Retrieveing a blanket, she quickly made her way over to Sharise, draping the cloth of her, and gently stroking her back for a second. There wasn’t much that could be done, until the antibiotic could be synthesized. Thus, until then, she could only treat it with general medicine.

Turning away, she retrieved an oral solution by the name of Emetrol. Once they had ceased dry heaving for a moment, she would offer them the oral tablets, which were intended to ease nausea and upset stomachs. However, she wasn’t certain how effective they might be on this bacteria.

The pain was much more tolerable but they only felt it occasionally. It helped managed the symptoms but it was still there.

“When you’re both feeling a bit better, I want to get a few blood samples. Maybe we can get a better look into what we’re working with. All right?”

Dr. Shaidi

“Do what you need to to,” Ayala said softly. “The sooner it’s dealt with, the better.” She tried to focus on Shaidi, as it would hopefully help her ignore how terrible she felt. “What do you know do far?”

Shaidi rested her hand on the bed beside Ayala’s, in case she wanted a hand to hold. “I don’t know much, right now. But I do knot that we’re dealing with a very annoying virus, who is more a nusiance than a disease. We know it is a bacterial agent that has roots to one on Voyager, which attacked the gel packs, and later the crew. Otherwise, we are trying to get as many samples as possible, to discover what is going on.” While she was talking, she got a quick sample of blood, which worked much the same as a reverse hypospray. “What I do know is: I’m not going to let any of you die.”

Ayla focused both on her breathing and what Greve was saying, which allowed her to ignore how ill she felt. “How… did Voyager… deal with it?” she asked, wanting to help, even if she did nothing more than prompt ideas.

“The infection was mostly in the gelpacks. So, they essentially heated them up, inducing what would be compared to a fever for a humanoid. The head acted much like a fever did, killing the bacterial agent. The only problem is, this is a strand which predates that agent. Meaning, the cure will be much different than the simplicity of Voyager’s.”

“So, what about a combo? Would heating work at least partially, killing the bacteria? If so, then you would need to tackle the rest with an anti-viral, right?” Ayla siad, breathing through her discomfort.

“Hmm,” Greve considered the option for a few seconds. “That might be something worthy to try. Heat is primary for killing a virus, not bacteria.. But if we can somehow trick the bacteria into accepting the antiviral as treatment, we would need the heat to destroy it completely.. Sharise, you may be onto something.” She grinned, gently clapping her shoulder. “Has the medicine kicked in at all?”

“A little,” Ayla said, though she was obviously a bit more comfortable than before. At the moment she was more glad she could be of help in her rather helpless sate. “Remind me to hold my head high next time I enter the bridge,” she she, grimacing slightly. “I know it’s not exactly anything we could do anything about, but it’s a rather embarrassing sort of illness to get so… publicly.”

The blood results from the Vulcan officer showed that the Vulcan officer was experiencing a different type of discomfort but not one that was pronounced in a human officer. It was not, located in the same part of the body, but the effects were similar. In both cases, the body failed to detect the viral bacteria combination as a threat and didn’t know how to effectively deal with it. Neither the Vulcan officer or the human officer data showed a fever had been induced.
