.
- Alita
“We’ll have to attempt it together then,” Ayla said fondly. “I can’t claim to have all that much cooking experience but I can follow instructions. How hard could it be?” she joked.
Lt. Sharise, CNS
Alita opened the book at random and scanned the page.
“Perhaps you should leave cooking the alligator to me but I will definitely take your assistance.” she said with a laugh.
“Done deal,” Ayla said warmly.
As she waited for Draddok to pour her a glass, Alita walked to the long table and began carving large chunks of meat. Turning to the room at large…
Ahearn picked up her glass and poured a generous amount of the brown liquid into it. Walking over, he set it next to her on the table and said “May ya arrive in heaven half an hour before the Devil knows you’re dead, lass.”
“There are only three questions I won’t answer tonight. How much of the ingredients are real, how much are replicated, and why is there so much mistletoe? For that last one you can ask NE Smith. Now please dig in and take the envelope under the tree with your name on it.” Alita said beginning to fix a small plate herself.
She wondered if Remy would remember that he had the Christmas star from last year. There was no way she could fault him if he didn’t, he ran the whole damned ship after all.
In the envelopes under the tree was a gift certificate of sorts good for a home cooked meal. by Alita, the only requirement was eight hours notice just in case she had to source exotic ingredients. These had gone out to everyone on the ship even those who chose not to attend.
- Alita
“I guess it is a good tine we are only a crew of 70. Odderwise, I might ‘ave to find a new Security Chief an’ sta-TION you in de galley.’
“Is that a threat or a promise?” Ayla said cheekily.
After stuffing the certificate into his pocket, Remy once again reached into the back and pulled out a box with Celador’s name on it. He then looked around for the security officer and called out his name.. ‘Mr. Thienna, you are next.”
Boudreaux (CO)
It was good to see Remy so at ease with his crew and she knew that come what may he had found his place here on the small ship.
