Alita had been in the holodeck for an hour when 0630 finally rolled around. Phaser drills were rarely just phaser drills and, with two new people on board, she was going to make certain this one lived up to that plus, it gave her something to work out her frustrations on.She had just finished tweaking the last of the programming and the landscape she had designed shimmered into view. Now, all that was left was to wait for James and Basil.
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
Ensign black walked in and seen Alita in the holo deck, and walked up to her. “Hello ma’am I brought the knives I replicateed,” James was carrying a type three phaser, and a type one in his boot. He was in his uniform, with a pair of sheath’s on him one was smaller then the other. He didn’t know what to expect, so he was ready for just about anything. Plus he wanted to show Alita what he replicated.

Baker came in shortly after Black to find both the ensign and Lt. Commander Claire waiting for him. “Hope I’m not late.” Basil said unholstering his Type 1 Phaser and looking about the unactivated holodeck. He always preferred the type one aesthetically to the type 2 so always tried to carry a type 1 whenever possible. He looked at the heavily armed Ensign Black and raised an eyebrow. He hadn’t been expecting too much combat training, just a routine phaser drill, but perhaps things were done differently on the Wolverine. Either way, he’d be open for a bit of a workout if the commander wanted.
Petty Officer Baker (Tac/Spec)
Alita was glad to see they both arrived in good time.
“Don’t worry, you’re not late. If timing was important I would have made it a point to say so since you’re new here for the moment. Now… Let’s take a look at these knives.” she said approaching Ensign Black.
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
“Yes ma’am” James unsheathing his knives one at a time, he took out the knife the small knife first. https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-5t5c5jtz3v/images/stencil/1080w/products/272/1207/ulupo85huvczuzzevwuy__86013.1684483565.png
Then he took out his main knife .https://www.kabar.com/img/1269-hero.jpg

Alita looked at both knives carefully, tested their weight and balance, and handed them back in turn.
“What a pretty little throwing knife and some would say you can’t go wrong with a classic Kabar can you? Do these knives have a story to them? A lot of the great ones do.”
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
“ the throwing knife , is the first knife my father gave me. I keep the real thing at home, in a glass case. The ka bar is a replica of my great grandfather’s, knife it saved my life in the bush. I survived three days alone, when my Jeep broke down. Carrying that knife , and a Magnesium fire starter. I keep next to the throwing knife under glass , thank you ma’am for allowing me to carry them.” James re sheathing them, presented his Type three phaser for inspection.

Alita took the phaser rifle and gave it a cursory exam.
“Thank you for sharing the story of your knives. I have a few like that myself. Maybe I’ll bring some in next time or, if you’re ever wandering the corridors late at night and you smell something cooking, just follow the scent and it’ll probably be me preparing a feast guided by insomnia.”
She handed the type three back.
“Basil, do you have anything you’d like to show off?” she asked good naturedly.
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
“Oh no,” Basil said, “I’ve just the standard issue phasers.” He said bringing them out to show, “Nothing too special.”
-Petty Officer Baker
Alita looked over his weapons and found them to be in excellent condition.
“I appreciate the fact that you don’t limit yourself to phaser type. You never know what will come in handy and when. That’s kind of the whole premise for this little exercise. AS you may notice, you are the only two people here today. This is not your standard phaser drill. If you can’t hit a target by now, you wouldn’t have gotten out of the academy and you certainly wouldn’t be here. I need to know how you will do under different conditions. Welcome to Emerald City.” ALita said.
Alita had brought up the program she had designed for occasions such as this. It was a vast city scape that, at the moment, seemed to be deserted.
“In a minute we’re going to take a walk. There are going to be several encounters throughout the city. The object is to make your way to the other side. There will be different racial types and other various interesting things to deal with. I hope you’ve brought your intellect as well as your weaponry. If you feel you need more prep time, you have ten minutes.” Alita explained.
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
Basil surveyed their new surroundings and drew his Type two phaser, placing the Type one in an easily accessible location at his side. “Is there a particular setting you’d like us to have, or is that our discretion?”
-Petty Officer Baker
James readying his phaser, went back to back with basil . And was anticipating a very interesting drill.
Ensign James black
Alita shook her head and smiled.
“No, this is all up to you. Use your phasers, your knives, your wits, your fists, whatever the situation requires. We’re going to cross this bridge but, before we do, you see the tower on the other side of the city?”
She pointed to a dark shape in the rising sun.
“That’s our objective. Let’s move out.”
Alita drew her phaser and touched the long knife at her left side and began to cross the bridge.
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
Basil raised an eyebrow and shrugged before setting his phaser to a high stun. He figured he’d treat this like any standard mission and proceed with his usual caution. He followed the Commander across the bridge. The ensign certainly seemed eager. Basil wondered how much his preparation would be used in this exercise.
Petty Officer Baker, Tac/Spec
James followed taking up their six, keeping his head on a swivel. Knowing they were in a drill, James looked on as they crossed the bridge. Carefully stepping, to not make to much noise. He set his phaser to stun , unhooked the clasp on his throwing knife.

The bridge had tall elaborately decorated railings and spanned a deep gorge with turbulent water flowing far below. At either end of the bridge the railings were held in place by tall broad stone pedestals at either end and one on each in the center. On the other side of the bridge was a wall with an ornate gate.
As Alita placed her first step on the bridge two small turrets popped up on top of the wall at either side of the gate. Alita ducked back for cover behind the railing pedestal of the bridge they had yet to cross and watched Baker and Black to see how they would react.
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
As the Lt. Commander began to cross, Basil saw two turrets begin to pop up out of the gate on either side. As Alita ducked for cover, Basil grabbed Black and did the same on the opposite side, firing at the right turret as he did so. He wasn’t sure how much damage the phaser did to the first turret with it on stun but Baker raised the intensity and poked back out to fire at the second turret.
-Basil Baker
James ducked as well, he popped up into a prone position. And fired medium beams, at the second turret then ducked once more. Then fired at the turret Basil fired at on level sixteen then ducked again. Then thanked Basil.
James black
Alita was pleased to see how her new program was working and to have such able new officers to test it on. She would let them continue before deciding if she would need to fire herself.
The stun beam Basil fired did nothing to the turret as it rapidly scanned to acquire targets. Basil and James were a bit off balance with Basil trying to grab James and pull him into cover while James was trying to drop down into a prone position causing Basil’s second shot to go wide. Being half dragged and working against Basil’s pull, Jame’s first shot also went wide and low making scorch marks along the wall. The turrets opened fire, a rapid staccato indicating classical chemical propellant slug throwers. James’ second shot also went a bit wide with the dirt kicking up in front of him as a trail of impacts rapidly closed on his position. Basil managed to drag James mostly into cover but not before James’ leg was struck by a projectile. There was a crackling sound as James’ body went rigid from a painful but non-injurious taser dart.
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
James could not move from the pain. But slowly recovered and staying down ,said to Basil let’s fire at one tower. He pulled out his type one from his boot, and fired on high a beam at the first tower.
Ensign James black
Ooc I made a error on my name
Jeremy
Seeing his first phaser hit doing next to nothing against the turret and the others going wide, Basil cursed. Looking down at James’ leg to check for injury, he asked, “How’s the leg?” When James suggested to fire at one tower, Basil gave a quick shake. “Two men, two towers. We hit them both at the highest settings, take cover, and then reassess. You take the left, I’ll take the right.” Basil took a breath and made sure his phaser was set before quoting, “Paradise on my right, Hell on my left, and the Angel of Death behind.” He made eye contact with Black and then lept up to take his shot at the right turret.
-Baker
Alita was paying close attention to what they did and what they said. She had to smile as she was behind them. Did that make her the Angel of Death? As to whether their team work, or lack thereof, would see them through Emerald City remained to be seen.
The taser effect only lasted 5 seconds but it was an uncomfortable 5 seconds. With a bit better coordination both beams found their marks vaporizing the turrets. With the destruction of the turrets, the gate slowly opened to narrow deserted streets between crowded, dirty two and three story stone walled buildings smelling of stone, fire, metal. and sweat.
Alita stood up and surveyed what they had done.
“Well the gate’s opened at least. Alright, into the breach my friends. I’m sure you’ve figured out the safeties are set quite high. Stay sharp and lets move out.”
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
Basil raised an eye brow at Alita as she moved on ahead. “when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger,” he said quoting another segment of Henry V as he stood. He tapped James on the shoulder and said, “All good lad?” before giving him a wry smile and a hand up.
-Basil
James grabbed basil’s hand “ yeah thanks , let’s move but stop on either side of the gate to recon inside. I think it would be smart , to try you go right and I’ll go left .we better try a pincer maneuver to try and ambush whoever is inside.
Ensign James black
“Sounds good sir,” Basil said holding his phaser in both hands, “Let’s be cautious with our fire, with our phasers set to so high a setting. Best not to get trigger-happy vaporizing non-hostile targets. Should there be any.” Basil said the last cocking an eye to Alita, sure the Lt. Commander had some more tricks up her sleeve for them.
-Basil Baker, Petty Officer
Alita made it across the bridge and entered the city. The industrial section looked to be a mix of buildings both old and newer and she made her way carefully along a narrow well kept street. She had her type 2 phaser at her right, a long knife at her left, and several other weapons on her person. Hopefully she wouldn’t have to remind them to look up.
- Alita, MO/COS/CIO
OCC: Catt, I sent you an e-mail regarding some ideas for my participation in this post.
-Christopher
James swept side to side , up then back following Alita . Making a continuous pass with his phaser ,unhooked his throwing knife . His phaser on stun, he kept a distance from alita in case of an ambush, he wanted weapon range clearance. in this bottleneck situation.
Ensign James black
The bottleneck widened out into a four way intersection. Noises could be heard in several different directions as if the city was just waking up. Alita stepped aside and raised an eyebrow. It was up to them to pick a direction even though James and Basil didn’t have much to go on at the moment.
From where they were standing they still seemed to be in the industrial section.
