Mikel went to his office. He did not begin working on the solution to the transporter because mainly he was waiting for the medical scan info. More so because he wanted to think on how to come out on top of this whole situation. As the ideas formed and were dismissed he came across one that might work. Eliminate one or more of the people he needed to send into the buffer and reorganize the particles correctly. Just disregard those inputs and buffer that “data” ie..”person” out. It would require less computing and resources. For every person eliminated then the less resources necessary. He could suggest they could reorganize the data in the buffer and reproduce the person or persons later but personally doubted that would be possible. However he could offer it as possible. The Captain would bite on the idea if things became worse. Which meant he had to just wait until that happened. Obviously the COS would be the natural choice to be removed.

Petrov CE

The computer answered that eliminating one person still used about the same power requirements, because decompiling three people into two people was in effect no different from decompiling three people. The computer also stated that materializing one person instead of all three would result in only using half of the deuterium fuel used to power the fusion reactors on the ship – which could be easily replaced if they found a nebulae or gas giant.

None of those options were appealing to him. He continued to look for another.

“Computer extrapolate another option. What if we found another power source external to the ship. Is is plausable to use that power source to do the same thing but not overload the systems of the transporter?” Are there compatible sources in range of the sensors?” He said outloud and waited for the response.

Petrov CE

“An alternative power source can be used to power the transporter systems without overload of the systems of the transporters. A compatible source has been located on board the ship, no alternative power sources have been located within the range of the sensors external to the ship.”

Petrov found the “alternative” power source the computer was talking about – it was the Improbability Drive.

OOC: I don’t remember how much extra power was brought on board, other than it was significant… the power requirements for using the Transwarp coil plus a Quantuum Slipstream Drive should be the same as the Warp Drive if not less. The Improbability Drive only takes say, one or two Fusion Generators. Sufficient say, I’d put it as 20.4 x 10^16 joules of energy is required (3 times what the Enterprise-D warp core is able to produce).

I don’t know if you could “drain” the energy of a star though.

OOC: I’m kinda forgetting some things so I’m going to ask.
IC:

“Computer can we return to our own time line without this drive?” He asked the maddingly always right computer.

Petrov CE

“Classified slingshot time warp requires warp core and nominal ship power as well as reinforced shielding operation to ensure maximum safety to ship’s return to last known present time,” chirped the computer, “Use of alternative drive for time jump requires same power requirements as stated before without required power requirements to shields.”

GM

“Computer is this an either or situation. If we use the drive to “cure” the effected crew of the transporter error will it preclude us from powering up the device to get us out of this time line?” He asked.

OOC: “I’m sorry but I’, a little lost to this answer, which is the crux of what I’m trying to figure out.

Petrov CE

“Negative, based on infinite improbable theory,” said the computer, “More data available from independent AI subsystem of said system.”

OOC: Sufficient to say, the Infinite Improbable Drive is a
deus ex machina with temporary and fascinating side effects. Evil grin

Basically, the drive isn’t a one-time use thing, and could solve all the problems no matter how improbable it maybe. Which, defines all how much improbable it shouldn’t be able to do thing you don’t think it can do, but does the improbable anyway.

“Well thanks for nothing.” Mikel said out loud. He decided he had basically two options at this point. Drain the ships power to use the transporter to fix the effected crew. The flip side is to use the drive and take a big chance that it wont work and who knows what will happen. However this was an improbably situation and as such should fit right in. Sighing he decided to go to the Bridge and give his options to someone.

Petrov CE

OOC: For some reason I cannot cut and paste the part from the Bridge thread that needs to be placed here. Its just not working. So read that thread for the continuation of this one. Thanks.

IC: As he stepped back into Engineering he grabbed a NE. “Seal the door. No one comes in or out. Place air system in Engineering to highest filter protocols and recirculate the air in here at the highest possible rate. Biohazard contaminate protocol, local to Engineering. “

The NE looked at him dubiously and a little scard.

“Do it!” He yelled. This had the intended effect.

“Listen up Engineering. We are on biohazard lock down. No one leaves or enters here without my express consent. ” He ordered.

He then began to find ways to lock out Engineering even from direct commands from the XO and CO, which were the only two who could override his access. The COS maybe but that was not a concern right now given her situation.

Petrov CE

Remy’s voice came over the comm, annoyance clear in his tone. =^=Petrov, you ‘ave sometine to report?=^=

=^=Two options at this point. Drain the ships power to use the transporter to fix the effected crew. The other is to use the improbability drive and take a big chance that it wont work and who knows what will happen. However this is an improbable situation and as such should fit right in. =^=

Petrov CE

Meanwhile he and the NE worked at locking out the even the CO and Xo from Engineering. He only hoped no one was infected or affected already in Engineering. He had the air circulation system already cut off from the rest of the ship and environmental controls locked out. Anyone showing signs would be tossed out the door or worse.

Paranoid Petrov

=^ Needer op-SHON is ‘igh on my list of choices, Petrov.” He left the channel open as he addressed Wells again.

“Commander, you’ opinion on usine the II drive to fix. . . .dis situa-SHON?”

Boudreaux (CO)

“Mr. Petrov’s assessment of using the drive is correct,” said Wells, “I would have to go assist with preparations if that is what you wish to do, sir. Keep in mind of the… temporary side effects, Captain. Though, I would recommend the usage of the drive after meeting our intended rendezvous.”

GM

“Is Wells infected? I can’t risk engineering being compromised. In fact I have locked out engineering against the possibility. We can do this over a com link if needed. If she is infected that is.”

He did not want to let that cat out of the bag but now was as good a time as ever. He had no idea how the Captain would take that news nor did he really care.

Patrov CE

“I have a personal force field, Mr. Petrov, which I keep active on me. That would be a no. But I can make the adjustments from the Engineering console on the Bridge… Though the AI subsystem is a bit odd to deal with,” replied Wells, “Since you directed me to not power on the said drive, it remains installed, and offline. We’d need to run the initial integration tests before we use it and turn on EDDIE, the AI subsystem.”

=Captain your orders?= Petrov said.

He was not going to be the person to make this final call as the end result could be completely unexpected.

Petrov CE

That was about all he could say. They were out of options. He expected the worse but would try and do the best he could. With Engineering locked out his fear of the odd infection getting to him had diminished. Now it was time for him to do what he did best. Engineering.
