SNIPIt was weird to see her own body and eyes looking back at her. Alita didn’t think she would ever get used to that and the way Cel was standing, it was all wrong for that age. She could hear Grandma Anna nagging her about posture and presentation. This only served to bring back memories that she would rather forget.
“Yeah yeah yeah, I can’t deal with it right now either. I’m sure if they need us they’ll track us down. So what is this place?” she asked.
- Alita
“This,” He said, as he brought the wood into the large room, “Is the beginning of a model train layout.” He placed the supports on the floor near the side wall. “I started working on it as soon as I could after I came on board. I used to have a completed one prior to my imprisonment. But with the release I figured I would just start a new one. New life, new layout. I am trying to do as much of it as I can by hand. More rewarding that way.”
He looked around the room and shrugged. “Trains have always fascinated me, not sure why, regardless it’s relaxing for me. Much the way cooking is for you I would imagine.” He looked at her with a smile.

Alita sat on the floor perhaps a little too hard for a body with parts she wasn’t used to. Wincing, she frowned sheepishly and tried to readjust her positioning. The thought of trains and cooking and seeing her body from the outside, at that age, was bringing together several threads of memory. She threw her hands up and wiggled her fingers.
“Oh sure, I’d love to cook a meal right now but I don’t think these are the fingers for it. This is all just too… Too bizarre.”
She clenched her jaw and squeezed her eyes shut. Was Alita about to cry? In this body? Right now?
‘Oh please no.’ she thought.
- Alita
Celador looked at her sadly. He saw himself and that just made it even more weird. Was he ever this emotional before, he couldn’t remember. Even these last few hours were strange to him. Now here he was, seeing his 12 year old self, sitting on the floor. He set the pieces of wood he was carrying on the floor and sat down next to her.
He didn’t know what to do. This was his body he was sitting next to. Not to mention his department head. He became emotionally conflicted. He wanted to hold her, tell her that everything would be alright. He also wanted to be held and told the same thing. He too felt like crying, but he didn’t want to. The emotional range was overwhelming.
He looked down at his own fingers, those of a young Alita. He tried to smile.
“I think these fingers would be better for cooking.”
-Cel
For some reason, that made her laugh.
“Oh what a mess. As a scientist, I should be fascinated by this whole situation, trying to make the most of it, and learning everything I can about it.”
She opened her eyes and looked up at Cel.
“Screw that, let Ahern do it. I just wanna live through it you know?” she paused for a few seconds, reached out, and touched Cel’s cheek, her own cheek at that age, “We will get through this, we have to you know. I mean if you’re ever gonna get your damned stuffed peppers right?”
- Alita
Celador smiled at her and gently grabbed her hand, his hand. “We will, I have faith” he said softly, looking at her. “Besides, I love me some stuffed peppers.” It was all starting to overwhelm him now, the emotions, the hormones, the gravity of the situation. He brought her hand, his hand down and looked at it, gently caressing her hand as he looked.
“I guess one could look at this situation and think, if we are stuck like this, we will have another shot at life. A second chance.” he looked back up at her, looking into his own brown eyes.

Alita knew that if she had a second chance she would prefer it to be in her own body, but that probably went without saying. Looking at their two hands, it all made sense in a twisted kind of way. She wished that it didn’t.
“Yeah, a second chance, wow. The things you could do differently right?” she said moving a little closer to Cel. It was comforting somehow and, at that moment, she wasn’t in the mood to examine why.
- Alita
Celador nodded, moving himself closer to her. “Yeah, there are many things I would do differently.” he said regretfully, moving his arms behind her back so she can lay her head on his shoulder if she wants. He leaned back on his hands and stretched out his legs. This felt right and wrong at the same time. It was a weird feeling, he didn’t know what to make of it.
-Cel
Alita shifted positions and rested her head on Cel’s shoulder but, it was her shoulder, and this was Cel’s body. Too many thoughts that just would not be allowed to fit together.
Looking up, she saw sparkling green eyes and realized that, over the years, people who had made that observation hadn’t just been being polite.
- Alita
“What do you think is going on?” he asked softly, looking at her.
-Cel
Alita kicked her feet in frustration, or pent up energy, she wasn’t certain which. All these strange sensations going on in a body that wasn’t her’s. This explained why boys were so confusing in her mind. Reaching forward, she brushed back a bit of Cel’s hair so she could see the lovely green eyes. It reminded her of what Uncle Rob used to do at that age. She remembered having a mad crush on him but, lately, had come to realize how much he actually reminded her of Remy.
“I have no idea but I guess they don’t need us.” she said a bit sadly.
- Alita
Cel closed his eyes when Alita brushed his hair back. It reminded him of what he used to do to his wife’s hair. They had only been married a few months when she was killed. Instinctively, as she was brushing his hair back, he gently grabbed her hand and kissed her palm, then gently brushed her hand against his face. He wasn’t sure why he did it, maybe it was because it was what his wife did. He was kissing his own palm. Cel wasn’t sure if he fully understood that.
“Guess not,” he said quietly
