After getting cleared from docking his shuttle, James went directly to the turbo lift . He got off at the security office walked and marveled, at his new post. He looked at all the new equipment he never held before, but studied. He walked around for a few moments, before he realized he had an appointment .So he went the chief’s office, and he rang the chime. Then he stood at attention, and he waited.

Alita had been out of her office but wasn’t surprised to find the young man standing at her door.

“Hello Mister Black, shall we step into my office and have a chat?” she said waving him in.

“Hello, yes ma’am I’m right behind you. Nice to meet you”, he extended his arm to shake.

Alita shifted the wrapped package from one had to the other and shook his hand.

“Welcome to the Wolverine.” she said walking to her desk and setting the package on her back counter. A faint warm odor was seeping through the wrapping. It had been a while since Alita felt like baking bread but today seemed as good a day as any.

“So, tell me a little bit about yourself.” she said with a smile.

“Oh please, do take a seat. I understand that Klingons enjoy standing quite a bit but I’m not that rigorous. Small pets do quite well on the Wolverine. Anything large tends to find itself claustrophobic. I think spike should do fine here though. How did you get along with so many Klingons?”

Alita smiled. It was just too adorable. She hadn’t had a pet in quite some time. Perhaps it would help her mood.

“I actually haven’t touched blood wine in years but good on you for being able to handle yours. I do know how to make a few Klingon dishes and I’m kind of the de facto ship’s cook. So tell me, what is it that made you choose Security as your MOS?”

“Really can you make proper Gagh? I think it’s the one skill, that I know that is needed most of all. Security is one of the occupation’s, that spoke to me most. I am like a jack of all trades, but to be able to keep peace is what i want to do. “

Alita made a notation to look into his records and bring up mission officer training at a later date.

“On a ship such as the Wolverine, being a jack of all trades is definitely a useful skill. Never be afraid to jump in when the situation calls for it. As for proper Gagh, I haven’t had an occasion to make it in quite some time and we don’t have the supplies on board for it. I can change that if the situation calls for it.” she said with a smile.

“ So how long have you been on board? And as far the wolverine do I carry a type 3 phaser, I’m only asking as i want to be able to be ready for anything..

Alita paused for a few seconds. It felt like she had lived several lifetimes on the Wolverine. Just this morning she had plucked a silver strand of hair from the dark ones in her hair brush.

“I’m only the second COS this ship has ever had and I honestly don’t remember how long I’ve been here. Call it a failing if you like, I’ll take that black mark with honor. As far as carrying a type three phaser, if that’s what you feel comfortable with, I have no problems with that. I prefer type twos or threes as visible sidearms but I don’t have a regulation sidearm set for my team because I feel a weapon should be instinctive. You’re also allowed to carry whatever other sidearm you feel comfortable with but, use some discretion please.”

“ Thanks ma’am I got use to the type three, as my main choice. It is more accurate I feel, twos are far to small, and they have the potential to be knocked out of the hand easily. Tell me ma’am can I replicate knives? Of course you can be there.” James smiled as he petted spike.

Alita looked at James’ hands and could understand why he came to that conclusion.

“I think whether a type 2 can be knocked out of your hands, easily or not, might depend on the size of your hands. I don’t need to be there when you replicate anything, just bring it by and let me look it over. Phaser drills are at 0630 tomorrow. Maybe bring your secondary weapons then. Our drills can get a little interesting.” she said with a smile.

” You are correct ma’am just use too type 3’s is all, I will bring my knives then. I like interesting,” James smiled.
