Alita fluffed the pillows again before walking back to the stove and checking the soup. She had no idea what to do with Cel in his present state. Combat Medic training covered a wide variety of situations and being a Mission Officer had expanded on that exponentially. There was something in her mind though that was always drawing her back to Cel and she was having a hard time understanding what and why.

Walking back over to him, she checked the pulse point at his carotid again.

Damn it, don’t die on me! she thought.

The strange thing about these thoughts were that she almost sensed them touching something much deeper than a random thought, almost like when Lana, Anna’s Betaziod caretaker would try to call her from upstairs.

Celador stirred, but did not wake up. His eyes darted under his eyelids, indicating he was dreaming or something. Occasionally he would twitch, or his limps would jerk, as if he was having a nightmare.

-Cel

Alita was incredibly uncertain as to why she had brought Cel to her quarters instead of taking him to sickbay. She had a very extensive medical suite and it just felt like the right thing to do. She had a feeling that someone, somewhere down the line, would write her up for this.

In the end, they can all screw off. she thought.

She took another full body scan and sat down to wait.

The body scan revealed nothing of interest.

Looking at Cel, Alita realized she got better information by just watching him, opening her mind, and listening.

Come on Cel, what’s going on in there? she thought.

  • Alita

Suddenly his eyes flew open and he jerked hard, falling off the bed and landing on the floor with a thump.

“Look what you have done.” Cel groaned after he face planted on the hard floor. He struggled to push himself up, failing the first time.

-Cel

Alita wasn’t certain Cel knew where he was or who he was talking to. Her training told her never to take the situation seriously or personally. Kneeling down she attempted to right him and put him back in bed.

“Tell me what I’ve done and we’ll both know.” she said gently.

  • Alita

Cel groaned as Alita helped him back into bed. He rubbed his eyes then looked at Alita. “Alita?” he asked, weariness in his voice. “That was, I hadn’t felt that…since....” he paused. “Ever” he added, a little quickly.

“They were inside my head.”

-Cel

Now they were getting somewhere. she thought, Well maybe.

“Okay. Well you’re here on the Wolverine with me now. Everything got very crazy in the transporter room and I brought you here instead of taking you to sickbay. So, tell me what’s going on with you?” she said softly.

All the while, Alita was touching Cel’s pulse points and looking into his eyes, using her senses, not relying on instruments.

“The natives I guess. They communicate telepathically. I talked to them, learned of their situation. I tried to help them, I guess I failed. So they attacked my mind. I tried to shut them out, to fight them..... The pain.....” He closed his eyes tightly, a tear rolling down his cheek.

-Cel

Alita instinctively wiped away the tear and drew her hand back quickly. Some people didn’t like to be touched. She never could quite figure out which one of those Cel was.

“I can give you something for the physical pain and, probably, the mental pain too but, I’m guessing you wouldn’t like the later. As your friend I’m sorry I sent you out there to find those natives. As a superior officer, you know it’s what you had to do and you know I’m the one that had to send you to do it.”

Alita felt like she was doing more than cleaning up the mess she helped make. She had felt responsible for Cel since the day they met and that probably wouldn’t change.

  • Alita

Cel looked at Alita, a curious expression on his face.

“Don’t apologize. It is part of our job and duty. I had talked to them, told them that I would bring their issues and problem to the Captains attention. I never got the chance and they feel abandoned and betrayed by me.” He sat up slowly and put his head in his hands. ” They lashed out, maybe even as they were dying.” He continued.

-Cel

Alita appreciated that about Cel, he seemed to be very good about separating things where as sometimes she was not.

“Right. Not that that has been established, how are you feeling otherwise?” she asked.

  • Alita

“To be honest, strange. ” He looked up at Alita. “What happened in the transporter room?” he asked, scared to know the answer.

-Cel

Alita wasn’t certain Cel was ready for that answer but they had never lied to each other as far as she knew. It was true there were a great many things they hadn’t discussed.

“You attacked several of the crew killing at least one that I’m aware of, and then you became unconscious and I witnessed two distinct personalities as if they were fighting for control, of you I think.”

Alita paused as if to say something else but decided not to.

  • Alita

Celador’s face became expressionless, almost glass. “What do you mean?” he asked quietly, a hint of fear in his voice.

-Cel

Unconsciously Alita brushed a stray lock of hair away from Cel’s face.

“Well it was you right? I mean it had to be. But it was a part of you or… Parts of you like I’ve never heard before. Almost as if you were someone else.” she explained.
