Ayla simply shrugged and gazed at him intently. “Prove them wrong. You’re hardly the first person who has gone astray and been working to find their way. You are only limited by these constraints if you decide you are.” She leaned forward slightly. “I’m not saying it’s all in your head or that the constraints aren’t real, but there are ways to work past them. But only if you want to. It might not be easy, but you may find the effort worthwhile.”

Celador thought for a moment, then shrugged. “Maybe, time will tell. I could die tomorrow and this will all be a moot point. So, ” He smiled curiously. “Is there anything you want to talk about?”

Ayla shrugged nonchalantly. “We already are. I’m here to be a sounding board and help you make the best of a difficult situation. Regular meetings are a part of that, and I think for the time being we should keep having them until I’m satisfied you’ve made a solid adjustment to being back on duty. But there’s no list of requirements I’m checking off to make sure you’re meeting targets, at least outside normal performance reviews.”

She leaned forward slightly, her hazel eyes ever preceptive and penetrating. “But I’m fully aware that you’re aware that nothing escapes my attention. Even the seemingly small things. But whether I think something is important enough to mention, or at what point varies greatly.”

While his face remained unchanged, Sharise could sense a slight fear, although as quickly as it appeared it was gone. Sharise could also tell that Celador’s mind was racing, as he considered a response.

“Be careful LT.” He said calmy, but with hidden apprehension. “Before you start making accusations or observations in which you know nothing of. There maybe unforeseen consequences.”

“No one said anything about making accusations,” Sharise replied simply. It was here in that space between confrontation and discussion that the most could be revealed and she was most able to to get the pieces of a puzzle she might not have known she needed. “And I am always aware that in my work there is the potential for consequences I can’t prepare for. But I’m equally trained to deal with them.”

Celador shook his head.

“I am curious what consequences you are concerned about,” Ayla stated casually, though it was clearly more a question she wanted answered. Her gaze alone showed that she wasn’t going to be so easily put off.

“Consequences that I don’t want to find out about either. I have said to much as it is.” He said, hoping that she would drop it and move on to something else. While he did lie, he knew what the consequences were if the truth was told or found out, to say otherwise would give more information then he wanted her to know at this point.
