Aboard the SS Malaga Rachael Townsend was just sitting down to her desk, her hair was dishevelled and like the civilian fleet uniform they all wore it was covered in a grey ash which the Super Volcano below spewed forth. It was clear she’d just come from the field and she was tired, the dark bags around her eyes said as much but at least Starfleet were sending a ship to help them. She’d received word when she beamed back aboard and with the deadline fast approaching she was keen to speak to the Captain, along with the message Starfleet had sent was that she would need to brief the incoming help. This she found annoying, as if she wasn’t busy enough already she had to the Admirals job for him. While she waited she picked up a comb and began running it through he knotted hair.

Meanwhile on board the USS Wolverine a young Crewman quickly moved about setting out glasses, jugs of water and some light refreshments for when the command staff and department heads arrived, he hoped to be gone before any actually arrived, and was finished in record time allowing for his swift exit.

Alita had been taught that on most ships it was bad form to enter the briefing room before the Captain. Obviously they had never set foot on the Wolverine. She hadn’t actually intended to enter before Remy but, that was just the way things were working out today. Finding a spot at random, she sat down and waited for the others.
- Alita, MO/COS
Next in, shortly thereafter was Duncan. Adjusting his cuffs, the CSO paused at the door and his eyes ran over the room, striking pale blue eyes settling on the Security Chief and with a slight smile at the edges of his mouth, nodded a greeting.
“Good morning,” a clipped English accent accompanied the greeting before he stepped to his seat and sat, positioning two cups within easy reach so he could produce coffee once Lily arrived.
Lt Duncan Rhodes, CSO
“Better late than never and I beat the captain here,” Lily said sliding up behind Duncan and taking a seat next to him. Sliding one cup into her hand she then moved the second one closer. “They are both for me…right,” she smiled taking a sip from one of the cups. Lily didn’t have to guess which cup was hers. Duncan knew how she liked and luckily they drank it the same way. This meant Duncan’s coffee was never safe without an armed guard.
Lily Locksley
Remy entered the room and saw both Alita and Duncan already there. He nodded and greeted both of them. “Lt Rhodes, Lt. Claire, bonjour.”
He made his way to the head of the table. As he passed by Alita, he let his hand tenderly slide across her shoulders. “We ‘ave new orders. I will elaborate once the rest arrive.”
Boudreaux (CO)
Mikel walked in quite proud of the new thruster refit he oversaw. He did not greet anyone nor do the customary acknowledgement of the CO or XO. He just picked a seat and sat down.
Petrov CE
Fin stepped through the doors with coffee already in hand. She nodded at the officers present and then for fun, took a seat next to the CE. He was someone who tended to keep a good distance between himself and others and she wondered if her presence right next to him would have any affect.

Having established a link with the SS Malaga, the on duty NE Communcations Crewman patched it’s Captain through to the Ready room. The control panel first displayed the Federation logo, and then the face of Townsend. Smiling though clearly tired, with bags under her eyes and ash filled hair. Despite this she looked ready.
- GM Narwhal
Mikel squirmed to the other side of his chair and then realized Fin would not get the hint and move so he just chose to ignore her.

OOC: The rest of the DH’s that aren’t here yet can jump in when they can.
IC: Remy turned to the monitor and addressed the Malaga’s CO. “Capt. Townsend, I am Capt Boudreaux of de USS Wolverine,” he began, cutting back the thickness of his Cajun accent.
“De Wolverine should be arriving in de system very shortly, but Adm. Forester was very vague in ‘is briefing. He simply stated dat we are to assist wit’ de evacuation of de planet, due de erupting volcano? I can see from you’ appearance, de situa-SHON is becoming dire. Please appraise me, so dat we may assist as soon as we arrive in de system.”
Boudreaux (CO)
Alita relaxed as much as one could under the circumstances and prepared to listen to the rest of the briefing. She was confident in her security team and the rest of her shipmates. Judging by the look of Townsend’s face she could tell that help was badly needed and wondered just how many people they were expected to evacuate.
- Alita, MO/COS
Townsend nodded, “Thankyou Captain. I’m not exaggerating when I’m saying your help will be much appreciated. The evacuation process is going slowly, our initial estimate to timeline of the volcanos eruption is still on course for a weeks time however we failed to notice several conduits which have since shifted into smaller volcanoes that are causing most of the problems were having now. Between them and the seismic activity were struggling to keep up. Ash is filling the atmosphere and hindering our efforts, disrupting our scanners and making it difficult to fly our evacuation craft.” Her voice was harsh and scratchy as if she had a dry throat.
“Were trying to limit our exposure as we only have a limited amount of Eva suits and breathing apparatus which we’ve prioritised to children and the vulnerable. Most of the outer colony limits have been evacuated and consists of farmland, the hospital is now our main priority but as we evacuate the injured more turn up.”
Towsend let out a sigh, “We’re having to use the school and public house as evacuation points, we simply don’t have the crew to go house to house and rescue people. That’s where I’m hoping your people come in, I know the Admirals priority is for you to recover starfleet technology from the science outpost at the base of the Volcano which we won’t get in the way of and we’ll spare what we can but there’s families still stuck in thier own homes, scared and unable to move through the ash fall. We can’t even know which houses are occupied, we’ve heard of a small group stuck inside a wine celler in one of the farms but we can’t verify it, nor can we send our own people away from the main effort.” It was clear from her facial expressions and demeanor that she was fighting s loosing battle. “Any help will ofcourse be most appreciated Captain.”
- GM Narwhal.
Fin jumped in. “How many people are we talking about?” The maximum evacuees the ship could hold was 160 and if they used all three transporters, they could move 14 people at a time. It was possible to beam the survivors to a safer place though. They could move the population from the path of the volcanic activity to a calmer location on the planet, but if there were thousands that needed to be relocated, that was going to put a real strain on the Wolverine and also take some time.
—Fin, CIO
Remy was thinking the same thing as Fin. The Wolverine was too small to hold that many evacuees. . .
“We have already evacuated two thirds of the colony, leaving around four hundred civilians and twenty Federation scientists. I wish I could give you a more accurate figure however the administration building was among the first to be evacuated and subsequently destroyed by the seismic activity. Within the panic the colonies most up to date census was lost, the one were working on is a couple of years old and we’ve already discovered discrepancies.” She allowed the information to sink in.
Mikel scoffed. Obviously someone else needed to do the evac. They needed to get the science equip. More to his liking the load of work with be with Security and Science and not his department.
Petrov CE
“We have more than enough space for the remaining refugees however we don’t have enough boots on the ground to co-ordinate search parties and experts to dismantle the equipment. The original ship that was sent to help us suffered engineering issues and was unable to arrive on time so we’ve been working on our own and time is running out.”
That information was one less hassle to deal with, the CO thought.
Townsend appeared to be distracted as she looked somewhere to the right off screen, a muffled voice could be heard, her face went from tired to worried before turning back to the screen. “Sorry for the disruption Captain, we’ve received word that one of our own Crewman has been reported missing by its team leader. Do you think you have enough information as this is a matter I must attend to?” Townsend was clearly conflicted with her duty to inform the Starfleet crew of every minor detail but also a missing Crewman was something she took personally. “I can meet you in person when you arrive if you require anything further.”
- GM Narwhal
It was pretty clear to Mikel it was going to be chaos and they were looking for Starfleet to bail them out. For his part his team could assist Science but he was not going to take the lead. Get the equipment and get out. Whomever they could pick up and take with them well that was just extra. His engines could handle the extra payload either way.
Petrov CE
Fin listened to the conversation and realized it was going to be a different kind of mission than she’d at first thought. Simply beaming the population out of harms way wasn’t going to be enough. Why were they going to do a house to house search when their sensors could pick up life forms, lock on, and beam them to safety? Why endanger the Wolverine’s officers if they didn’t have to? She would listen a little longer before bringing up her concerns.
—Fin, CIO
“Captain Townsend, is de ash interfering with you’ transporters as well as sensors? We are Starfleet vessel and our equipment may be better to handle the interference,” Remy inquired.
He looked at the faces gathered around the table and began planning orders in his head.
Boudreaux (CO)
She nodded, “That is correct. Whenever we’ve tried using transporters from ship to surface the location can be off from a few meters to a few Kilometers. Weve setup transport pattern enhancers at the evacuation sites which for now are working but only at those sites.” Townsend tried not to feel insulted that her own ship was less inferior to that of the Wolverine. “The Federation scientists were working on a more stead fast solution but so far nothing. The same goes for sensors, the combined volcanic plum are causing electric storms and volcanic lightening.” She fidgeted in her seat.
- GM Narwhal
Having a bit of a scientific background Alita could understand that Captain Townsend might be feeling a bit put out by Remy’s questions but, they had to be asked and it was his job to do so. Hopefully all sides could maintain diplomacy because there were more important things than bruised egos at stake here.
- Alita, MO/COS
“Sounds like the CSO has the lead then.” Mikel said just to make sure no one would not try and get him to save the day again.
Petrov CE
Alita looked sharply at the CSO and then down again.
- Alita
Townsend smiled at the crew assembled in front of her, “Captain until you arrive I will be down on the planet. Upon arrival, the Magala will send you the coordinates for the two beaming down points as well as flight plans, last thing we need is a midair collision due to visibility. I must go and tend to this matter, I wish you safe travels Captain for you and your crew.” She didn’t cut the call straight away she waited.
- GM Narwhal
“Merci, Capt. Townsend. We will notify you upon our arrival. ETA (Whatever it will be at current speed-GM can edit this if he so pleases). Wolverine out,” Remy replied.
He turned to the crew and began issuing orders. . . . .
“Lt. Petrov, we can enter de atmosphere. Dat should make de sensors an’ transporters more accurate. If we ‘ave to, we’ll land an’ pickup evacuees. You and you’ people will make sure we can get airborne again when we need to, as well as modifying sensors an’ transporters as needed.”
“Dr. Locksley, divide you’ people up. some stay on board to see to any injured we pick-up. The rest of you’ team will assist in the planet’s ‘ospitals in any way you can.”
“Lt. Rhodes, take a shuttle to the Federation research station and gather up all the research and equipment you can. Again, being wit’in de atmosphere should ‘elp with transportine. Use de cargo transporters for anytine dat does no’ fit in de shuttle.”
“Cmdr. Reilly, Lt. Claire, an’ Lt. Finn, you’ job is to co-ordinate wit’ de Magala’s search & rescue teams to cover areas de ‘ave not been able to get to. We’ll use de sensors to search for any stragglers, goine door-to-door if we ‘ave to.
“Dis is what we are ‘ere to do, people. Search & Rescue. No artifacts, no subterfuge, no espionage. . . .jus’ saving people. Let’s get de job done. Any questions?”
Boudreaux (CO)
It seemed simple enough to Alita but she was waiting to be proven wrong or for somebody to balk about something.
- Alita, MO/COS
Petrov smirked. Sure entering an unstable planets atmosphere from a space bearing vehicle was easy. The Wolverine was not exactly a shuttle with the dual design for such a task. However technically they could do it within reason.
Petrov CE
“We’ll need EVA suits with beefed up particulate filters for us and any we can spare. If we end up going house to house, we’ll need dust-masks and supplemental air supplies for any survivors to use. I would also recommend that look at weather patterns and see if we can find any areas of lower ash density. Maybe set up some kind of mobile transporter station that could follow those areas and beam people up directly.”
Reilly, XO
Alita nodded in agreement with Riley. He was thinking right along her lines.
