The Wolverine had traveled a week towards their goal, and the trip had been wholly uneventful. Nothing out the norm, nothing out of place, nothing that sparked even a raised eyebrow.

And that when it all went terribly wrong.

Remy walked the passageway towards the bridge, the banks of stasis tubes along the catwalk filled the air with a slight hum. Remy nodded at Petrov, who smiled and waved. “Heya Skipper, everything looks great. The new power distribution relays are handling the surges from the cryo-fluctuation shields really well. “That’s great, Cletus. Keep up the good work.” Remy said and Petrov nodded and went back to work. As Remy approached the turbolift, the door slid open and Moreino stepped out and grinned at him. “Hey there, you sexy thing.” she said and slipped into arms and gave him a kiss. “I didn’t think you were going to wake up for a few more hours.” Remy chuckled and said “Trust me, I didn’t want to.” and he kissed her back before sliding past her and into the lift. “We still on for dinner tonight, yeah?” Moreino grinned and said “Wouldn’t miss it, husband-of-mine.” and turned to walk away. The view elicited a whistle from Remy and he yelled “Hey Angelica! I hate to see ya leave but I love to watch you go!” as the doors slid closed.

He smiled to himself as he rode the lift up through the eighteen decks between his quarters and the bridge. As the doors opened, he stepped off and moved through the bridge to his seat. As he did so, the comms activated. “Captain, we are being hailed.” Remy waved his hand to answer the call.

=/\= Unidentified vessel, please identify yourself and make your intentions known. =/\= came a voice, but no visual. =/\= This is the Federation vessel Wolverine, Captain Remy Boudreaux speaking. This planet was deemed uninhabited and we are on a colonization mission. We have personnel on the planet who have been conducting surveys and establishing our landing site. That is who we are and what we are doing. To whom am I speaking? =/\= he asked in a voice that said it expected an answer.

=/\= Oh my stars and garters! I’m so sorry. Captain, this is Cavendar McTavish, Chief Geologist. =/\= the voice said and Remy turned to the Erin and nodded to check out the name. A few seconds later, he nodded in the affirmative. =/\= Our sensor relay has gotten quite wonky recently. We knew a ship was there, but not who it was. Sorry, Captain. If you are ready to start planning the landing, we are ready to come aboard and brief you. =/\= The Captain’s mouth twitched. Something was itching at the back of his mind. Something was off, but he couldn’t put a finger on it. Taking a breath, he said =/\= Affirmative, Mr. McTavish. We’ll beam you and your team on board in an hour. See you soon. =/\= and he cut the comms. He looked at Erin, his XO. “I dunno. Something is weird, but I don’t know what.” Erin knew the Skipper’s instincts were rarely wrong, so he tapped a few commands and soon the ship was scanning the planet in depth. After forty minutes… nothing. It was as it should be. He relayed the findings and Remy nodded. “Well, okay. Must be the nerves kicking in. Too long to make a trip like this, so I guess its just arrival jitters. Ok, Commander. Let’s start looki-“

The Wolverine… and everyone aboard… exploded into billions of pieces.

GM

Remy awoke with a start and bolted upright in his bed. A look of fear and confusion on his face. He gazed around his bedroom cabin in the near darkness. Yes, he was still in his cabin. Glancing to his left, the soft form of Najma lay still, sleeping peacefully. . . . .no, not Najma, but Alita. Where the hell did that come from? His dream?

Nightmare was more like it. . . he began focusing on the dream. . . . stasis tubes? Not on the Wolverine. Petrov? Cletus?!?! And personable?? Moreino? Angelica? MARRIED?!?!?

He turned again to look at Alita, making sure it was HER sleeping beside him. He rubbed his eyes, shook his head and whispered “!c’est quoi ce bordel ?”

Climbing out of bed, Remy made his way to his cabin door. At his approach the doors slid open, and he stuck his head into the corridor. Thank God there were no stasis tubes lining the walls. Same ol’ Wolverine as far as he could see.

Stepping back inside, he sat down on the couch and and called out, =^=Bridge, dis is de Captain. What is de ETA to de Golseniax System?=^=

=/\= Five days, nineteen hours, 11 minutes, Captain. =/\= came the reply.

=^=As we approach, keep us out of sensor and communication range until I arrive on de bridge. Compris ? I don’ wan’ tines goine boom in de middle of de night.=^=

Boudreaux (CO)

=/\= Understood, sir. Bridge out. =/\=

When Remy had moved, it had woken Alita. When he had spoken French she became fully awake but lay still when he got out of bed. Now she approached with a silent cup of coffee and merely sat down next to him.

He rubbed his eyes and then ran his hands through his hair. “I’m sorry, cher. I dinno’ mean to wake you. It was a dream, but. . . but. . .it seemed so . . . real . . .too real!! Yet, tunes were off, way off. Petrov’s first name was . . Cletus? And he was likeable, personable, even, cheerful. De Wolverine was a colony ship, wit’ stasis tubes runnine de length of de corridors. An, an Moreino . . . we were . . .married?”

He looked at Alita, not sure if she was going to slap him or laugh at him.

“Trust me, cher, dat was not a part of my subconscious sneaking out. I ‘ave no idea where dat came from.” For Pete’s sake, I don’ ‘ardly know de woman.”

He shook his head in disbelief. “An’ it had a very bad ending. De report from de Montoya, dey contacted de colony, ran scans, and den boom-she was gone. De same tine ‘appened to de Wolverine in my dreams. Dat’s why I don’ want to approach de colony until we have sometine figure out. . . .”
