Side Sim: From Thoughts to Experiments (Open)

IC: “On it, sir.” The Trill gave a brief nod, as if acknowledging the Chief’s request to ensure the effeciency of their equipment, prior to experimentation. Heading to nearby panel, she went to run a systems check, before moving to check the calibration of the tricorders, themselves.

Ahearn watched her work and smiled. It was good to have someone excited to do actual science in the lab with him. For a moment, he forgot the circuitous route that had brought him here to the Wolverine, and instead focused on the simple joy of running an experiment. “Let me know when you get those calibrated. I have a surprise I think will help us out here. ” and he went in his office and retrieved the chroniton suppressor prototype.

Ahearn, CSO

A surprise? When you hear a scientist say that, one of two things are going to go through your head. 1. ‘Ooh! A surprise, count me in!’ Or 2. ‘We’re all gonna die.’ Quite frankly, being a scientist, herself, the former was the thiught tat train carried down the tracks, before delivering it to the reception centers of her mind. Of course, that didn’t mean she wasn’t cautious, but she certainly wasn’t afraid

“They are calibrated, sir.” A faint smile had crossed her lips, as her hands rested at the edges of the desk, supporting her body weight while she leaned against it. Such a position was casual, as she awaited what the man had in store.

Ahearn returned with a flat metallic-grey rectangle about five centimeters thick and of a comparable size to a deck of Terran playing cards. He sat it on the cube and picked up a PaDD and typed in a few commands. along one edge, small blue lights lit up in sequence and then held steady. Ahearn smiled and said “This will allow us to not only detect any change in chroniton levels in the environment around the cube, but also see if the chronitons issuing from the cube change. So we can see changes in environment and subject matter simultaneously.”

Ahearn, CSO

“Holy—.” She quickly cut herself off, considering a better phrase instead of the informality of the language she had previously desired to use in response to this surprise of his. Turning fully to him, she made her way to the device and its assumed creator, studying it for several seconds, genuine curiosity breaching the nature of her gaze. “This is incredible. Of your own design, Ahearn?” She questioned, eyes alight as she turned her attention to the Orion.

Ahearn grinned. “It is indeed. Had the Chief Engineer help with the fabrication, but the design is mine. And it works… or, at least it has so far.” he said with a chuckle.

Ahearn, CSO

“Then maybe we should give it a go and see how it works with this experiement, eh?” Voq was eager to begin the experiment, partially to see what would come of their results and to watch this newfound machine in action. Ah, how easily entertained scientists could be.

“Agreed. Put the cube in specimen holding one. We will beam from one site to another within the lab. Set up an isolation field in specimen holding areas one and seven. Decontaminate and place the cells in a vacuum state. Once that is done, scan each for background radiation and chroniton levels. Have the scans runs every five seconds and record for the next fifteen minutes, and correlate with the chroniton suppressor. Once we are absolutely certain as to the current levels, we will commence transport and see what happens!”

Ahearn, CSO

There was no response beyond the nod of her head towards him. She did not have the ability to multitask, resulting in the value placed into his orders as opposed to her acknowledgement of them. Of course, she hoped he would recognize this nature of hers, and not take it as a mode of disrespect, which she had not been intending. Stepping to the holding arrangements, she tapped in the requested procedures, setting up the isolation field, so they would be able to lower the risk of issues within that compartment. Humming to herself, in the softest of ways, she made sure they were decontaminated, ensuring the cells were cleared of everything. It took her a few minutes to get everything from the scan intervals to the decontaminations done.

“Sorry, I did not mean to be rude, sir.” Voq glanced up, once she had managed to finish everything. A sheepish nature assumed faint grin, “Completed and prepared, Lieutenant.”

“Didn’t take any offense, ensign. Don’t ya worry none about that.” he replied with a grin and a lilt in his Irish accent as he watched the readouts and made sure that everything was in order. “Focus is good thing.” After a few more adjustments, he said “Ready for transport on my end, Voq. Shall we?”

Ahearn, CSO

Auzria did not hide the grin of both amusement and gratitude that came of this. Once everything was adjusted, callibrated or otherwise prepared, Voq gave a nod to the man. “Let’s boogie.” She hummed, watching to see what would happen as she left the initiation to the man with the rank.

As the words left her lips, a truly sudden change came over Ahearn. A huge smile washed over his face and he looked at her with an unmistakable gleam in his eyes. “Oh. Oh. Yes yes yes yes yes… you took the words right outta my mouth, Voq. Boogie we will. Because the only thing better than doing experiments…” he said as he grabbed a PaDD and typed frantically into it, “… is experimenting to music.”

“Oh..?” The question escaped her lips, both one of skepticism and of excitement. She wondered what kind of music this man was interested in. After all, the present day choices were a bit bland, in her ‘humble’ opinion. Smirking, in the slightest, she waited to see what he would choose. A person’s choice in music said a lot about them, and this would be somewhat eyeopening.

Suddenly the lab was filled with the strains of old Earth music. The PaDD readout said it was called “Shake a Tail Feather” by someone called Ray Charles.

“Oh my goodness..” Auzria whispered to herself, pleasantly surprised by his choice of music. It was amusing, without doubt, to know this is what the young Orion liked. In fact, it took all of her grown effort not to laugh.

Ahearn began swaying and bouncing, the smile getting broader and broader. Even in throes of this, his big green fingers danced across various readouts and interfaces. The monitoring equipment came alive and seemed to be dancing along with the big green scientist. Biting his lower lip he spun around, his lab coat flying out behind him. As the experiment began the run up sequence to the transport, there would be about a minute where they could do nothing but watch. A big green hand reached out to Voq, seemingly asking her to get up and join the Department head in temporarily losing themselves in the moment of scientific inquiry and auditory bliss.

Bump

OOC: Oh my gosh.. A brilliant choice. LOL

IC:
A smile Auzria hardly recognized to be present, swung to her features, her eyes glittering with both amusement and appreciation for the large, green skinned scientist, whose movements matched the instrumental of the old song. Tapping her foot against the base of the metal that lined a ring around the foot of the seat, she tapped along to the beat of the convivial song, watching as Ahearn ‘shook his tail feathers.’ As a hand came into view, she was almost reluctant to take it, before muttering a faint ‘Screw it,’ grasping his hand to join him in their minute of pure carelessness. What better way was there to spend a minute like this? Wasting it, as many scientists might, was not an option.
