Remy lay on his side looking down at Alita’s peaceful face as she slept beside him. Mon Dieu, how he had missed her!!!

Gently brushing her hair away from her face, he wondered how she would take the news as to why he had given up his captaincy and resigned from Starfleet. There were a number of issues at play as to why: his father’s failing health, the truce with the Assassin’s Guild, and what he had to do to achieve that truce, his marriage and subsequent
widowhood, all in the span of a few months. It was going to take some time to explain things. . . . .

Alita instinctively moved closer to Remy and sighed. She was awake but really didn’t want to open her eyes. She had this terrible sense that they both had so much explaining to do. Finally, she opened her eyes slowly and looked at him.

“I need your word that, when this is over, before you run off, we will sit and we will talk and we will figure this whole mess out because, trust me my love, it’s a mess.”

Realizing she was awake, he leaned down and kissed Alita’s cheek. “I promise, cher. I know I ‘ave a lot of ‘splainine to do, some of it you probably will no’ like ‘earing.”

He took a deep breathe and sighed. “But’ I don’ wan’ to ever leave you again. If I have to leave, I will take you wit’ me an’ we will disappear, where no one will find us, an’ we can lie naked on a beach durine de day, an’ makine love every night. . . .”
