T’Mor was not sure how she should interpret her reassignment to the Wolverine. The most logical answer was that personnel were transferred to where they were most needed. She did not find this vessel to be ideal for the type of work she had grown accustomed to. Intuition told her that she would be spending more time in the field than in the laboratory. How she may feel about this, she had to remind herself, was unimportant. One thing she did notice, that was a slight relief, is that most of her crew mates were humans, including Chief Science Officer Rhodes. Fellow Vulcans often picked up on her oddities faster, and would often avoid her as a result. While standing in front of the door to Lieutenant Rhode’s Office, she stood up straight, flattened out the wrinkles of her uniform, and used the electronic door chime to alert him to her presence.

OOC: Hello there! I’m excited to come back after a long time but I may be a bit rusty so please forgive me. The Wolverine seems like a great ship and I’m excited to join your crew. - Ava H.

OOC: Hi Ava! Welcome back to the Wolverine and I’m sure you’ll do just fine, rustiness or not. The Wolverine is a fun little ship with a crew of great writers, I’m sure you will fit right in and have fun with the stories. If you have any idea or wish for a side sim, feel free to start one up.

IC: There was only a moments wait before the door slid open. On the other side stood a tall human with black hair and a very light stubble of a beard with the most noticeable feature to most, being his pale blue eyes that could be described as intensely focused.

He was also directly on the other side of the door with one arm extended and his hand on the opposite door control. That arm, like the rest of his torso was clearly not in the Science Blue tunic of Starfleet, but the sports grey of a typical Starfleet issue gym tank top. The arm extended, his left one, was visibly tattooed from the shoulder to the elbow. All shaded in black ink, the images depicted various wild animals from Earth and seemed to be portrayed emerging from smoke or clouds. On his right arm near the shoulder sat a tattoo that seemed darker, maybe newer than the other. A shaded black circle with a wolf head filling one side, seemingly snarling at the open half.

T’Mor raised her eyebrows for a brief moment. Then quickly they dropped back to a neutral position. Her dark brown eyes focused on looking upward at the Lieutenant’s face. Though her attention was split between him and his body art. She had forgotten about the human tradition of tattooing.

Those pale blue eyes regarded T’Mor for a short moment, then the mans head tilted ever so slightly to one side before he blinked. “You must be Ensign T’Mor, yes?” He spoke at the same moment he stepped back from the door and half turned towards a chair where the Science Blue tunic was tidily folded, a gym bag open on the small desk in the small space that sufficed as an office on the Wolverine. “Come in, excuse the mess.” He hadn’t given enough time to answer from his first greeting before launching into his second sentence, and there was noticeably no mess in the room at all, aside from the gym bag on the desk and folded shirt on the chair.

Having turned his back towards T’Mor as he retrieved his shirt, the edges of what appeared to be a large flaming bird of prey tattooed on his back peeked out from where the tank top ended on his back, also in shades of black ink. “Welcome back to the Wolverine, I read that you have been part of the crew before my time here.”

“Not very much longer. Considering my absence, you may have gotten to know the ship and crew better than I was able to.” T’Mor responded. “Shortly after my transfer, I was required to return to Vulcan and attend to…personal matters.”

T’Mor caught herself trailing off. There were a lot of emotions involved at that time. She wasn’t about to let any of them come out.

As she spoke Duncan pulled the uniform tunic over his head and adjusted the fit. It only took seconds and a quick check of the cuffs and collar before it was in place and all trace of his tattoo’s had vanished as if he never had them. Turning his eyes to her as he made the final meticulous adjustments to his sleeve, he nodded in understanding. Whether it was to her statement of having to leave or the unsaid implication of how her voice trailed off, wasn’t immediately obvious.

“Where did you acquire your tattoos?” T’Mor said, finally stepping into the room. Partially because she was trying to change the subject. “They are rather skillfully done. The artist has a true talent.”

“Artists,” Duncan clarified, lifting the bag and placing on the ground behind his desk. “Each animal is done by a different artist, and I get a new one done for each significant step in my life or place I visit. Some have been done by artists with the latest tools and equipment, some by people who have only just developed Warp tech. Some others, by people who have yet to develop metallurgy, despite our rules against pre-warp cultures there are times when that doesn’t count.”

Moving to a small replicator he produced a coffee that immediately filled the room with a thick, sweet scent of roast beans. “I am doing a study in Astral Sociology focusing on the way different cultures value and use body art, comparing cultures values and traditional body art practices together to evaluate practices that are common between cultures in their representation. I intend to compare it to studies on ancient cultures and their art and pre-written images to potentially aid in deciphering messages in otherwise undecipherable locations.” Turning to look at T’Mor and taking a sip of coffee, he held out a hand indicating she could sit down. “What’s your interest? Anything you have in the research pile? Oh, coffee? The replicator can do a decent Vulcan Mocha if you’re interested.”
