T’Mor was uncertain of this small cylindrical container. She wasn’t even sure she was holding it right as she brought it down to engineering.

Transporter patterns and their retrieval were things she only knew the basics of. In her Transporter Operations class at the academy, her professor had pointed out that she had ‘received the lowest grade ever given to a Vulcan’ in said class. T’Mor set it down somewhere on a empty console and stepped back so the others could also investigate. She set her tricorder to detect for any additional contents of the container and scanned it from a distance.

A close scan of the container showed three things:
1. It held a much greater energy store than might be typical of a normal memory storage unit, one that, if explosive in nature could do significant, if localized damage.
2. It did appear to have a largesse of memory storage, much more than was perhaps typical of a Starfleet memory receptacle.
3. It was also emitting a diffusion field that was making points 1 and 2 to be difficult to read - at least with an accuracy that they would like.

What they could see visibly was that on the base end there was a standard Starfleet coupling that would attach to it’s mate, often found in places where such devices might be used: the computer core, engineering, holodeck ..

T’Mor ceased her tricorder scan. She took a noticeable step backwards from the device and looked toward Petrov.

Petrov was perturbed.

“I guess this ship never learns. The last time I had to save the ship from “investigating an unknown device” order. We should jettison it off the bow.” Mike said.

He remember too well if he had not taken the right precautions the last device almost killed them all.

“As it is its a memory storage device with a high capability and most likely an explosive danger. Take it in the test chamber, put a force field around it and manipulate it from there.” Petrov ordered. However he had no intentions of doing it himself. He liked his limbs and life.

“Potentially explosive,” she confirmed with a slight nod. She spent a few moments staring at the container in silence, taking a few deliberate deep breaths.

“If that is the case,” she continued, putting away the tricorder, “We should proceed with caution, lest we damage the container’s data.”

or ourselves she thought.

With help from a few other ensign engineers, she gingerly carried the container to the test chamber and they began to set up a force field around the device.

Mikel stepped over to the wall panel to observe the incoming data from the test. Also to be a few more meters further away from the test chamber. Losing a common ensign was one thing. A valued CE of SF well he figured that was too high a cost.

Can you describe how it is in this chamber? Sitting on a table? What incoming data are you looking for? Didn’t see where you were scanning but just that it was there :)

This test chamber was in appearance very similar to the fume hoods T’Mor was familiar working with. Except on the back side of the chamber were several heavy-duty cables with a variety of connectors at each end.

“Is the the one?” T’Mor asked the other ensign, looking into the end of one of the cables. The ensign looked over,

“Yeah, yeah, I think so.”

“You… think so?” T’Mor responded.

“See if it fits. It’s not going to do anything until the chamber is activated.”

T’Mor pushed the connector onto the cylinder and closed the transparent aluminum panel. From the console connected to the chamber, they put up the force field and activated the connection.

“Transferring data now, sir.” she announced. Whatever data was coming from the cylinder, as soon as it passed through the test chamber’s security checks, was being transferred to Petrov’s screen.

The various connections and work went without a change in state on the cylinder. Even when connected it didn’t make a technological fuss.

However, when the data sought to be accessed the opposite end which had the blue rim about it flared brightly. Two things happened:

1. The hoped for data flow returned with a computer message saying =^= Data inaccessible =^=
2. The computer then said =^= Warning. Energy increase within the object. Linear power increasing. Overload possible. Internal activations detected within. =^=

Ekoagroh, who had been so far just standing, watching the proceedings, gulped and said: “That doesn’t sound good…” It wasn’t terribly loud, obviously directed towards himself.

“Is there anything we can do?” He said after a minute, looking towards the more experienced members of the group.

“Disconnect it you morons!” Screamed Mike who had left his safe position and moved closer.

OOC: BTW there are several examples of this test chamber. Twice in Next Gen where they have nanobots in the test chamber and another where they are holding an example of a foreign creature inside a chamber. I think Data was doing both investigations.
