Sharise smiled at him. “Welcome,” she said sincerely. “Now we can chat here, but I myself could use a hot drink. But in order to do that, we’d need to head to the Mess Hall. Stay here, or go there to chat. You choice,” she declared amiably.

Bernard stood up and fixed his uniform and waved the way toward the door. “Please after you. Who am I to get in the way of a lady and her beverage.”

Ayla grinned. “And lucky for us, the mess hall is on the same deck. It does make it rather convenient.”

Once they were out of the office Bernard followed the Lt. to the mess hall. “So Lt. How long have you been onboard the Wolverine?”

“Almost a year now,” she replied. “Enough to have a good handle on the crew as it changes and the sorts of things this particular ship brings to the table.” It was perhaps an understatement, but it was still true.

As they moved into the small Mess Hall, she gestured. “Grab us a table. And did you want anything?”
