“Almost a year now,” she replied. “Enough to have a good handle on the crew as it changes and the sorts of things this particular ship brings to the table.” It was perhaps an understatement, but it was still true.

As they moved into the small Mess Hall, she gestured. “Grab us a table. And did you want anything?”

“A coffee double/double and a carrot cake muffin if you don’t mind.”

I think I can manage that,” she said with a smile.

Bernard found a table near a window. He loved watching out side imagining all the things that could be out in space. One professor had told him that the imagination had nothing on nature.

A minute later, she carried a small tray with his drink and muffin and a vulcan mocha for herself. Ayla took a few moments to settle into her seat and sip on the slightly bitter drink, allowing herself to savour the taste, texture and warmth.

Once the councilor took her seat he snapped himself back into reality. “Sorry about that I tend to day dream some times when I am staring out at the vastness of space.” It was at that moment that he suddenly took in just how lovely the Lt. looked.

Ayla smiled some more. “Well, you’d hardly be the only one and it’s certainly not a crime.” She gazed out the window herself for a moment. “Some days it feels like there could be more answers out there if we just look hard enough, don’t you think?”

Lt. Sharise, CNS

“More answers, and even more questions if you ask me. I may be an engineer but I love the science and history of what has brought us to being here right now. Even if some of that history is a little painful to remember.”

Bernard took a sip of his coffee and unwrapped his muffin and took the bottom off and ait it in two bites. “Sorry, I have yet to eat lunch.”
