Celador walked to the holosuite, taking the turbolift down 1 level to do so. He tried to ignore all the stares at as the crew members walked by him. He felt really uncomfortable walking around, looking like a 12 year old version of Alita, with parts of himself and K’Mar thrown in for good measure. His clothes were baggy, He had boobs and other features that were not normal for him. Walking alone was really uncomfortable, add in the stares of everyone and he couldn’t help but shy away from everyone, trying not to snap. To make matters worse, Squared was just enjoying all if it.

‘This is interesting, look at the way we have to adjust our walk.’ Squared commented mentally to Cel.

=^=Deck 7=^= Celador told the computer as he entered the turbolift. A young engineering ensign continued to look oddly at Cel as he got into the turbolift. Celador kept his head down, avoiding the eyes.

‘I’m glad your are amused.’ Celador shot back

‘Did you see the way that man looked at you?’ Squared asked intrigued.

‘Yeah, I am something new and unique.’ Celador replied with anger.

A few moments later the turbolift stopped and Celador approached the Holosuite. Luckily it wasn’t in use. He quickly pulled up a program. He thought about just banging on some drums, but decided to just hide in his trainsets. He hoped that it would keep him mind focuses on trains instead of everything else. He pulled up the saved file on his train set program and after the computer loaded it. He entered into his own hidden world.

Alita hadn’t realized she’d intended to go to the holodeck untill she was literally standing outside of it. Unfortunately it seemed to be in use at the moment. ‘Who likes trains?’ she wondered.

To her mind they seemed and outdated smelly noisy manner of conveyance. Looking again she saw that it was one of Cel’s programs and decided to go in anyway. If nobody wanted her there, they should fix the current situation she seemed to be in a little faster.

Alita usually didn’t think that way and wondered if belligerence was a sign of being a teen age boy.

Stepping in, she looked around and just stood, glad to be away from prying eyes and odd stares.

Alita stepped into what looked like an 1950’s era earth train station. Except where there should be benches and other such items for passengers, the terminal was wide open. Along the opposite wall, near an open window, was the start of what looked like a table that would be against the wall. There were frames and other supports to support a very long, table that ran the entire length of the opposite wall from the window on the left hand side, down about 60 feet to the right where it met the side wall. Additional supports were along the side wall and down the wall to her right.

In the middle of the room, down from the side wall extending down about 20 feet or so were markings on the floor that indicated where it looked like additional supports would be. Viewed from above, the supports looked like a sideways M on the floor.

Not more then 10 seconds or so after Alita stepped into the room, a train whistle blew from outside the window and what looked like a black steam engine rolled by 30 or so feet outside the building. The smell of the smoke from the train gently drifted into the room. The window, was open and below the window looked like half door, which lead to the outside platform.

The wall to her left was painted an old musty yellow, but the walls where the supports were, was partially painted with blues and whites, making the wall look like it was blue sky with some marshmallow clouds. Outlines of distant mountains and streams were seen near where the table would be and moving up, it turned into blue skies. This continued along the side wall and stopped about halfway down the wall to her right. It looks like Celador hadn’t painted that part yet. The floor was a dark cherry wood, dusty with saw dust and with some paint spills here and there.

To Alita’s left, was a door and a short flight of stairs which lead to a smaller room. This room looked to be a little darker then the well lite room she was currently in.

-Cel

Alita wasn’t certain which way to go. She took a few steps out onto the open floor, wrinkled her nose, and coughed as the train went by. It wasn’t her grandmother’s kitchen but it would have to do.

The memory of Anna sparked a memory of her grandfather. Hadn’t he liked trains? She wasn’t actually certain, it was only one picture of grandpa Peter with all the kids. As she tried to remember she walked across the floor to look out the window. This seemed as good a place as any to attempt to gain control of her thoughts.

  • Alita

Looking out the window, Alita would notice two set of train tracks that run left to right. Beyond the tracks lay what looks like a small earth Mideastern town set in the 1950’s. Immediately past the tracks was an elementary school with a large playground. She could make out a dozen or so kids playing happily in the playground. A fence separated the tracks and the playground with a swing set just past the fence. Two kids swung happily on it, while a couple more played on the slide nearby. It looked to be early afternoon on a clear late spring day.

As she looked out the window, she would hear some rustling to her left. Over there would be another open window. It sounds like someone was in the adjacent room.

-Cel

Alita stepped away from the open window at the first sound of rustling. The scene outside had made her calm and relax a little bit but the unseen noise had brought her back to reality. She was in a strange body, in a strange place, and was that Cel in the next room?

Walking towards it, she called out.

“Hey Cel, is that you? If you wanna be alone, that’s okay, but I don’t really think I can deal with anybody else right now.” she admitted.

  • Alita

“Alita, sorry, Lieutenant. Yes it’s me.” he emerged from the other room, carrying a couple pieces of wood supports for what he was building in the main room. “I’m just trying to escape the crew. Do they need us?” he asked, coming to a stop near her.

-Cel

It was weird to see her own body and eyes looking back at her. Alita didn’t think she would ever get used to that and the way Cel was standing, it was all wrong for that age. She could hear Grandma Anna nagging her about posture and presentation. This only served to bring back memories that she would rather forget.

“Yeah yeah yeah, I can’t deal with it right now either. I’m sure if they need us they’ll track us down. So what is this place?” she asked.

  • Alita

“This,” He said, as he brought the wood into the large room, “Is the beginning of a model train layout.” He placed the supports on the floor near the side wall. “I started working on it as soon as I could after I came on board. I used to have a completed one prior to my imprisonment. But with the release I figured I would just start a new one. New life, new layout. I am trying to do as much of it as I can by hand. More rewarding that way.”

He looked around the room and shrugged. “Trains have always fascinated me, not sure why, regardless it’s relaxing for me. Much the way cooking is for you I would imagine.” He looked at her with a smile.

-Cel

Alita sat on the floor perhaps a little too hard for a body with parts she wasn’t used to. Wincing, she frowned sheepishly and tried to readjust her positioning. The thought of trains and cooking and seeing her body from the outside, at that age, was bringing together several threads of memory. She threw her hands up and wiggled her fingers.

“Oh sure, I’d love to cook a meal right now but I don’t think these are the fingers for it. This is all just too… Too bizarre.”

She clenched her jaw and squeezed her eyes shut. Was Alita about to cry? In this body? Right now?

‘Oh please no.’ she thought.

  • Alita

Celador looked at her sadly. He saw himself and that just made it even more weird. Was he ever this emotional before, he couldn’t remember. Even these last few hours were strange to him. Now here he was, seeing his 12 year old self, sitting on the floor. He set the pieces of wood he was carrying on the floor and sat down next to her.

He didn’t know what to do. This was his body he was sitting next to. Not to mention his department head. He became emotionally conflicted. He wanted to hold her, tell her that everything would be alright. He also wanted to be held and told the same thing. He too felt like crying, but he didn’t want to. The emotional range was overwhelming.

He looked down at his own fingers, those of a young Alita. He tried to smile.

“I think these fingers would be better for cooking.”

-Cel

For some reason, that made her laugh.

“Oh what a mess. As a scientist, I should be fascinated by this whole situation, trying to make the most of it, and learning everything I can about it.”

She opened her eyes and looked up at Cel.

“Screw that, let Ahern do it. I just wanna live through it you know?” she paused for a few seconds, reached out, and touched Cel’s cheek, her own cheek at that age, “We will get through this, we have to you know. I mean if you’re ever gonna get your damned stuffed peppers right?”
