“You saying that tells me you aren’t into antiquing, young man. You asked me how much my entire shop collection cost and I told you the price,” said the old lady, “Are you just browsing or are you really looking to buying something?”

Reilly arched an eyebrow at the figure and chuckled. “For that amount, they better be really good pieces.” and he continued to look around. “What pieces aren’t worth much? One man’s trash, and all that…” he asked with another smile. “Unlike my employer, I tend to find beauty in the things most often overlooked.”

“A 20th century walkman, non functional. A working Federation tricorder, circa 2261. A design schematic draft of the Freedom-class,” replied the old lady. The selection was… not unusual. A great deal of these pieces seemed like they could be available in a museum, at least from an initial glance.

“20th Century… same as the car from the Captain’s shuttle.” Reilly thought to himself. “Worth a shot.” and he turned and looked at the woman. “A… walk-man, you say? What ever is that? May I see it, please?” he asked politely.

They walked over to the display. “It’s an audio device, as you can see from the ancient headset. The thing inside the walkman is called the tape, and it has a magnetic strip containing audio data, which if the device was fully functional, might be able to play back. However, the magnetic strip of audio data might have lost all magnetic properties due to age by now, so it’s questionable if there is any data remaining.”

“By data you mean music right,” Lily asked. “Any idea what the songs were. Is there something written on the case,” she asked Reilly instantly curious.

“Music or vocal recording. Books narrated by a famous person, actor or actress was known to be also popular around that time, as well as things that people wanted to record,” replied the old lady, “Unfortunately, the label has long since worn off. The adhesive was not strong enough to last 500 years.”

Mikel remain back. His goal was to keep the woman in a bargaining mode and now the others could work her however they pleased.

Reilly peered at it intently and then said “May I examine it more closely? And yes… I am quite aware of the ‘You break it, you buy it’ rule.” he said playfully.

“I am afraid, due to the age, exposure outside its vacuum container is ill-advised unless you intend to purchase it outright. Should you wish to examine it outside of its sealed preservation containment, you may do so after you purchase it,” replied the old lady.

Alita had walked over to examine the object.

“You know, I think that will look quite striking in the media room of the summer home. I think it’s a very good buy but is it the show stopper?” she asked slyly meeting the old woman’s eyes.

Reilly grinned at Alita and said “Im looking for me, not for His Grace, at the moment.” He turned his gaze back on the device and paused for a moment. Without taking his eyes off of it, he said “Five bars. Will that secure an inspection? If I find it to be acceptable, another five. If not… you keep the first five.” and he looked at the old woman with a sense of material lust in his eyes.

Alita wasn’t certain if Riley was playing an angle or being a jerk. It didn’t really matter though. Someone in her perceived position had to behave with tact.

“Well I am here on behalf of my employer and I am looking for that show stopping piece and, my dear lady, I have far more at my disposal than what’s in this trifling little bag I showed you.” she said quietly.

“The price of the item, is 25 bars. You may inspect it at 25 bars, young man,” replied the old lady, “If you keep trying to barter with me, it will be 50 bars. You do realize that I am a Federation citizen and while currency is not needed for a woman like me, it is needed for these rare antiques I carry. Such it is the facts for the antiques market. The fact you are trying to barter with me confirms my initial theory that you are not into antiquing. Now, either buy something, or get out of my shop.”

OOC: Just a little frustrated that Alita’s question keeps getting ignored. Certainly such a skilled proprietress as this can carry on two conversations at once?

Mikel watched the exchanges with bemusement. He thought the old lady was poor at her profession and these idiots even worse. He suspected this old lady was more than she pretended to be but honestly he was not interested. He was more than happy to leave as she asked. In fact he turned toward the door to see if she would even care.
