With a heavy sigh, Sharise sat back. “Our Chief Intelligence Officer is telepathic and we were helping each other work through our issues together. We did a mind meld and he placed what you could call a block around the memories surrounding my last attack. The idea is that they are there but if I can detach from the memories themselves, then I won’t have the PTSD symptoms. And so far it seems like it’s worked. But I haven’t been put into a position to test my reaction in a similar setting.” That the other symptoms had been lessened or removed were helping her overall though, so that was a significant improvement.

“I see. I don’t think it would be wise to put you in such a situation that might test those boundaries. At least, for the physical dangers of it. Then again, if you don’t test the settings, you don’t know of the product actually works.” Greve thought about it for a second. “Hopefully, should that event ever come about, those sessions with the Chief Intelligence Officer prove to be effective in helping you through it. Although, until that comes, may you never have to face that prospect.. For now, at least.”

“Hear, hear,” Ayla said softly. “But I may not have a choice in the matter. I am intensely empathic and it’s a part of who I am. the only way to prevent my being at risk again is to cut off my abilities and I can’t and won’t do that. It would be like killing a part of myself and I’d be… more lost than ever.” She inhaled deeply. “But I am confident that even if I am partly triggered, we can manage. The fact that my PTSD isn’t a secret from the crew will help and hopefully people will recognize the symptoms quickly enough to intervene.”
