Petrov awoke blindfolded. He could feel that his hands and legs were tied. He could sense there was no one in the room he was in. Being an engineer, he could tell he was on a ship. And that the ship was currently at warp, likely traveling away from Risa.

“Finally awake, are ya?” said a female voice. The voice was unfamiliar to him.

GM

Mikel’s fist impulse was to kick adn fight but as he quickly realized he was tied up. He could feel he was in a ship and most likely at warp.

“Kidnapping a Starfleet Officer is 20 years minimum. I suggest you take me right back to where you attacked me. I am very sure there is cctv and a whole host of surveillance footage that has recorded this deed. I am also sure it wont end well for you. So make it easy and I will forget this happened.” He said as cool as he could.

Petrov CE

“Your threats don’t work against me, Starfleet. I think you don’t quite understand the position you are in.”

A sound of a chain could be heard, but it was light… so perhaps a necklace? Petrov could feel the necklace being hung over him. “This necklace is from Bajor… it is said it was from a sect of monks who worshipped the Pah-wraiths in secret… but non-believers who tried to touch their items were said to go crazy, as if their minds were lit on fire.”

Petrov felt nothing at first. As the moments passed, he felt immense pain, as if his entire brain was on fire. For five minutes, the pain lasted, until he felt on the verge of passing out, and he felt the necklace removed.

GM

Petrov felt pain and anger.

“Torture? That is what you do? If you want something I suggest you ask.” Petrov was scared but he was also Russian. Even the thinnest of skins of a Russian was twice as thick as the next man.

Petrov CE

Two sharp pains were felt near his forehead. As an engineer, the most logical guess was memory extraction devices or something similar along those lines.

“What is the USS Wolverine’s mission?” asked the disembodied voice.

GM

OOC: Bump

GM

“Being a reckless incompetent crew and wandering the galaxy at the hands of an insane man.” Petrov said through gritted teeth.

He knew if they were using mind extraction devices he should stick to the truth but not the truths they wanted to know.

Petrov CE

“Smart ass, I see. Let me rephrase the question. What is the current mission of the USS Wolverine as assigned by a high ranking officer from Starfleet Headquarters?” asked the voice.

GM

Petrov tried to resist. The truth is he had paid not much attention to the mission. Which this time was a good thing.

“Looking for some artifacts. I don’t know much else. I don’t pay attention to the missions unless they benefit me personally.” He said gritting and straining.

Of course this was not all. He knew about trying to get the toy opened up and bisected and the result of that. He knew about its power draining capabilities. However that was not the question. He answered that and honestly.

Petrov CE

“What do you mean by artifacts?” asked the voice. There was a hint of impatience in the voice. “You are hiding something from me. Why?”

GM

“I never liked my father but I love him. I have never met his expectations. I secretly plot the downfall of fellow crew and enjoy it. I wouldn’t befriend myself and know exactly why others don’t either. I hate pudding of any type. Artifacts are a usually simple object (such as a tool or ornament) showing workmanship or modification as distinguished from a natural object.” Petrov answered truthfully while revealing things he was hiding from many to include himself.

Petrov, being a pain in the backside even under mind seeking interrogation

“But if you are plotting the downfall of your crew, wouldn’t you want to reveal the nature of your ship’s mission which will likely be your Captain’s downfall and your Chief of Security’s downfall? I mean, after all, the fact you were captured by an enemy puts both your Chief of Security and Captain in a difficult position. And you can’t be faulted for revealing information when it is clearly you are under the alien influence of devices of unknown origin,” said the voice.

GM

GM

Mikel knew they were tricking him and he knew he was not thinking straight to consider that it made sense what he said.

“I dont know about the mission or I forgot most of it. There are some artifacts, made to look like other things. Toys and the such. They have power to drain devices. Almost any device. They cannot be destroyed easily. I think they are ancient.” Petrov said and felt a relief. It was as if the device used against him was pulling parts of his mind loose and when he surrendered it stopped or lessened.

OOC: By the way that is all I remember so that is all Petrov remembers.

Petrov CE

OOC: Okay. I don’t know where to go from here, Sid. Message me if you have any ideas.

IC:
Petrov could hear a tray placed in front of him. He felt a sharp stinging pain from the sides of his forehead, and the devices that were once attached had been removed. He heard a door open and close, then what seemed to be the familiar sound of an activation of a hologram. The hologram removed the blindfold. He could see the hologram was genderless and he couldn’t make out any distinct alien species. Petrov only managed to catch the glimpse of the hologram briefly, before it blinked out of existence.

Scanning the room, he found himself on a chair, and there was a plain bed next to it. There was a table with a tray of food, with utensils that had an odd light effect which from his engineering experience told him was potentially holographic, a cup of water, and a napkin. The walls were blank, and there was no discernable door or panel, as whatever door was there, blended in with the rest of the room – probably hidden also by a holographic effect. Petrov found the chains that were once around his hands disappearing.

Also hovering in the middle of the room was a cube, that seemed to display random images. It was possible that it was an interface terminal or just something decorative, as the images changed periodically.

GM

OOC: An escape attempt seems in order.
IC:

Mikel could see that his surroundings were most likely holographic. So he was in a room made to look like some other type of room. The question came to mind of why? Probably because if he was on a ship he could quickly tell what kind of ship and which species was involved. This was actually a good sign. They intended to not reveal this information which meant they did not, hopefully, intend to kill him. Why disguise anything at all if that was the end outcome anyway. He imagined the emitters were in the walls and good hologram tech was as good as the solid thing. Bad tech. well that could have weaknesses. He studied every inch of the room for that weakness.

Petrov CE

OOC: I need a little GM help here to see if the escape route is an option or not. Thanks

Sidney

OOC: Sorry.

IC:
From what Petrov could tell, there didn’t seem to be any weaknesses in the holographic technology. There were no access panels he could feel, at least that he could reach. Furthermore, the walls felt very real. Petrov felt as if someone was watching him, but he could not see anyone in particular. If Petrov spent the time to touch every part of the room he could – the floors, the wall portions he could reach – he would end up spending 4 hours finding nothing and only end up being hungry.

GM

Mikel tried for two hours to find a way out but could not. He settled down and waited. He was much more accustomed to using his wits anyway. Let them come back to him and without drugs or mind bending equipment he would see who would be at the advantage.

Petrov CE

A hologram appeared. The hologram was genderless, and appeared very much like a robot. In a very neutral tone voice and gender neutral voice, it spoke, “It appears you have not ate yet. Recommendation is to consume your sustenance within the hour, as sleeper protocols have been activated and will commence in 59 minutes and 20 seconds. We will not be held responsible for the lack of inaction on your part. Should you find yourself dying of hunger, it will be your own fault.”

The hologram faded out.

It wasn’t that he wanted to eat what they had offered but he really had no other choice. He cautiously consumed the food, as bad as it was.

An hour later, a gas was released in the containment room, knocking out Petrov.

As Petrov slept, towards the end of his dream, he felt extremely warm and sweaty. He woke up to find himself slightly dehydrated, and in the middle of a desert. A Starfleet water bottle filled with water was next to him, between his hand and his body. (OOC: If Petrov ate, he wouldn’t be hungry, if he didn’t, then he’d be starving with a terrible pain.)

His captors took his commbadge… but left a 22nd century communicator behind. He would find that it was still functional, but limiting.

GM

Mikel was squinting and disoriented. He was not sure he was in a holographic environment or not. He tried several of the common commands for holographic rooms and even a few only known to programmers to see if the portal opened or not. However his thirst was real and he cautiously took a small drink of water. He looked at the old communicator as he sat.

Petrov CE

No portal opened. The sky was red-beige in color. So either he was still in confinement or he was let go. In the distance, he could swear he could see an electrical sandfire storm… and if it was indeed an electrical sandfire storm, that could only mean he was on Vulcan or a holographic simulation of Vulcan.

GM

Mikel knew most of the commands he used would have triggered some type of indication this was a hologram chamber of some sort so he had to assume he was on a planet. He saw in the distance an electrical storm. He believed it might be a sandfire storm. If that was the case he was on a planet like Vulcan somewhere. Possibly it was Vulcan but he was not sure. Given the thin atmosphere and the dessert climate he was almost sure it was Vulcan. He picked up the communicator and toggled it on to see if it even worked. It appeared pre 23rd century. This was not good, It meant that it predated the ones used by the likes of the famous navigator Chekov. However if this was Vulcan there were numerous SF facilities in orbit around the planet and the frequencies would not be different.

With that in mind he tried to activate the emergency signal frequency that would be recognized by any SF officer manning a coms station anywhere. He then looked around for shelter.

Petrov CE

The communicator turned on, and the signal was broadcasted. Within seconds, the old communicator beeped at him. If he managed to figure out how to answer it, he would hear:

=/\= Nash tor Vuhlkansu pid a’fic tor wuh ri-fainu Yel-Halitra officer k’ wuh kefik glantokaya s’ wuh t’kahr sviribayek. Uf mokuhlek etek nam-tor t’ assistance? =/\=

OOC: Translation in Vulcan: “This is Vulcan High Command to the unknown Starfleet officer with an emergency signal from an ancient communicator. How can we be of assistance?”

IC:
It being such an old piece of technology, it was rather miraculous it was working and had sufficient charge… except, the universal translator was not built into this model. However, anything he said would be translated on their end.

GM

Mikel looked at the communicator as if it was an apple. He had no idea what the person on the other end said but he knew it was Vulcan. He heard the word assistance.

=^=This is Lt. Petrov of the USS Wolverine.I am requesting assistance at these coordinates. I have been kidnapped and abandoned at this location. Please respond in Earth English or Russian. I do not speak Vulcan.=^=

Petrov CE

Silence proceeded for a few minutes. =/\= This is Vulcan High Command to the unknown Starfleet officer with an emergency signal from an ancient communicator. How can we be of assistance? Do you require an emergency beam out? =/\=

GM

=^=Vulcan High Command. That is correct I need a beam out. I am the CE of the USS Wolverine. Can you please contact them and let them know my whereabouts. I am uninjured.=^=

Petrov CE

=/\= We will beam you out, but a plasma storm in the area is disrupting our communications with the rest of the Federation network at the moment, but it will pass in exactly 1.4 hours. You may contact them through the network. We will beam you over to the Starfleet facility on Vulcan. =/\=

The familiar energy of a transporter activated and Petrov found himself at the Starfleet primary facility on Vulcan.

There, he was greeted by a female Vulcan Ensign named T’Lanna.

“Welcome to Vulcan, Lieutenant Petrov. Vulcan High Command informed us of your situation. Temporary quarters have been assigned to you for the duration of your stay or until new orders come in. A shuttlecraft is being made ready in the event your Captain requests for your immediate return.”
